When a contractor never answers your call

October 24, 2022 | 26 comments

Have you ever hired a contractor who never gets back with you, answers your calls, or responds to your inquiries once you’ve hired him?

After dropping a piece of equipment off at a repair shop six months ago and promised to have the equipment back within 4 – 6 weeks, I started to get frustrated when it became apparent over the ensuing months, that nothing was happening to get the equipment repaired.

It was not a supply chain issue holding up the progress. It was a lack of attention to getting the job done. Nothing was happening! I could not make any sense out of why the repair hadn’t been made. The repairman had good intent when I talked to him, but nothing happened afterward.

Finally, after six months of delay, inactivity, and no progress, I decided to pick the equipment up and bring it home. It’s over 120 miles away from my house.

As I pick up the phone to call, I decide to give my relationship with the repairman on the other end a Christian Science treatment.

In my prayers, I declare that he is a responsible, conscientious, caring, thoughtful man who knows how to do his job well, and loves to follow through with his commitments. I declare that he can answer the phone in person, remember who I am, and have heartening answers to share with me.

As I prayed to see our relationship through the lens of Love, my angst, frustration, and despair vanish. I feel calm and peace.

The phone rings. The lead man answers. He remembers who I am, tells me that they looked at the equipment, the part will be here in a couple of days, and I can pick up the equipment in two weeks.

I was so happy to hear his words! Even more, I was grateful to God for the quick response to my prayer.

“And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear” (Isaiah 65:24).

  1. Similarly, I left a wool skirt to have the waist band tightened. Previous adjustments of other clothes had taken only a week or two. Now months has passed. I rang, no answer, left a message. Whenever I thought of the seamstress I still was so grateful for all she had done. The phone rang and my skirt was ready. I picked up my skirt in the company of a young friend. When we got back to the car I didn’t have my keys!??
Back we went to the shop and got the keys. Then in delight we treated ourselves to ice cream!

    1. Thank you for sharing the information about previous Radio Sentinel Programs. You are a blessing to share the link on SPIRIT VIEW for me and others to listen to their timeless programs

  2. Thank you Evan, I was so inspired by your testimony, I immediately replaced the word ‘contractor’ with a completely different noun relating to an ongoing, seeming saga I have been dealing with. I now expectantly await the same good results. Identifying our fellow man correctly is essential. It’s all too easy to be lured into disappointment and sometimes grief when sleepwalking in the material dream.
    I so appreciate Spiritview.
    Thank you very much

  3. I’m new to Spirit View. I really appreciate you sharing exactly how you prayed. I will apply your prayer to my own situation. Thank you!

    1. Shirley you mentioned you are new to SV. Just wanted to say welcome. Thanks for being here and sharing.

  4. Thanks, I needed that today. The contractor didn’t show up as planned to assess hurricane damage. So grateful to know it is all in God’s hands.

  5. Thanks Evan, I was fuming and fretting on people not fulfilling commitments and this article turned up in my email…it was so helpful. Thank you.

  6. I live in a retirement community. Several years ago, I placed my 2 Norwegian bowls on a table at the end of a hallway where a resident neighbor really appreciated them. When she passed on recently, the bowls went missing. I did two things. First, I established in my own thought the honesty and pure identity of whoever was involved in the disappearance. Then I placed a notice in the community weekly stating they had been mistakenly removed. Then I waited, assured. Three weeks later the bowls reappeared in their original location. It has given me deep reassurance that the invisible power of good is always operating.

    1. I remember when a kid living near South Orange, NJ that our phone number was SO2-. . . . I remember hearing a talk quite a few years ago by Myrtle Smyth. She referred to the Isaiah quote as God’s telephone number. Isaiah 65:24. “…….before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” And thank you, Evan for your wonderful and helpful I Spirit View.

  7. I just love this. Evan, deepest and heartfelt thanks for your wonderful SpiritView posts and vlogs. Each and every one radiates such light and love. Heartfelt thanks, too, for the wonderful comments left by your readers.

  8. Thank you, Evan. This is so timely. It seems like around us there is always the action to give a negative shout-out on Nextdoor or equal. I really appreciate the emphasis this morning to remember that our service providers are like everyone else – perfect examples of God’s perfection.

  9. I knew of an upholsterer who had always taken a long time to get
the job done. He was delivering a couch and the customer was
Screaming at him of why it took so long. He calmly acted like
there was nothing wrong and just smiled. When they returned
to the truck, the gentleman who was helping him, asked him
how he could stay so calm. He turned on his hearing aide and
    said, “What?”
We, too, can ignore incoming mortal messages that try to sway
us into believing in a power other than what can promote our
spiritual progress and tune out disruptive thoughts.

  10. Evan,- your experience with this man is an applicable lesson to me. In my case the “contractor” is someone who has owed me money for some time, avoids communication, and when conversation does happen the check is always “in the mail” but never arrives. Love your treatment in knowing this individual is a responsible, conscientious,, caring and thoughtful child of God who has the integrity to follow through with a commitment. Your posts are always so helpful in assuring that as we pray aright we will see that the laws of good are in full operation, and that healing is the natural outcome. Heartfelt gratitude to you.

  11. Wow…as I’m currently in the process of moving into a home I’m having renovatedand things aren’t going quite as originally planned, let’s just say this morning’s post was quite welcome and very comforting. Thank you for all you do, Evan.

  12. I am so glad to be turned around by your POST today, Evan. One sleeper sofa, a keeper, not only needed a new cover all around, but repair to the frame as well, but our contractor not only didn’t return the sofa as promised, but he moved shop across town, without an notice.

Just last week, we visited him at his new shop, and he greeted us just as he had when the sofa was carried out of our home to be recovered/repaired.

We were so grateful to learn that the correct fabric was on hand, (we were allowed to inspect the new material), all along the comfort was found in praying to see the honesty, the trustworthiness, as well as the labor of love completed by workers who under unfortunate circumstances continued to work at their trade, and so will have the rewards of seeing the work/labor/honesty complete.

  13. Very grateful to receive this message today Evan. At first I thought, this is not for me, as I am not a homeowner, but a renter, and do not usually have occasion to hire contractors. But as I read on I realized that what you were expressing and how you prayed is widely applicable to a variety of circumstances.

So many gems today to savor. Special appreciation to:
-Sancy for link to early Sentinel Radio broadcast.
-Linda for, “….sleepwalking in the material dream.”
    -Margaret for, “….deep reassurance that the invisible power of good is always operating.”;
-Linda, Santa Barbara, “…..as we pray aright we will see that the laws of good are in full operation, and that healing is the natural outcome.”

Honored to be in the company of thinkers, studiers and seers of Truth. Blessings to all.

  14. Sometimes God has such a sense of humour. I was about to write to the telephone/broadband company about my not-yet-installed phone, when I read this. If ever there was a directly focused message, this was it. Thank you, Evan, and all those who have shared comments.

  15. Thanks Evan! This supports my efforts along the same lines: we had an appliance repairman, that we had used twice before, come by to fix our dishwasher machine. He did a temporary fix, and we paid him there to order the needed part. That was many, many months ago. Over the months I have called, texted and emailed. Once I actually got him on the phone, he said he had the part and scheduled a time to come over, one that even appeared on my Google calendar. He didn’t show, and I have called, emailed and texted numerous times with zero response. I will continue to pray about it.

  16. God’s honest truth. I had been seeking a carpetner for a project and every one I called had reasons not to do it — too small a job or they were too busy — or they simply did not respond to my inquiry. I had pretty much given up on it and forgotten it. This story reminded me that I had not prayed over it, treated the challenge. I now did so and the next day, seemingly out of the blue I got a call from a contractor who saw a request I had done for the work long ago through an interenet service. He wanted to know if I still needed someone. I said yes and he came promptly the next day to do the estimate and the work is now scheduled.

  17. Thanks Evan. After reading your testimony, I am having faith in God.
Knowing that resolves all seemingly difficulties in His own way. Writing from this week’s bible lesson. Let Truth uncover error in God’s own.
