The stock market plunge does not affect your wealth

March 23, 2020 | 27 comments

With stock markets plunging around the world with dizzying speeds to desperate lows, it’s a time to have a clear understanding of what constitutes true wealth.

If you had been tempted over the years to believe that your wealth is tied up in the stock market, you might be tempted to believe that you are poorer today than you were a month ago. But this is not true! Real wealth is not monetary. Its spiritual.

Wealth is not stock values that rise and fall. Wealth is wisdom, intelligence, discipline, fearlessness, courage, creativity, patience, composure, calm, trust, faith and expectancy of good.

Wealth doesn’t come from the stock market. It comes from God, the source of all good things that make life worth living in the first place.

Jesus Christ understood real wealth better than anyone. He did not have a huge portfolio in the stock market to sustain him monetarily. However, he never lacked money. He fed thousands of hungry people in a few minutes. He showed Peter how to find his tax money without delay. He always had food to eat when he needed it. Jesus never lacked. Why? He understood all supply to originate with divine Mind in the form of spiritual inspiration. The inspiration he received from God, in turn, translated into human needs met in whatever the appropriate form was for the moment he was in.

The same rule applies to you.

If faced with a devastated stock portfolio, have no fear of it. The substance of your wealth was never in that portfolio. It’s in Mind, and it’s still at hand to inspire, lead and guide you to demonstrate human needs met.

Wealth is spiritual. It is never lost, diminished, used up, evaporated or sunk. What you have from God, remains yours forever. It will never disappear.

So, don’t get mesmerized by diminished stock values. Look past the monetary picture to the spiritual reality and find your wealth intact, here and now as always. Put it to good use, and your bills will get paid.

  1. Thank you Evan for pulling my thought back to the right place as just today I checked my super and it has gone down a little but I am back on track now THANK YOU AGAIN!

Another thought I am reminded of from many years of struggling off and on financially…we are NEVER out of work or without a job! We work for God.
We have an everyday job to know that all is well in God’s kingdom, that every child of God has exactly what is needed in any given moment. That this is an opportunity to give more time to our spiritual education and awareness. ANd add to our store of understanding.

    1. Great reminder!!
      We work for God!
That’s Eternal Employment: the humble servant of the restful Mind.
I’ve always considered the verb “to wait” as not a passive, but an Active verb- as the perfect servant is Always alert, on one’s toes, responding instantly to God’s instructions .

  2. Thank you Evan for illuminating the financial aspect! Meanwhile most people are much more concerned about the economical aspect than the virus itself, which seems to force humanity out of their workplace into a seeming vacuum on their sofa. I live in an area where people are completely dependant on tourism. This morning it came to me that if we embrace our body in thought, we also embrace our world and have dominion. There are no outside unfortunate circumstances if we are alone with allmighty God…

    1. Micha please know as we pray here in the US, Italy and her citizens are embraced in those prayers.

  3. Thank you Evan for a beautifully expressed statement of supply. Infinite supply can never plunge, it is always there and abundant. Jesus said to an invalid “Stretch forth thine hand” and “and it was restored whole”, – when we reach out to God our wholeness, in every way, is revealed, not the next day, but immediately. We can grasp now all the good that we need.
“Unfathomable Mind is expressed. The depth, breadth, Love and man coexistent
height, might, majesty, and glory of infinite Love fill all
    space. That is enough!” S&H 520 3-5

  4. Thank you all for the lovely thoughts regarding supply and correlated ways you are anx have demonstrated spiritual wealth.

  5. I always think of us all as spiritual millionaires, particularly when the stock market plunges.
Supply is nothing to do with matter, and matter has nothing to do with supply. Think of all the stories in the Bible where the material picture was one of lack. The woman with the pot of oil, which Elisha proved to her that as she has only a little, that supply came from an infinite source and was more than adequate to meet her and her son’s needs.. Also the feeding of the five thousand – all from a few loaves and a fish – the divine source when acknowledged by Jesus revealed it. And Elijah was fed by a raven when the famine was in the land – which to the material senses would seem very unlikely, but he trusted that God was governing and would take care of his needs. There are so many examples of God’s loving continual supply to meet all our needs in the Bible, and also in the testimonies in our churches and periodicals. Let us accept abundance from the one divine source – He will never let us down. Christian Science assures us that we can prove it.

  6. Love this Evan, “Wealth is wisdom, intelligence, discipline, fearlessness, courage, creativity, patience, composure, calm, trust, faith and expectancy of good.” The stock market will go back up. The economy will recover.
Where I live I have enjoyed seeing people work together. The local food bank assuring everyone no one will go hungry. With schools out, the school buses delivering breakfast and lunches to the kids at the bus stops to make sure no kids go hungry if their parents can’t be at home to cook for them. There are so many opportunities to help allay the fear – grocery shopping for others who may feel they are at risk. I love to see how the grocery stores are delivering groceries and restaurants are delivering orders. How businesses are using Zoom and other video conferencing to have virtual meetings. When thought is calm, there are so many opportunities for employment (which is really ways to help our neighbors). Being watchful and praying, we will find ways to allay the fear and help others. We do not need to be fearful.

  7. I also wanted to say that even when the news presents the worst of humanity, that is not the true picture at all. When presented with “hoarders” I like to think of all the food and supplies that are eventually going to be donated to the food banks when this passes. 🙂

  8. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. (James 1:17)

  9. Thanks for all these rich thoughts, everyone. God always finds a way to supply our needs, even our wishes, in ways we understand, whatever stage of our thinking. I have proved this so often.

  10. Thank you for the wonderful spiritual truths! I’m a relatively new subscriber to this blog. I’ve been thinking lately if Moses were here today, he would not just be sheltering in place. He would be handling the serpent of fear about supply and dreaded disease. Jesus would not go to the grocery store wearing gloves and a mask. He would be beholding the harvest of spiritual truths before him right now, right here. Paul would not be spreading thoughts of fear and destruction in his letters but love, compassion and Truth. They all would be in deep prayer with their Heavenly Father -Mother God, above all else.

  11. Thank you all! The true definition of wealth is so very healing. I also loved the comment about the raven feeding Elijah. How beautiful and comforting to know that all Great Love’s creation “work together for good” to bless one another. I believe we will come through this challenge with much more compassion for ALL of our Father-Mother’s creation including Her amazing species.

  12. Good, good, GOOD ideas and truths from our SpiritViewFamily. Thank you all :<)

We DO have WORK: The work of not believing in …"the elephant in the living room."
Sure, this time it appears quite…large, but Truth is, as we sure do know: LARGER!! (Infinitely so!)
Our Work is to NOT "stand aghast at nothingness," as Mary Baker Eddy tells us in Science and Health. This is, after all, one big fat HYPNOTISM, of which we know better than to be taken in by.
And our Work is and will be rewarded in all needed ways.

So grateful for this Family! (And forever thank you, Evan.)

    Sue

  13. Evan, another”hit the nail on the head” Spiritview.
My stock market plunge seems large but it hasn’t affected my true-being. The true qualities of “composure, calm, faith, expectancy of good.” God always answers before we call…I just have to listen. Gratitude, gratitude, gratitude!!!

  14. My father, who had employment during the Depression used to say “They can’t take away what you know!”
You all have expressed “what we know” in Christian Science and it is abundance.

  15. Thanks so much for this important message!! I appreciate you good thoughts and words always, but even more so when times seem challenging in so many ways. Thanks again !

  16. And from this week’s Christian Science Bible Lesson: Matthew 6:31–33
“31 take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

  17. Our taxes us next month and gratefully have reduced due to refunds
On some issues. God never comes to a halt in supplying needs. When in business I once was lacking enough rent money and prayed to know
That my business was supplying a need for not. Only myself but for the
Many artists, giving them access to public. I knew that it was a right idea. A sports enthusiast came in with a framing order that exactly covered the need and perhaps more. He wasmaking a basement renovation. We were both supplied. With our needs! Several manifestationsof this type occurred in the years we were in business.

  18. Back in the ’60s my Dad lost his well-paying job at a point late in his employment years, not far from retirement. It seemed improbable to get a new job. He had not been a very spiritually active student of Christian Science up till then. Now he went to the Reading Room every day and treated study time like his employment. Before long he was offered a full-time job that met every need for the family and opened new vistas that were a blessing. He grew spiritually too, with joy.

  19. Thank you for this. It is important to know who our source is.
As my husband’s business is all over the world but especially Italy, my prayers are sent off to all and our friends in Italy and beyond. At this time we have heard all are well.

  20. Thank you for all the comments. Thank you Evan for that wonderful list of clear spiritual qualities. They are most useful.

  21. Thank you Evan!
I was touched by the simply beautiful way you put it and explained that fear is not entering the spiritual picture, right what I needed to read and “hear”, very grateful,
    Cris

  22. Thank you Evan for all your recent uplifting posts. They are such timely and relevant messages for a world in need of healing. I am especially grateful for this one! I just shared it with my Financial Planner/Stock Broker and he responded immediately with great gratitude and agreement.
