When others around you have no faith

October 7, 2022 | 36 comments

Is it harder to pray and stick to the truth of being when the people around you have no faith in God, in prayer, or in spiritual healing? It might seem like it, but it isn’t.

Is it harder for the sun to shine when there is a massive amount of darkness before it’s face? No. It makes no difference. The sun continues to be the sun and do what the sun does—shine bright light!

Likewise, with us in our daily routine, it is not harder to let our light shine with Truth when many around us would deny that light presence or pooh-pooh it with doubt and derision. Another’s error is not our truth. We can continue to live true to spiritual reality and think spiritual reality no matter what our neighbor appears to be objectifying. We can continue to prosper and succeed in our demonstrations of spiritual truth.

It might seem hard to stay true to our faith if our thought fills with judgment and fear. But this is not necessary. We can love the truth about God’s spiritual man, rather than judge mortal man, and keep our thinking in a super positive healing place.

The darkness does not dim the light. Faithlessness does not dim faith.

Your understanding of Truth is the light of the world! Let it shine bright and keep it shining bright!

  1. Oh how I needed this Evan! It can seem very difficult sometimes having no contact with like minded people, seeking spiritual understanding instead of material remedies ..
I especially like ‘ another’s error is not our truth ‘.
MBE says ‘hold thought steadfastly to the enduring the good and the true’ so, thank you for Spirit View and all the Christian Science books and literature that is available for all those quiet moments when the material just goes rushing by❣️

    1. Dear Barbara. I remember you used to post as living in Cumbria but said you were not near any other CS. I wondered if you are aware that Carlisle Society holds lovely zoom services each Sunday at 11.00 and Wednesday at 18.00. I often join them myself when my church has no Wednesday mtg. Their email address is: [email protected] if you are interested and they will be happy to send you the link. With love Linda.

      1. Hi Linda
I knew of the society but didn’t realise they still did zoom services. Thank you so much for sending me the link. I will endeavour to join them as I could not get to the church at the present time. I need to overcome some opposition unfortunately. I have been watching the u-tube recording from High Wycombe for some time now. It has been a lovely resource for me as I can choose when. Thank you so much for thinking of me…the one Mind in operation.x

        1. Barbara!
I “go” to the Tithe Barn in High Wycombe too when there isn’t a meeting in Glasgow. I find them all so welcoming 😀

Thanks for the link Linda, I didn’t realise there was a Zoom service from Carlisle.

          1. I am a regular attendee at Carlisle ‘s services which are still going strong. They have been and continue to be such a blessing – a wonderfully supportive group of ideas! Hope to see you there Barbara and thank you Linda for mentioning it.

  2. Our dear leader has much to say about remaining steadfast in Love. In her Prose Works, Miscellany, page 191 she writes in her usual eloquence, “Be patient towards persecution. Injustice has not a tithe of the power of justice. Your enemies will advertise for you. Christian Science is spreading steadily throughout the world. Persecution is the weakness of tyrants engendered by their fear, and love will cast it out. Children of light, you are not children of darkness. Let your light shine.”

Overflowing gratitude to you Evan for your continuous encouragement for us to stay aligned and committed to what we know is the spiritual Truth of being.

    1. Dear Evan and Linda… thank you! I have yet to read the rest of the comments- but Evan this idea is so helpful. I am the only Christian Scientist in my family and don’t work in a CS position- I often view things differently and it sometimes feels like an unending battle. These ideas are helpful and Linda- the citation above is so helpful thank you for sharing it. I will study it further. Grateful

      1. There is a story told that one of Mrs Eddy’s students complained that her healing practice was difficult because ‘her husband was not ‘in Science’. To which Mrs Eddy is said to have replied ‘ My dear, where else could he be’?’

I have found this to be very helpful in seeing that there are no CS and non-CS – just the beloved children of God. He makes no distinction .

  3. Dear Evan, thank you so much for this today. it’s exactly what seems to be happening right now. and thank you so much for all of your amazing work this week on supply. I really need all of it. thank you thank you thank you!

  4. Thank you, Evan. This is a wonderful, affirming statement that I needed to hear. The truth of this has been unfolding in my life for some time.

  5. Thank you, Evan. What a timely post. I think looking at the example left by the master tells us what to do. He would refresh himself, then he went down into the multitudes and healed people. He did not keep himself sequestered from the world.

  6. I’m quoting from memory here (because I’m not sure how to attach the article) – but here goes: John B. Willis, in a 1906 article in the Sentinel, “ The Significance of Belief”, says “True faith IN Christ is the faith OF Christ.” (Emphasis added).( It’s worth noting that Mrs. Eddy was there at the time and probably read or maybe even edited this article,)

So: if we ever feel our faith wobbling, we can know that since God the Father and Christ Jesus have infinite, lively, ever-expanding, all-encompassing, strong and indestructible faith, we have that very same faith – by reflection. We deny any doubt, and claim hat faith ‘til we feel it!

  7. Thank you Evan for your Good Work ❤️
I share Christian Science in my little town, Full of churches but not one CS church or society. This Post spoke to me greatly. I find interesting ways to talk / share with people and have much gratitude for the healings happening and the interest of ‘non believers’, wanting to know more about ‘how does This happen’ and saying “I want to know more.” I find that after someone experiences healing, they want to know more about Mrs. Eddy and her life and ask for literature and some want to read Science and Health. Grateful to say”The sun is shining it’s lite on all the residents of my little town today” God knows where all His ideas are and provides whatever is needed.
My greatest PLEASURE is to share Christian Science!!!
    Love to All,
    CayDee

    1. Thanks CayDee, it so nice to think of you comfortably and happily sharing CS, with people from all backgrounds and seeing healing unfold. I appreciated “God knows where all His ideas are and provides whatever is needed.” Very comforting.

Evan I also appreciated your statement that, “We can love the truth about God’s spiritual man, rather than judge mortal man.” It made me think of the idea I’ve heard expressed here on SV and elsewhere that ALL are included and embraced in the One and only divine Mind, the Mind of God. Therefore we can pray to know that right, divine ideas will reach the right people at the right time to reveal right results. Nothing can interfere with the operation of Truth! Thank you all and blessed joyful weekend to everyone.

      1. Thank you very much dear Rose for your lovely comment!
To you as well a blessed and joyful weekend!♡

  8. Thank you very much dear Evan for lovingly encouraging us to let our Faith shine bright and keep it shining bright. I am grateful getting more and more understanding of Truth through studying the lesson sermon which fills our thinking with the needed Truth, and through church . The christian singer and songwriter Cherie Brennan, who composes wonderful songs in the sense of Christian Science, sings a song “You be the light”. I love her songs a lot which she sings in modern tune and they are very refreshing and inspiring.

It is very comforting for me that the psalmist says, that God gives man Faith and Understanding with which we can concer error. So in that sense.
Wonderful Evan, “The darkness does not dim the light. Faithlessness does not dim faith.
Thank you dearly for your healing and comforting SpiritView!

  9. Thanks for posting the article! It’s on a different topic, but it does include the quote I mentioned, somewhere in the middle.

  10. Thank you so much Evan and all commenters! This is perfect for a family situation for me, a great reminder to not judge others erroneously but to just love. I too will print it out and take it Christian Science Bible Study at my local jail, where folks are often confronted with differing, and sometimes opposing views of religion.

And I trust that the church in the UK will not mind if I join them from Colorado, USA, where our autumn leaves are brilliantly turning colors like the picture above.

  11. Evan –Thank you for comment. “We can love the truth about God’s spiritual man, rather than judge mortal man.”
Rose from New York: I needed the reminder: “that ALL are included and embraced in the One and only divine Mind, the Mind of God. Therefore we can pray to know that right, divine ideas will reach the right people at the right time to reveal right results. Nothing can interfere with the operation of Truth! ”

Thank you to both Evan and Rose from New York–and everyone else from Spirit View.

  12. Thank you Rose, Uta, Carolyn and Shelagh
    This article is wonderful
    THE SIGNIFICANCE OF BELIEF
    John B. Willis
    Oct. 6, 1906 Sentinel

Loved the quote from Mrs. Eddy ..

“Until belief becomes faith, and faith becomes spiritual understanding, human thought has little relation to the actual or divine” (Science and Health, p. 297).

Thank you dear Evan for SPIRITVIEW ❤️

  13. Evan,

Thank you for another wonderful Spiritview. I could not help but think of people in their own personal lenticular. Every once in a while the cloud layers would thin so one could look out and see grand views of the warm sun shining and the stillness. But, while the cloud was there, their experience was extreme cold and windy with limited views (socked in). Like material sense hiding the grand views of spiritual sense. They are capable of seeing it regardless of what they are currently seeing but just are not seeing it right now due to the lenticular cloud. Faith is like knowing you are just in a lenticular that will clear when tempted by a storm (false idea/lie).

  14. Kristen, perfect Analogy!! I looked up the word lenticular … loved your statement “Like material sense hiding the grand views of spiritual sense.”
Oh how we want to stay away from the ‘lenticular’ view
    Thanks for your comment
    CayDee

  15. Thanks Evan! Good stuff and timely as this issue is certainly in my face every day, from friends, neighbors, even family, as, I suspect, it is for many of us.

  16. Hi Lawrence, Sadly, I certainly can relate to your comment. I try to get out of the way, knowing it is not my job to change peoples minds … just work to keep knowing the Truth which becomes my spiritual armor, keeping me safe from judging, correcting and taking an “untruth” into my thinking. Then lovingly think … Bless their heart, when they know / see better they will be better! And thank you Father for knowing and seeing your perfect reflection and shining that before my eyes, so I’m not deceived!!
    CayDee

  17. Thank you so much for all your uplifts, they are absolutely amazing and so helpful.
Thank you to all contributors, for sharing helpful ideas and articles.

  18. Thank you. That makes me feel better! It is easy to cave to bummer this and bummer that……….But now I won’t,.
