Value the benefits of patience

“Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.”

~ John Quincy Adams

God always has an answer to any problem we ever face. Sometimes, a bit of patience provides the space we need to hear what God is leading us to do.

  1. I am seeing patience less these days as a waiting period. Meaning: waiting for something to happen period. I can see it more as a quiet time of learning what God has already done. As in:”Patience must have her perfect work.” I can also share that this takes practice! I like to think of Biblical characters who needed to practice patience too and it encourages me so.much. It may be easy to overlook patience as a passive quality but I can see it more now as a very active attribute and one that I want to develop more and more.

    1. I love your thoughts on patience. Once my husband was newly finding his faith and trust in God when we went to a local Bible study. I remember after the study an older member of the group came up to my husband and said, “… Don’t pray for patience our you’ll find out the hard way how to find it” Frightened my husband.

I’m so grateful to know that we can just claim it. No trials and tribulations just total trust.

  2. So grateful for this post, including the stunning photograph, the inspiring JQA quote and Maddie’s insight. Thank you, Evan!

  3. Lovely! Patience, perseverance , & progress all seem to feel my needs…thank U, Evan & all responders.

  4. It’s so interesting you posted this today because just this morning I had that exact thought come to me although differently stated. I decided to go through the day today listening to God and for her direction.
Step-by-step I did this, holding to some of the plans I had made and letting go of others. It turned out to be a very peaceful and harmonious day 🙂 Thank you for posting the thoughts I reflected. Another proof of the one and only Mind there is, God…harmonious, abundant and eternal.

  5. Thank you very much dear Evan for these few words but profound, important and loving truths!
Am working on cultivating patience in me; but actualy our Father-Mother God gives it to us right now. In this week`s lesson we read in the Bible that, if we ask God for wisdom, He will give it to us. So if we ask for patience and perseverance, He will give it to us – I trust it!
What gorgeous foto. The rainbow means our connection to God. Always when I see a rainbow I think about this. But for me the whole foto symbolizes for me the huge endless universe of God which we embrace, just as that person on the foto does.
Thank you always for sending us your spiritual views of the things, Evan. It is so helpful and healing!

  6. Patience. I am patient with people because i know in the atmosphere of love and listening we will find a way to best solution. But with myself, perhaps I need to stop hoping it will be over with and willing to wait because it will be over with soon???. Perhaps patience can be a feeling of assurance, of grounding, and staying open to being led.

    1. That is interesting Nadine what you said at the end.
I agree fully with your last sentence, that patience can, would say I s , a feeling of assurance, grounding and staying open to being led by our Father-Mother God.
Thanks for mentionIng that, wonderful ideas!

  7. to paraphrase the I Ching “Patience is not mere empty hoping…it is an inner certainty.” In S&H, Eddy says” Hold perpetually this thought,- that it is the spiritual idea, the Holy Ghost and Christ, which enables you to demonstrate, with scientific certainty, the rule of healing, based upon it’s divine Priciple, Love, underlying, overlying, and encompassing all true being.”

  8. Lesson Learned: This morning I was waiting impatiently for an answer needed quickly from an e-mail question I had sent. The answer finally came, but my annoyance hung on. Then I read Evan’s article and only Maddie’s answer was on at that time. Oh! surprise for me! I discovered I had wasted all that time in aggravation–what a lost bit of time when I could have been thinking about our Father/ God, his love for all, his patience and love for us–maybe a moment of gratitude or prayer for someone—all that time wasted on aggravation, not a very Godlike thought!
(Repeat) Lesson learned. I will strive from here on to always take waiting moments as a time to thank God, to pray for someone in need, to express gratitude to God for these precious moments to honor him. Dear Evan and Maddie—3rd time for this—Lesson learned!!!!Thank you.

  9. Beautiful Skogafoss waterfall near where my daughter and her family live in Southern Iceland. Thank you for posting this Evan … a clear reminder that our only requirement is “to wait [serve] patiently on God” … pure trust in the only Identity/Substance there is. The “Bow of promise on the cloud” reassures us of His/Her everpresence filling all space as it always has done. Thank you dear Father, Mother, God.

  10. I love this poem which I’ve prayed with for many years:
    Patience
    by Sharon Huntington
    (Sentinel, December 12, 1997)

    Patience is not in
    waiting for good to happen.
    Patience in knowing that
    all of God’s goodness unfolds
    at exactly the right time.

  11. Wow! Wonderful message about patience, and so glad to learn that the gorgeous Skogafoss waterfall is located in Iceland! I’m learning more about patience all the time and had a lovely example today. My carbon monoxide alarm began beeping last night (and it’s very loud!). I thought I would take it to a local hardware store today and ask them to help me with it because I was sure it just needed new batteries but I couldn’t find where to open the device to change them. Suddenly it was clear to me that I could open the front cover and, yes, there were the batteries. I changed them, plugged it back in, but it still beeped! I prayed for the answer, and immediately it came to thought to press the “reset” button. Voila! Mission accomplished. This was a small thing, but Divine Love is right there for the “small” as well as “big” needs in our lives. Thank you, Evan, and all of you for your wonderful comments.

  12. A lovely thought comes to me, namely that we really can be patient as God is endless patient with us. Wonderful idea, isn’t it !

  13. Powerful topic ,

I love this in K.J’s Bible about patience ,also has the word spirit in it and “pride “

Pride is one of my interruptions in humility , pride’s synonymous for patience
The more in humble , the more I of Gods guidance I notice

“Ecclesiastes 7:8 – Better [is] the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: [and] the patient in spirit [is] better than the proud in spirit.”

    Thank you Evan ,
    Thank you all!!
    Great comments !!
