You have a niche to fill

I find this short video inspiring because it brings out the truth that everyone has a valuable niche to fill in the scheme of Life. Sometimes, it may take a while to find it, but when we persist, we shall prevail.

“Sparky the Loser”

“Each individual must fill his own niche in time and eternity”

  1. Oh, Evan – what a beautiful, touching, and inspiring story! As I saw the last part unfolding I was amazed and delighted. Charles certainly did ‘fill his own niche in time and eternity’.
(I bet Tony Lobl will love it !)

  2. What a lovely and humbling video! Thank you Evan for sharing this uplifting message today. What a lesson to learn from this,” press on, press on”.

  3. Thank you Evan.
This video brought forth so many memories I have virtually shared with Charles M. Schulz, the author of Peanuts. The similarity of our names caused me to get emails that were meant for him. All of which were arranged to be printed and sent to him.
    Love.

  4. Ohhhh yes, I think many people relate to feeling like this little boy and I was one of them ..always felt so hopelessly bad at everything as a child.

But now so grateful that with our “Christian Science eyes” we learn to see that every person has their niche, their right place on our ‘chessboard of life’. Sometimes we feel as if we have been put off the board and are even out of the game! But there can be no “wrong place, wrong timing” as GOD is in charge of Life, God IS our life and we ARE the actually the expression of God!
But how interesting to see with Charlie Shultz, it was actually those very experiences that MADE HIM BECOME such an identity…it was all those rejections and how he kept on undeterred, that evolved his character and then GAVE him the character of Charlie Brown. Mary Baker Eddy wrote about God “graciously preparing ‘ her for her work ahead, and the same thing in this instance! So I guess we must not judge our circumstances too harshly as they are “moulding and chiselling thought”…preparing us…helping us to learn and to achieve the potential we all have for our lives.

  5. Evan, thank u. Our church once had a lecture where that quote from Mrs Eddy was my favorite memory. I love “Charlie Brown” and the artist deserved his special place in our hearts. Kudos for sharing

  6. The video was very inspiring. We must never give up. Life is full of many glorious surprises. God is always with us on the journey . Let your light shine.

  7. Dear Evan,

Thank you so much!! Very touching. A healing, encouraging message for everyone whether they feel they’ve failed at different things or not. It certainly teaches compassion and shows that we should never give up.

  8. Dear Evan,

So much gratitude to you for sharing this inspiring message about Charles Schultz–yes, “Charlie Brown” is beloved everywhere! We can probably all identify times when “failure” seemed to be part of our experience, but it’s so clear that even those times can bring us more clearly to an understanding of Divine Love’s purpose and promise for our lives–and the lives of all.

    Thank you!

    Karen

  9. Thanks so much, Evan! Very Touching and Inspiring!

“I Love Myself the way I am, there’s nothing I need to change. I’ll always be the Perfect Me, there’s nothing to rearrange. I’m Beautiful and Capable of being the Best Me I can. And I Love Myself just the way I am!”

  10. I love this. I had the honor of meeting Charles Schultz once. I asked him if he might ever put Snoopy in rollerblades. (His daughter was a professional rollerblader!) and he said no….THat he never wanted to inject anything timely into his cartoons…that would set the world in a certain era…I thought that was interesting. What a great video I look forward to sharing with my family.

  11. What a great video. I have now wiped away my tears of joy. I also look forward to sharing with my family.

  12. Thanks for the great video! So meaningful. I’m sharing it with family members (one, in particular) who will appreciate it and who will be helped by it. It was precious—thank you.

  13. This calls to mind an article from the March 1911 Journal, “The Problem of the Hickory Tree” by Louise Knight Wheatley.

When our children were growing up I lived with this, in leaflet form,
constantly when dealing with our younger son.
He was a good boy but felt he knew all but didn’t have to let it be known to his teachers or those in authority. He refused to do school assignments or any required work in or out of school. For years I went to his school on Friday, picked up his assignments, sat him down during the weekend, insisted he do the work and then I carried it back to his teachers on Monday.
He did indeed blossom into a bright and accomplished gentleman who now has grown children of his own who are joyfully fulfilling their respective niches in God’s plan.
Persistence does indeed have it’s reward and allow us fulfill God’s plan for each of us.
Thank you Evan for this delightful and inspiring video, and to all commenters.

    1. thanks a lot, Dorothy for sharing this touching and great demontration!
God gives the ideas and is the doing!

  14. Thank you Evan for sharing this story about one of my favorite cartoon characters. Hadn’t known until recently of Charles’ struggle.
I greatly admire Dorothy’s unique way of dealing with a son who wouldn’t do homework or schoolwork. Kudos to a successful Mom.
Thank you Evan for bringing fresh, healing ideas for 5 days a week to your fans. Hugs!

  15. Thank you Evan, for this touching life story which has a “happy end” and a very successful.

And from a Christian Science Perspective there cannot be any loser and no life of losing, as God is our Life, giving us as His children lots of opportunities to fill our niche with successfull and happy doings, expressing God`s qualities.

I am grateful that I meanwhile realized having found with God`s merciful guidance how to fill my niche, namely what I said above, expressing God. And that is actually, how every child of God is filling their niche, and that is what Sparky accomplished successfully – finally its God`s doing!

Thank you Evan to make us think about this a bit deeper – Love to all!

  16. I have to admit, I see this differently. It is a wonderful story about a man who knew who he was even though the rest of the world did not. A common theme. 🙂 He simply expressed God’s qualities (not man’s expectations or definitions of intelligence) and eventually the world (or world thought) caught on he was a pretty amazing guy. In a nutshell, he was just himself. God doesn’t make mistakes, only perfection. When we realize who we are, we can’t help but shine and sometimes the world sees it. When we realize who we are, we are filled with love, joy and gratitude. Our cups runneth over. Evan, thank you for a wonderful message reminding us of who we are – today and each day. We are each “…fearfully and wonderfully made…” (Psalms 139:14 fearfully).

  17. Yes, that’s Right, Kirsten! That’s why we need to just “Love ourselves exactly the way we are, there’s nothing that needs to be changed or rearranged.”!!!

    1. ”When we realize who we are…”. I am worried you may have misunderstood my comment. I apologize for the misunderstanding. 🙁

“To seek Truth through belief in a human doctrine is not to understand the infinite. We must not seek the immutable and immortal through the finite, mutable, and mortal, and so depend upon belief instead of demonstration, for this is fatal to a knowledge of Science.”
      SH 286:1-6

“Has man fallen from a state of perfection?

If God is the Principle of man (and He is), man is the idea of God; and this idea cannot fail to express the exact nature of its Principle, — any more than goodness, to present the quality of good. Human hypotheses are always human vagaries, formulated views antagonistic to the divine order and the nature of Deity. All these mortal beliefs will be purged and dissolved in the crucible of Truth, and the places once knowing them will know them no more forever, having been swept clean by the winds of history. The grand verities of Science will sift the chaff from the wheat, until it is clear to human comprehension that man was, and is, God’s perfect likeness, that reflects all whereby we can know God. In Him we live, move, and have being. Man’s origin and existence being in Him, man is the ultimatum of perfection, and by no means the medium of imperfection. Immortal man is the eternal idea of Truth, that cannot lapse into a mortal belief or error concerning himself and his origin: he cannot get out of the focal distance of infinity. If God is upright and eternal, man as His likeness is erect in goodness and perpetual in Life, Truth, and Love. If the great cause is perfect, its effect is perfect also; and cause and effect in Science are immutable and immortal. A mortal who is sinning, sick, and dying, is not immortal man; and never was, and never can be, God’s image and likeness, the true ideal of immortal man’s divine Principle. The spiritual man is that perfect and unfallen likeness, coexistent and coeternal with God. “As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.””
      Mis. 78:25-25 (np)

  18. To Evan, in the title, the perpet is used. Referencing on-line dictionaries yielded no definition for the word as used in your blog. Will you share with us all what is the meaning/definition of “perpet”, please. Thank you in advance. ever with love.

    1. Hi chilesands, The screen with what appears to be the word “perpet” in it above is a still shot of the video. The still shot was taken before the entire text of the screen was displayed. The word that shows up as “perpet” becomes “perpetual” as the video continues to run. If you replay the video you will see this screen at the 2 minute and 15 second point of the video. The entire text of this screen once it completes reads:

The main character would be a little boy who symbolizes the perpetual loser and chronic underachiever.

  19. Thank you Evan for sharing this beautiful story. I have worked with “special needs” children for years. This story is so inspiring. God has a purpose for each of us. No one is ever a loser. We may have different paths and appear different to others, but God is working his purpose out in each of us.

  20. Got it Brian, your explanation was crystal clear. Looking up the definition of perpetual provided me a much deeper meaning to the blog, so I’m grateful for the opportunity to dig a bit deeper. Reading Ann’s comment following yours also brightened my day; working my purpose out by letting God do the “doing” and I do the reflecting brings inspiration. Thank you again.
