Finding Your Strength

February 26, 2014 | 11 comments

Where do you look for strength? Do you seek it in food, exercise, drugs, coffee, or vitamins? Many people do. But there’s a higher place to go for ability that lasts and supports your being with long lasting results. Right to God!

True strength is spiritual. It comes from Spirit.

Jesus Christ understood this truth when he commanded, “Rise and walk,” and the palsied man walked.

The Psalmist wrote, “The Lord is my strength and song, and is become my salvation” (Ps. 118:14). It’s okay to take this passage literally. God empowers your being to express the faculties of Life without limit.

Many times when I’ve felt weak and tired, a fresh glimpse of spiritual truth has brought renewed vigor and vitality. Mind and body perk up when thought is imbued with the inspiration of Spirit. Change for the better can happen in an instant.

So, don’t fall asleep into believing you are a weak mortal that needs a material additive. As a child of God, you are an empowered immortal with everything you need built into your being to be up and well. You have the strength of God to express and enjoy. Life is your opportunity to prove it.

Seek Truth and pursue it. It will not only give you a kick-start out of any mental rut you should not be in, it will keep you going too.

“Obedience to Truth gives man power and strength” Science and Health, p. 183.

“Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good” Science and Health, p. 393.

“We have strength in proportion to our apprehension of the truth, and our strength is not lessened by giving utterance to truth. A cup of coffee or tea is not the equal of truth, whether for the inspiration of a sermon or for the support of bodily endurance”Science and Health, p. 80.

    1. It is 3:36 A.M. here and your healing message is a gift from God for me. For the last 6 hours I have suffered severe pain in one leg, such that I couldn’t sleep or walk. I was using a make do walker out of a clothes stand. When I saw your message about rising up and walking and that the strength comes from Spirit I felt so uplifted that I wanted to comment. It came to me we are known by our works and decided that I could go to the kitchen to get my water without my new walker. I did. I felt like Peter walking on the water. The first few steps were with joy. By the time I got to the living room I felt like I had made a mistake. “mount up on wings” came to me and I moved forward. I am now happily sitting back at my desk with my water bottle (not coffee) and am ready to read my Bible Lesson to see more about how Jesus commanded material sense to shut up, Spirit has something to say here.
      With much gratitude,

  1. Thanks, Evan. Great message here! I love strength training. Not to get stronger but to express my God-given strength. No deference to aging is every given to me by my trainer. He said once to me: Age has nothing to do with strength. Amen! It’s human belief in limitation and aging that would have us stop moving and grooving! I love Mary Baker Eddy’s statement: “Mind is the source of all movement and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual motion.”(hope I got that correct…from memory).

    1. Thanks Grace! I love that statement from Mary Baker Eddy (Science and Health) too. I used it recently in praying about and healing a “heart murmur” or “irregular heartbeat” or “something”…I never got it medically diagnosed so I’m not sure what to call it…but now I just call it “gone”. 🙂

Thanks Evan! Another wonderful healing message that will stick with me!

  2. To help Grace. The last part of her sentence; “check it’s perpetual and harmonious action.”
I use that for all kinds of movement such as driving a car, Airplane and Train travel. It really protects from accidents.

  3. Thank you for the reminder of where our strength comes from. Jesus had awakened the palsied man’s spiritual sense and spoke to the “Spirit in man” that has infinite resources. Two years ago, I drove from the Los Angeles area to Denver. Nine plus hours of driving placed me short of reaching my destination. Facing a hundred mile drive through an eerie desolate wilderness. I unwisely continued and after a time ended up at a rest stop approaching dark absolutely spent. The only thought I could even manage was “Be still and know that I am God,” but in a while, the words “I am filled with spiritual energy” came to thought and I resumed driving on the strength of that assurance. Next came the idea of resting in action (MBE). and I was able to safely drive to the next town. There were no after effects and the rest of the trip was harmonious.

Thank you also for the wonderful insights and ideas you share on your blog.

  4. Thanks Evan, and all the commenters too. I can testify that Mrs. Eddy was right then and she is now. Even with all the new equipment and training, the healing professions continue to be stumped often. I’m not sure that we are much better off than we were in her day, although some of the real plagues are handled for now, (polio, TB, etc have nearly disappeared.) Still, new ones come along: HIV comes to mind. The Science of the Christ faces the new devils unafraid and has handled even HIV.

Karyl’s testimony is the “still small voice”, reminding me that God is in the tiny moments of the day as well as the source of mass healings of plagues. Thanks to all.
