I had a grand experience with my lecture in Den Haag. The favorable response proved to me again that when Christian Science is explained in simple straightforward terms, people get it. They respond with great joy and desire to learn more about it.
A large percentage of newcomers to Christian Science were in attendance.
One inquirer, who walked in the door before the event, quizzed me about my content. She was raised a Roman Catholic, but made it clear that she did not agree with many Christian beliefs. When she heard my talk was based on the Bible, she almost left, but I assured her she would hear many ideas about spirituality and healing that she could put into practice. She stayed. Afterward, she told me she agreed with everything she heard, and would read Science and Health. She was quite happy to have remained.
One woman told me of a physical healing she had from the lecture.
Another young man was so taken by the message of hope and healing he heard, that he left determined to figure out how to heal his brother of a longstanding health problem.
Another newcomer loved what she heard and wanted to know how to pray for the homeless and neighbors struggling with lack and loss in her community. It was a joy to see her selfless desire.
A married couple, students of the Bible with strong religious commitments in a local mainline church loved what they heard and left committed to reading Science and Health and putting the ideas into practice. They were full of newfound enthusiasm and joy.
I wish I could record the stories I hear in the receiving line after a lecture, for many of them are deeply moving. I, along with members of the sponsoring church, spent an hour or so answering attendee questions after the lecture. It was a very fruitful and memorable afternoon. It took me a couple of days afterward to fully absorb the significance of the event and the fruitage that occurred. It was special.
