Strengthening the heart

Here’s a new take on how to strengthen your heart and maintain health and vigor. I’m not sure it’s the meaning the author originally intended, but the direction his words point can be taken quite literally.

There is no exercise better for the heart

than reaching down and lifting people up.

~ John Holmes

In Christian Science, one learns to look for the idea behind the thing.  God’s things are God’s thoughts.

When it comes to understanding heart better, from a physical point of view, the heart is considered to be a center of life-support, an organ that controls how healthy and strong an individual feels.

I think of Eddy’s statement concerning blood:

“The pallid invalid, whom you declare to be wasting away with consumption of the blood, should be told that blood never gave life and can never take it away, — that Life is Spirit, and that there is more life and immortality in one good motive and act, than in all the blood which ever flowed through mortal veins and simulated a corporeal sense of life.” Mary Baker Eddy

The same rule applies to healing heart issues. We don’t live because we have a heart. We have a heart because we live. God is the source of all strength, health and vigor. And the actions of life are not constituted of blood flowing through veins and arteries. It’s Love being expressed and shared.

Life is Love.

The strongest heart is a consciousness and activity overflowing with God’s love in thought and deed.

  1. I appreciate your comments so much as I have fought with this issue for a long, long time, and finally seeing healing results. Yes, Mrs. Eddy assures us in one of her hymns that “Love alone is Life–and Life most sweet as heart-to-heart, speaks kindly as we meet and part” (I believe that is correct I didn’t look it up to be sure!). So loving is living, and makes the heart grow stronger! Again, thanks for these healing truths!
