What is truth?

January 5, 2026 | 20 comments

What is true and what is not true are questions we wrestle with every day.

Can you trust everything you hear through the news media?  Can you trust what your eyes see?  Can you trust what your neighbor tells you?  Can you trust sensations of the physical body?  Experience proves you can’t always trust any of the above.  The news media is full of contradictory reports, the eyes often mislead, neighbors can distort the facts and the sensations of the body are notorious for giving false reports.

What is true then?

As Christian Science explains, God is Truth.  All truth is traced back to God.  If you can’t trace it back to God, it doesn’t contain the substance of truth.  And it won’t endure, for only what is of God lasts.

When unsure of what to believe, go to God.  What does God have to say?  What does God know?  What is true with God?

If you can’t find it in God, it doesn’t have legs to stand on.  It’s a fraud, a fake, nothing claiming to be something, but still nothing.  Harbor no fear of it.

God is your best friend when it comes to understanding what is true and what is not true.

If it’s of God, it’s good.  If it’s not, it’s not.

Truth is of God!

  1. Evan, thank you! That is the part I love about Christian Science. It give us a way to understand what is and what is not true. It is a very present help, a decerner of the real and the unreal.

  2. I love thinking of God as my reliable source of all things good..with politely unrest around the world, food shortages, even frágil personal relationship at times..all of these turn our thoughts to our Father/Mother Love – this is our one reliable source..

  3. What a great way in distinguishing what is Truth and what is not!
Thank you! This statement really makes sense, “If you can’t find it in God,
it doesn’t have legs to stand on. It’s a fraud, a fake, nothing claiming to be
something, but still nothing”. That is really what the false pretenders of
mortal thinking tries to tempt us with, isn’t it? A false, fake belief in the fleeting,
temporary, material – that which is only an illusion … not reality, but an
    imposter of the Truth.
Thank you for the clarity in this, Evan. Very helpful.

  4. THANK YOU ANGEL for the TRUTH, talk about Truth is True, I experienced this yesterday, involving a pendant, worn hanging from a silver chain. I thought it was lost in a nearby grocery store, after returning home, finding it NOT hanging on the chain on my neck, so I reported it missing to the store by telephone, asking them to return it to me, thinking that after leaving the store it must have remained there..
Changing into my night clothes, the silver/purple “shell” appeared on the floor, where I picked it up and returned it to the chain. NOTHING IS LOST to DIVINE MIND, proof of God filling all space and being ALL IN ALL.

    1. Thank you for sharing your experience, chilesands. You certainly did
prove that nothing is lost in divine Mind.
I had an experience years ago when I was driving and had the windows
of the car open. Somehow the wind blew out one of my contact lenses.
I pulled to the side of the road to try to find it, but to no avail. I just sat
for a while to Know that nothing is lost. In the next moment, I looked
down, after searching all over the car to try to find the lens and there
within a basket of a sweet dog in a basket necklace I was wearing,
was the lens, safely secure and there all along, where I thought it had
been missing and might never be found and thinking it perhaps blew
out the window. God/Truth Does fill all space. Seeing things spiritually,
through a True Spiritual lens, brings us into alignment with that Real understanding.

  5. We are all famililar with the statement, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free”. There may be numerous ideas of what truth maybe in this case. However, after some reflection, I have come to understand the truth is the fact we can never be separated from God. This is the truth, “we can never be separated from God”. Therefore, the statement must read, “Ye shall know the truth that we can never be separated by God, and in knowing we can never be separated from God, this is or becomes the truth that sets us free. The truth is we can never be separated from God. This is the truth that sets us free from human sense, material claims of unwellness or illness, and it reminds us continuously of the Truth’s omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience.

  6. Chilesands and April thank you for your words.
I also often have had experiences such as you have. I now work with the idea that things are never lost though they may appear unrecognized by us , they can still be seen by God. I often just close my eyes and shut out mortal sense and ask God where the supposedly missing idea is and voila it appears again.

Misplacing keys was a problem I used to experience at one time. Upon working with God as Mind always aware and always capable of total recall I learned how to stop being that mindless mortal that was always losing something.
One thing I now do is make sure I do not mindlessly do things that lead to loss or misplacement of things. I try to govern my day by reflecting attention to even the smallest action of what I am doing. God does not rush into actions but carefully plans and implements all right thoughts and ideas and I reflect that ability.

  7. Your words still my busy mind. Through the fog, with MBE’s reminders, I can focus on what is real and true. This is a precious reminder to keep my thoughts lifted up supported by enduring wings of love.
