Your spiritual Teflon

June 2, 2025 | 17 comments

To stay healthy and poised throughout the day, be sure to wear your spiritual Teflon!

Teflon is a nonstick surface used in industry and cookware to keep food and substances from sticking to tools and equipment.  An egg slides off Teflon with ease leaving no residue behind.

Spiritual Teflon is our ability to remain in the Mind of Christ, no matter what kind of mental garbage comes slinging at us from mortal mind at large.

For instance, if someone throws a false accusation at us, we can stay calm and reply with a sensible truth.  If someone gets angry at us and wants to get us riled up, we can respond with sensible reason, rather than react with heated anger.

No matter what negativity mortal mind throws our way, we can remain in the Mind of Christ, which allows that negativity to slide off our sense of being without leaving any residue of resentment, agitation, or fear behind.

We can remain in the Mind of Christ in all circumstances!

Keep on your spiritual Teflon, and enjoy a clean state of Mind that keeps you happy and healthy.

  1. An inspiring thought, Evan, thank you.

I am thinking that we can cover ourselves – i.e.protect ourselves – daily with the spiritual idea of oil, which will do the job nicely – all erroneous
suggestions will just slip off naturally.

OIL. Consecration; charity; gentleness; prayer; heavenly inspiration.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 592:25

    )

    1. Yes, very nice analogy!
Teflon does mean slippery and non-stick to most modern minds, but the spiritual definition of OIL works great!

  2. “No matter what negativity mortal mind throws our way, we can remain in the Mind of Christ, which allows that negativity to slide off our sense of being without leaving any residue of resentment, agitation, or fear behind.”

What a great idea to include in our morning prayerful work and keep in mind throughout the day!

  3. Wonderful thought for good instead of the opposite which I’ve heard compared. Thank you Evan!

  4. “Healing of a skin blemish” by Anita Byth. From the May 9, 2022 issue of The Christian Science Sentinel:

An excerpt: “What am I looking at? If God is Love (see I John 4:8) and God (Love) is All—infinite—then there’s no place for anything unlovely.”
Thank you Evan. I love this testimony and like expanding on this thought of nothing “unlovely”…also nothing unloving or unlovable is able to attach/stick to us or anyone else. It came to thought that we never can, or ever have been outside the consciousness of divine Mind.

    1. dear J, thank you for sharing that wonderful testimony, so simple and clearly explained, so that we can apply those truths, too.

And thank you very much, dear Evan for that humorous topic of today’s SpiritView. Anything unlike God slides away from that Teflon, specially if filled with the spiritual oil, mentioned by Maggi up here. Thank you Maggi!
Am so grateful for Evan’s comforting and healing spiritual views!♡

  5. This message reminds me of like “water rolling off of a duck’s back”. Apparently
because of the protection duck’s have, they are able to withstand what they
normally would not. We have that protection, too, from God, who gives us the
strength to shirk off anything that mortal negativity would try to place on us. Also
Hymn # 292 came to mind:
“Put on the whole armor of pure consecration, The breastplate of righteousness
valiantly gird, With shield of true faith, and the helmet of salvation –
The sword of the Spirit is God’s mighty Word!
For His is the greatness, the power and the glory, The victory His, when for succor
we call; His majesty shines in creation’s wondrous story, And He is exalted as
    head over all!”
God’s armor is like Teflon – it shields us from anything error in thinking would try
    to attack us with.

    1. Thank you Carol for your good comments. Ducks have a natural Teflon, don’t they. I love that hymn as well.

Thank you J for the excellent article. Maggiew for the comparison to Oil, and Evan for the topic. I didn’t LOL, but I did smile a lot. A real timely topic since we recently got a Teflon pan and already the material Teflon is not working satisfactorily. That annoyance is also something to let slide off.

Have a free from things that should not stick June. Love and thanks to all.

  6. Spiritual Teflon – I love it!
I also love Maggiw’s tie-in with Mrs. Eddy’s spiritual definition of oil, and Carol’s thoughts on protection.
    Thank you all.

  7. Thank you Evan, great imagery to remember to keep our spiritual armor on, or being awake to our spiritual conscience. Also liked the link to “oil” that we all know. I was reminded that oil is mentioned in the Bible as a substance of anointing–anointing being a form of making holy according to Cambridge dictionary (or enthroning royalty,) and one way to address royalty is “serene.” Serene is of course, being calm, not losing one’s cool (we might say casually today.) I love how all ties up.
