What matters most

What matters most in the long run?

All the money you saved in the bank will be left behind some day for someone else to spend.

All the beautiful flowers and plants cultivated in your gardens will transition to another.

All the errands you ran and tasks you performed will fade from memory.

But there’s one thing that remains and stays with you forever. It’s the spiritual life you are living.

Spiritual life is forever. It is not worn out, left behind, depleted, stolen, or lost. It is eternal without end.

What you accomplish spiritually sticks and stays.

The goodness you embody, the love you feel, the wisdom you express, the beauty you hold in your heart, are spiritual, and forever yours.

Material things come and go. But spirituality lived is a part of who we are. It stays with us forever and is never left behind.

Seek what matters most in life. Seek the spiritual and enjoy its eternal benefits!

“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2).

  1. Thank you Evan, so glad to have SpiritView back today. We missed your words of wisdom yesterday and I realize all the more how much I
appreciate this special place you provide.

Earlier I listened to the Wednesday online testimony meeting from The Mother Church and enjoyed singing hymn #370. One verse was
“Light of Truth wherein no sadness
Dims the radiant peace we find,
As we set our whole affection
On the beauteous things of Mind.”

Putting our “whole affection on the beauteous things of Mind” goes right along with your quote from Mrs. Eddy. Thanks for reminding us what matters; these thoughts cut through all the noise and confusion of mortal mind.

  2. So clearly put. Thank you Evan.

Thank you also Martine for the article which is very appropriate and helpful,
and to Rose from New York for the verse of the hymn – something we can
keep in mind all day as we go about our business.

  3. Thank you Evan. Missing your inspiration yesterday, made me understand howinspiring these thoughts have been and are in my daily activities.
What matters most , makes me think of this bible verse which stands as a guidance to me at all times. Mathew 6:33 seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.

  4. Thank you for your inspiration and love to us all. It is noticed when we do not receive our daily bread from you.

  5. Dear Evan, thank you so much for portions of nourishing “Daily Bread “ .
SV family thank you for all your contributions….your comments and links!
A few weeks ago one of you provided a link to an article by Dr, Laurance Doyle…….using the principle of mathematics to reason spiritually!
Please can you repeat that…… thank you in advance!!
    It will help me!!
    Ann

    1. If you have YouTube, there is a Christmas talk, followed by a Q & A, by Laurence Doyle, “THE SCIENCE OF CHRISTMAS ” which is one I return to often. This was the 2021 talk by Third Church NYC. That should pull up another outstanding Christmas talk by Evan, “THE GIFT OF CHRISTIAN HEALING.”

  6. Dearest Evan,
Thank you for your thoughts on everlasting Life and how we fit into that wonderful loving perspective of infinite Truth.

  7. Pair this with the lovely thoughts abounding in the July 31, 2019 SpiritView! Oh my what a joy of loving thoughts. I add Mary Baker Eddy’s admonition ‘Never absent from your post, never off-guard, never ill-humored, never unready to work for God, – is obedience; being ‘faithful over a few things.’ MBE S&H 585.

  8. I have been thinking a lot about this lately, as a dear friend’s Mom has recently
passed on to a journey beyond what we can see “mortally”. Having gone through
this many years ago, I tried to hold to thoughts of seeing her as wonderful qualities
of God’s perfection that always remain with us ~ love, thoughtfulness, compassion,
etc. When my Mom had passed, there was a beautiful sense of Peace and I Knew
she was still ‘with us’ in Spirit and always would be. I could feel her presence
and it dissolved any sense of grief. Seeing her love in a rainbow, gentleness of
a flower or snowflake, a butterfly, a feathered friend, all keep this love very much
alive. Material things fade and are fleeting, but our True Being is eternal.

    1. Thank you very much, dear Carol for your beautiful and impressive comment here!
What you said yesterday: “we are still here in Spirit” is so very loving of you and I felt it, too, thank you a lot!

  9. Edie,- What an interesting, informative, and spiritually uplifting post. Thank you.

Evan, Thank you for “the goodness you embody, the love you feel, the wisdom you express, the beauty you hold in your heart, are spiritual, and forever yours.”

“Forever, O Lord, thy word is settled in heaven.” Psalm 119, 89

    1. Thank you J, wow, this article is a keeper. I gained a deeper and clearer understanding of what “matter” actually means in the Christian Science perspective. It doesn’t refer to material objects per se but to a sense of limitation, constriction, narrowness of thought, impermanence. I’ll be printing this out to read many times.

  10. “The best things in life are not things” I saw this on a t-shirt, how simple, how true…what a great reminder

    1. I like this sentiment Jim, thanks for mentioning it. I’d like to see thoughts like this on signs, posters, commercials and in the media everywhere to nudge us to wake up to higher realities.

Here’s another good one I came across recently, it’s in a book called Ask The Awakened, the author is named Wei Wu Wei

      Why are you unhappy?
      Because 99.9 percent
      Of everything you think
      And of everything you do,
      Is for yourself —
      And there isn’t one.

  11. Thank you very very much, dearest Evan for your blessing SpiritView. It keeps me alert to Truth and teaches me to stay on the right track. Am endless glad I received your SV this Morning. I can think and pray about my real spiritual task here where I am to enjoy and fulfill! Would say that my real and only duty here is to express God, divine Love as His image and likeness in everything I do!
Am also very grateful for this very loving and inspiring SpiritView community!
    That`s a nice T-Shirt Jim!

  12. What an inspiring message to fill our thought over the weekend.
I keep re reading it and finding another way I can bring the reality of Gods all encompassing presence into my consciousness.
Thank you Evan and of course thank you to all the contributors here with excellent articles too❣️
