The road less traveled

October 26, 2011 | 5 comments

Two roads diverged in a wood and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
~Robert Frost
I expect any student of Christian Science can easily relate to Frost’s sentiment.
When it comes to faith and spirituality, Christian Science is the road “less traveled” in so many ways, but so rewarding to those who pursue its course.
It’s not the popular choice, the well-worn path, but hey, Jesus Christ’s choices were not popular selections either.
The general tendency of mass opinion is to pursue the siren calls of materialism and sensuality and shun the greater demands of selfless love.  But pure spirituality has the final say, and always offers the best end game.
Don’t be afraid to walk the road less traveled.  You’re in good company.

  1. Thanks for quoting from Robert Frost’s poem. I grew up in New England and were exposed to most New England poets during my educational years. There is something very special about New England poets.

  2. Thanks for the great reminder of the road less traveled. I do sometimes feel like a salmon swimming upstream against much of mankind going in another direction! But time and time again, I have seen the fruits of taking a stand for the spiritual perspective of life. The ways of the world are not so benevolent! So, I choose the road less traveled!

  3. Thank you for this post. I am new back into Christian Science but I can’t get enough of it. This poem comes to me often as wind my way down the less traveled path and am tempted along the way to just “join the crowd”. Its getting so I just couldn’t do that anymore anyway. There is too much good on the less traveled path – it may be difficult at times, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  4. I am right there with the previous commenter. This is one of my favorite poems, yet I never thoughtnofmit in terms of living CS. Thanks for the new perspective! I particularly like what you said about being in good company. So true!
