The Mind that thinks for itself

November 10, 2021 | 20 comments

Are there people telling you what to do, how to think, how to vote, and what to support? If so, it might be time to remember that you have a God given ability to think for yourself!

In this video, I share ideas on how to use this faculty more readily, and not let other people do your thinking for you.

This vlog was filmed in the Painted Desert, which is part of the Petrified Forest National Park, in Arizona. My wife and I passed through in May 2021.

  1. When you think about the beauty of the painted Desert or the Rocky Mountains they do not conflict with one another yet they are very different forms of God’s expression of Himself.
One Mind creates and governs man and the universe and we do not need to conflict with one another.
Each is its own expression of goodness and beauty. Each of us can think for ourselves and not conflict with another.
Evan thanks for open the door of this fresh idea.

  2. Great message as always ! and great
landscape too, thank you Evan, this very helpful.

I heard about the story of a man dreaming he is being chased by a big bear, the man took refuge in a phone booth and had choices, anyone can help finding ths story please ? is it from an article or a lecture or elsewhere ???? any info will be helpful and appreciated !

    1. Thanks! I needed that, Martine!
Being still and list the “voice within” can be a little hard when you see things differently than do others. “I will listen for Thy voice, lest my footsteps stray, I will follow and rejoice all the rugged way.” Hymn 304 by our beloved Mary Baker Eddy.
I have forwarded this article to my dear sister who has a healing in progress. It’s got to help.
I will be quiet! I’ll let go and let God!
      Lovingkindness,
      David

  3. I am the place where God shines
throughfor He and I are one not two

    He wants me where
    and as I am
    I need not fret
    nor will
    nor plan

    If I’ll just be
    relaxed and free
    He’ll carry out
    His plan through me
    Brad Weston

Some days we could ask ourselves,
Am I the place where God is
shinning through this minute, if not,
why. What is trying to stop me from
    being His shine.

  4. Really need to dwell on this guidance Evan , so thank you . Other people’s opinions ( although kindly meant ) are a constant for me to see through…especially when working toward a healing. I love the thought ‘ Divine Mind thinks for itself! ‘ and of course it is the ONLY Mind in operation. This is very timely for me as I study to find my oneness with God. We don’t need to think we must search for the good in people… that good is right here, right now and for everyone . Truth and Love surrounds us❣️

  5. Really like this reminder. There are no mistakes in God’s guidance. All is harmonious. God Bless everyone.

    1. Susan I like this, “there are no mistakes in God’s guidance.” I remember reading something in the well-known article “God’s Law of Adjustment” by Adam Dickey that we should always follow what is our highest sense of right at any time. He also says that anything that seems to be a mistake, God will turn us out of it quickly into the right direction, and that “no condition or circumstance can arise whereby a mistake can find lodgment in God’s plan.”

  6. Today’s message and every single comment hit the mark for me and moved me to tears of gratitude, joy and relief. Thank you

  7. Oh how I need this! I do love the definition of God as the ALL-Knowing, All-acting… all- expressing. The oppressive imposition of so many conflicting Opinions (about too many subjects) has been a mounting issue creating division. I do not want to contribute to this, and really love the article which Martine has included : “my opinion? I’ll pass”! Wow! That is a line I can hang on to! As well as “I listen carefully” to what God may be whispering or shouting!
Thank you Evan for starting us out with declaring so firmly that, indeed, Mind Thinks For Itself! How else could the One Mind be?!

  8. Rose,- thank you for posting the article “God’s Law of Adjustment” by Adam Dickey. It was my initial introduction to Christian Science and impelled me to study it’s teachings. It’s been awhile since I’ve read it in it’s entirety. The ideas in this article, especially the idea that no mistake can find lodgment in God’s plan, are very helpful in supporting my thought in a current situation. Grateful for all your inspired comments and loving responsiveness. .

    1. Thanks for your kind words Linda. The article is a favorite of mine too. I used to call it “pulling out the big guns,” because it is so powerful and covers all ground. It’s great to hear that it was what originally got you interested in studying Christian Science, I can see why. Sending lots of love your way!

  9. This is so helpful, Evan. In these times where it seems everyone is trying
to persuade others to do as they have done or are doing, these gentle
reminders to think for ourself, through Mind’s direction, is so pertinent and
powerful. We do not have to be swayed into doing what others think we
should do and to stand for our own principals is so important and helpful
    towards the world’s healing.
(Btw, C, I’m sorry I ‘borrowed’ your ‘name’ a few articles back)

  10. I just found the answer to Martine’s question toward the top of the comments about the man dreaming he was being chased by a bear into a phone booth. I was on the site cslectures.org and reading a lecture by Jack Hubbell titled The Science of Christian Healing and Lo! There it was! It’s a fabulous site, with so many lectures. Interesting that I should have read that particular lecture this morning. It’s that One Mind again.

    1. Thank so much Sue !!!!! I am so happy, this is to help a dear friend and I am sure she will be more than happy too !

  11. Thank you so much Evan, for your topic choice accompanied by a beautiful video. Nature is such an inspiring display of God’s beauty!
Thank you Martine for the link to such a deeply meaningful article – so helpful.
Thanks to all the SV commenters – such wonderful morsels, bites and chunks of guidance. I appreciate them and you all.
Thank you Rose for the link to “Gods Law of Adjustment”. Adam Dickey’s message had become part of my daily “bread and butter” some time ago. I listen to the CD in the car, before going to sleep and whenever I feel the need during the day. Such comfort!

  12. Wow thanks dear Evan, that is so good!
As God thinks for itself, so we as reflection of God can think of ourselves as well, however by listening to God, divine Love for perfect guidance!
I love your Vlog, Evan, it’s very comforting and healing♡

    1. “Painted desert” is very suitable! It’s the beautiful painting of God, He/She is the loveliest painter ever! ♡♡
