Be sure to use your eyes

Jesus Christ was often dismayed that followers around him couldn’t see what he could see.

More than once, he remarked, “You have eyes—can’t you see?” Mark 8:18, NLT.

When faced with thousands of hungry mouths to feed, the disciples saw lack. Jesus saw plenty of food to go around.

When faced with a tax bill to pay, Peter stood empty handed. Jesus saw the money in hand.

When the widow of Nain’s son died, everyone saw a dead body. Jesus saw a live youngster able to get up and walk.

When faced with the crucifixion, almost everyone saw the end of his ministry. Jesus saw the beginning.

Jesus always saw more than those around him. Why? Because he relied upon his spiritual eyes to discern truth. He could see spiritually what material sense could never discern materially.

And we can learn to do the same.

Mary Baker Eddy gave this enlightening definition of eyes in Science and Health. She wrote,

EYES. Spiritual discernment, — not material but mental (p. 586).

True vision is not beholding material objects, or the lack thereof. True sight is discerning spiritual reality and seeing what God created in the first place.

Vision is seeing abundance, life, love, harmony, order, plenty, health, solutions and answers. Vision is metaphysical and happens in Mind. And we all have it to use.

So, if you’re not seeing supply today, use your eyes! Look into infinite Mind and you’ll find the solution to your problem.

If you’re not seeing health, use your eyes! Look into Truth and you’ll find abiding strength and wellness.

If you’re not seeing love, use your eyes! Look into infinite Love, and you’ll find abounding comfort and reasons for celebration and joy all around.

What you discern spiritually will transform the human and bring it more into line with the divine.

Enjoy using your eyes today.

  1. Evan, you have just pulled me out of the pit. Incredible. This is exactly what I needed this morning! You make me think of Elisha and his servant, blind to the chariots of fire and horses..”Fear not, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them”….
    thank you so much.

  2. Awesome, Evan!! This relates to the blog last week about Never Say Can’t! What you perceive is what you see! A blessed day to all!

  3. Thank you so much Evan. Your loving, inspiring thoughts are a wonderful feast each day. Spiritual discernment will guide the day.

  4. Evan, this was a wonderful “wake-up” message to read this morning. Thank you! You have given me much to ponder and to put into practice.

  5. Dear Evan,
This blog is a great follow-up and elucidation on part of your super Webinar last night. Many thanks for both and for these inspiring, elevating, “eye-opener” blogs.

  6. “What you discern spiritually will transform the human and bring it more into line with the divine.”

    Wonderful!

  7. Thank you Evan for one more of your inspiring thoughts! More work to do….smiles… Have a blessed day seeing all that the “Great I am” according to Eddy, is seeing!

  8. What you see materially will be present. But what you see spiritually will be the truth of being.
It takes practice, desire and receptivity, but the wonderful thing is that it’s within grasp.

  9. Boy, does God love you, Evan! He gives you the most remarkable ideas for your blog that help so many. Thanks for listening to Him on our behalf.

  10. Wow, what was sort of a vague concept (spiritual perception) is now crystal clear. I love your insight, a real foglifter, thank you so much Evan

  11. Thanks Evan! This reminded me of a concept that was very difficult for me to learn in regard to Christian Science treatment. Often times in the past I would work to heal some issue, and continue studying and praying until I felt I had reached “spiritual discernment” about the issue, but then I would give in to the temptation to “check matter to see if it was healed”. Giving in to that temptation of looking to matter for verification of healing would bring me back down into the pit of still believing the issue was real, thus preventing healing from occurring.

Only recently I’ve learned that sometimes 1) reaching spiritual discernment about some issue, and 2) a change occurring humanly, don’t always happen in sync. Sometimes we can reach spiritual discernment and the human condition won’t change until some time later. But if we can rejoice and continue knowing without a doubt that what we have discerned spiritually is true, the change in our human condition will also be experienced. It’s inevitable.

Mrs. Eddy describes this in Science and Health on page 169, starting at line 3. Below is a part of this paragraph:

…I have seen the mental signs, assuring me the danger was over, before the patient felt the change, and I have said to the patient, “You are healed,” – sometimes to his discomfiture, when he was incredulous. But it always came about as I had foretold.

So as healers, let’s all take to heart what Evan has written in this blog and not be tempted to think we need to check matter or some other human situation for verification of our spiritual discernment. Instead, just rejoice, rejoice!, in what you are discerning about God and His idea. True spiritual discernment takes place in thought, so there is no reason to look any other place for verification of truth discerned.

  12. This topic certainly has evoked much response. I ‘ve already read it several times. Since I have had eye issues I loved all of your shared thoughts. What does God see? I try to claim all of the God like qualities about my eyes. I do this daily. Claiming the good things about my eyes and vision keeps me focused on what God is seeing. Thanks for all the good you shared.

  13. WOW!!! There is so much to see Evan.
I wish and pray that I can learn to see as you do.
I add my thanks and a big God Bless!
