Humility chosen, or humiliation inflicted ?
The choice is ours at every moment.

This reminds me of what Jesus said:
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:29)
Then I recalled the Bible story of a woman who was
taken in adultery and the people said that the law
of Moses instructed that she should be stoned. They asked him what he thought about it.
But Jesus didn’t respond, but acted as though
he hadn’t heard them, and wrote on the ground.
But they continued to ask him. He knew they were
trying to trap him.
It seems to me that he wasn’t going to be
drawn into giving a hasty reply and perhaps
just quoting a passage in the Bible of what God
said. He knew he was one with God, and always
listened for what God was telling him. The writing
on the ground was just giving him time to listen
for God’s instructions as I see it.
And the answer he was given by God was brilliant – it not only saved the woman, but also spoke to the men, and turned the condemnation back on themselves.
Mrs. Eddy tells us that evil can only destroy itself.
Jesus stayed humble and meek and no-one was
condemned – even the woman was vindicated and
had her thought put right.
By staying humble and meek, as Christ Jesus,
and staying connected to our Father-Mother God,
who we are assured is ever-present, we cannot
be tempted to voice human opinions, or try to
take personal control of anything. Letting Christ
forever light our way of thinking and acting, we
live in harmony and safety.
Love for God and our fellow man must be
at the helm of our thought always .

It kind of rolls into a thought I had the other day about how and how quickly one should react to a sudden humanly complicated experience. Bearing in mind that Mrs Eddy was quite plain in her teachings that wrong thoughts must be dismissed as quickly as possible..! It came to me that just imagining how Jesus would react in any human circumstance would be a good beginning❣️
Now there’s an eye-opener! Responding hastily comes from pride! Oops!
Thanks dearly for the rebuke, and the peace that comes from patient, humble, listening. And thanks Evan, for the reminder. It’s the season of celebrating the appearing of the Prince of Peace, born in a stable. You can’t get more humble than that,
Reacting quickly could be a symptom of fear or freezing, immobilizing or being overwhelmed and unable to think and communicate or act quickly, clearly, and rightly, could also be a symptom of fear. So the solution is stay, focused on God‘s infinite goodness and love for each and everyone of us, with gratitude for and trust in God’s protection, direction, and provision. Knowing that God is in control, blessing all.
Thank you Edie for your comments. I’ve struggled with these reactions and I appreciate your reminder to keep in consciousness who is really in control. And, I don’t have be in control of anything my thoughts.
I need this. I really need to follow Maggie’s direction and not fear that I might get tongue tied when trying to pray openly with non scientist friend.

I saw a vignette of Jesus writing, embodying peace, being still, knowing, reflecting God.
I read a MBE line the other day, and it echoes through my thoughts, “error rehearses error” and now armed with your lovely lesson and examples, I can utilize the Jesus example as things arise. I do not have to rush in as a fool, rehearsing error – yet again, eh? – rather I can picture Jesus writing in the dirt, awaiting divine inspiration.

Yes, the writing on the ground was just giving Jesus time to listen to God.
As I read this passage from the Bible Lesson this week, I saw so clearly Mary’s pure humility as she recognized in that moment who she was. Not a “look at me” proclamation but, a truly humble acceptance of look at this awesome thing that God is doing through me.
And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.
(Luke 1:38)
Humility finds us with a brand new day and a clean slate of which
to fill in the way we wish. A blank canvas that erases all days that
have gone before it and has us start anew. If we have a humbleness
like with the Christmas birth of sweetness, gentleness, loving-kindness,
with all of the peacefulness as on that beautiful “time” when Jesus was
come to the world in the Christ Spirit, we are empowered with the
same Love that helped heal the world.

Lovely Evan. Thank you and thanks for all the comments. This past week I had the opportunity to wait and pray for how to respond to a nasty accusation via letter by a neighbor. I wasn’t necessarily offended because she has done this to others on our street so i know it’s not personal. Most neighbors want nothing to do with her. But still it was disturbing. I ran through various practice conversations i might have with her should we meet. What i really needed was to see beyond the decoy to what was true about her as the loved daughter of God. I prayed to love and forgive her. It came to me to give me a little Christmas cactus and a short note wishing her a peaceful holiday (and not referring to her note at all, not reacting or giving it any substance) which i left at her front door. She texted me expressing her appreciation with heart emojis. Love is always the answer.

What a beautiful and inspiring example of choosing not to be offended; and instead, seeing through the illusion that we could be anything other than God’s loved children. Thank you for sharing this L! xo
