The different ideas of divine Mind

February 11, 2011 | 8 comments

When I lectured in Canada two weeks ago, one Tuesday morning, I was scheduled to ride a seaplane from Victoria Harbor to Vancouver Bay. Problem was, when I arrived at the depot, the planes, including mine, were cancelled because of fog in Vancouver. The planes couldn’t land in the dense mist. I was to speak at 1 p.m. in New Westminster. I needed to be there! What to do?

After listening for God’s guidance, I called a very helpful local church member and we came up with Plan B for me to take a ferry. I would arrive late, but in enough time to still pull off the event. But honestly, I didn’t want to be late, so I continued to pray for a better solution with the planes.

I thought through what Christian Science had taught me about the universe we live in, that it’s not a place of physical locations, material conditions and circumstances governed by chance. We live in a universe of Mind where every condition, circumstance, and situation is an idea, a spiritual idea.

I thought about the idea behind a plane landing safely in Vancouver Harbor. This idea would include the qualities of a safe landing, I reasoned, which meant a clear run-way on the water free of fog interference.

I also accepted that the idea of fog, whatever that was in the Mind of God, certainly had a role to play in the universal scheme of things. Fog was not bad or evil. It was just another aspect of divine Mind’s universe. It occupied a worthy place in Mind, just as the idea of a fog-free place to land a seaplane occupied a place in Mind also.

I divorced my trip from time and material space. I went up into Mind and realized that the idea of fog and the idea of no fog didn’t compete with each other. One does not exclude the other. In Mind, there is no limitation of space or sense of competition. It’s never win-lose. It’s always win-win.

And then it occurred to me that even though the weather watchers said that Vancouver Bay was fogged in, I knew the idea of Vancouver free-of-fog existed also, at the same time. What the weathermen were saying, “Vancouver Bay is fogged in, therefore seaplanes can’t fly,” was not the full truth. In divine Mind, Vancouver Bay free of fog existed also, right then and there! It was just as present as the other idea of Vancouver with fog. There are no limits in Mind.

Wow! Just the view I needed. Fear left me. Peace took over.

It wasn’t many minutes later that the airplane agent announced they were checking us in. Our flight had been cleared. I was on board 20 minutes later happily on my way, expressing gratitude the whole time.

Vancouver Harbor was clear where we landed, although fog was around in other areas, and I arrived by car at my lecture venue by 12:10, in plenty of time to prepare for my 1:00 lecture. It was a very successful trip.

There’s always a way in Mind!

  1. Hi Evan! Wonderful Lift-Off for your readers!
I love it when you drive (fly!) us through the metaphysics…exchanging things for thoughts (spiritual ideas) and applying these ideas specifically to the
need of the moment. Divine Mind at work, as always.

Sure help clear my morning “fog!”

You are very loved, Evan. (As are we all.)

    :<))

  2. Thank you for the idea that the Bay exists as idea BOTH as foggy and fog-free at the same time – because both “conditions” are right ideas. I’d never thought of it that way. So then, because ideas of Mind are always good and harmonious, when we see a picture of discord, disease or conflict, we know that NEVER existed anywhere – certainly not in God, Mind, which is the Only – and that understanding is what reveals the correct idea right at hand, which we “see” as healing. This is helpful – thank you again!

  3. Love inspires, designates and leads the way, says MBE in her book Science and Health. Well this was your purpose – to glorify Mind and Love – right there and here – where we are and your detailed description of your prayer is awesome! Thank you so much.

  4. Powerful realization. Thanks Evan . . . simultaneously, the Egyptian people, as well as those in power, have seen ‘above the fog’ of old beliefs and power structures, and in humility, are moving toward a democratic state, peacefully.

  5. Thank you so much for this wonderful post! I love it and your way of seeing things spiritually! So helpful! Thanks
