Many times over the years I’ve used the phrase, “waves of love,” to characterize the cleansing, purifying and uplifting effect God can have on our lives.
For instance, an ocean wave sweeps over a sandy beach and wipes it clean of debris, footprints of the past and disturbed soil, leaving behind a pristine scene twinkling with fresh and new delight under a sunny sky. So inspirational truth can sweep through the human mind, cleansing it of fears and doubts, beliefs and pains leaving behind a purified and uplifted consciousness that celebrates newfound health, joy and freedom.
But what happens if you “miss the wave?” What if you feel like you’re standing on the seashore of divine Love and still waiting for something positive to happen?
Fear not. There is a wave coming in your direction, and you can’t help but catch it!
I was standing on the deck of our cruise ship last month while cruising across the Gulf of Alaska. It was a beautiful day with the sun shining above, a gentle breeze, and waves rolling in our direction for as far as the eye could see.
As I watched the hundreds of waves one at a time brushing up into the wake of our vessel, I was impressed by the fact that there was no end to how many of those waves were going to keep flowing our way. One wave would hit, then another, another, and another, and hundreds, thousands, more after that. There was no end to the waves coming our way.
God’s “waves of love” are this way! I exclaimed to myself and to the wind and space around me. There is no end!
If we feel we missed a wave of opportunity coming in our direction, we can rest assured that another is right behind it. The “waves of love” is not a singular event. It’s a whole series of God’s goodness pouring forth without end, one opportunity right after the other.
If we feel we messed up in the past, we can release any fear of loss, because another opportunity to get it right is rolling our way.
My kids took surfboard lessons one time when our family visited a beach location. It was fun to watch them try to “catch a wave.” They failed several times, stumbling and bumbling, tripping and falling. But they didn’t give up. They didn’t fear a loss of opportunity. They knew another wave was coming right behind them, giving them another chance to get it right. And eventually they learned to surf the board and ride a wave with joy and delight.
The same rule applies to the activity and progress of your life. There is no end of opportunity to get it right. The good of life is not a temporal thing or event that happens only once and then never again. God’s good is continuous, on-going, ever-present, and constant.
So, if you feel like you stumbled yesterday, or missed out entirely, fear not. Let the remorse go, get back up on your mental and spiritual feet, and get ready to catch the next wave coming your way.
The “waves of love” are coming in your direction without fail and without end. Get ready to surf!
I love this!
How invorating. Thank you so much.
I meant to type “invigorating” of course!!
“…truth cannot be reversed, but the reverse of error is true.” So wrote Mary Baker Eddy in her book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, (page 442.)
Your words today, Evan, about the waves of Love, help me think properly about the threats of tsunami waves that “may happen” as the result of the Canadian earthquake recently. And then to the waves that are believed to be about to hit the east coast due to the hurricane… These thoughts led to the above quote.
Christian Science teaches us to reverse error. Why? Because the reverse of error is true. And I’m interested in the truth! “Ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free,” so spoke Christ Jesus. I (we all) have something to do! The media reports can sometimes create fear, concern for those in the areas possibly affected by these “freaks of nature.” But the fact is, divine Love is calmly governing its entire universe. And this truth cannot be reversed!
We can know this truth, and be free!!

Oh, how true it is that “Truth cannot be reversed, but the reverse of error is true.” How we as C/Scientists, had to be alert enough during Hurricane Sandy. There was damage, but if we didn’t do our prayerful work, it could have been much worse. We supported our elected officials to receive the correct ideas from God that led us out of this turmoil. Waves of Love, instead of waves of fear unfolded the ideas used to keep as many safe from Sandy.
I love the thought of everlasting waves. It certainly shoots holes in the thought of “just one more chance”
when mistakes are made. Ann
