What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!—harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life.
~ Apostle Paul, Galatians 6:7,8, The Message
Live unselfishly. Sow to Spirit and reap the rewards of Spirit! It’s the happiest, healthiest way to exist.
Thank you for this helpful suggestion and tip. A brand new day and better direction to go forward.
Now this is a wonderful way to start the day. Thank you, Evan and All!
Some thoughts I have come across, not exactly CS, but in reading one can put
a spiritual spin on them:
“I have found through the years of practice, that people garden in order to make
something grow … to interact with nature … to share … to find sanctuary …, to heal
… to honor the earth … to leave a mark” ~ Julie Moir Messerry
“Gardening is an excercise in optimism. Sometimes it is a triumph of hope over
experience” ~ M. Schinz
“I do some of my best thinking while pulling weeds” ~ Martha Smith
“No occupation is so delightful to me as the culture of the earth, and no
culture comparable to that of the garden” ~ Thomas Jefferson
I was delightfully surprised this morning when a neighbor had shared a sweet
note, some beautiful tomatoes and some homemade canned goods and a
lovely flower. I have not been too successful with all of the rrain we have been
having, so was so touched by this very lovely gift of Love.
I don’t know if I can put this well, but I will try. If we want to bring in a rich harvest of spiritual
healing qualities, these are my thoughts:
. = we could plant a seeds of love in our heart,, or any other Christ-like qualities we would like to see grow and spring up in our consciousness. We would cherish them, look after them.,(Just like we would a plant we love and want to grow and enjoy) We would pull out the weedy thoughts that try to choke them, water and feed them with spiritual thoughts and love,, and look
forward to seeing them take root and grow and flourish within us. We wouldn’t have to do
anything else, but keep nourishing them with the spiritual food and water them, and keep a watch
over them. We can let them grow within us, until these qualities are revealed
as natural to us. When we have a rich harvest, we can give thanks to God, and share them with
friends and neighbours.
Thank you Maggie, a beautiful gardening metaphor of spirituality of the whole cycle of growing – from seed (right thoughts) to harvest (the flowering of healing demonstrations).
Nice job Maggie. It really helped me. It’s a keeper!
If we sincerely start our day with The Daily Prayer we make our thought receptive to the right ideas, the right seeds to plant. Knowing that God enriches and governs our affections, what we treasure, makes us plant seeds that will grow into eternal loveliness.
Dear Maggie, thank you very much indeed for your comment, full of Love and Truth. Yes, as Jamie says, it is very helpful!
Yes, and thank you, Carol, very interesting and nice utterances, indeed!
Evan, thank you very much for the message from St. Paul in Galatians!
You are lifting planting seeds into the realm of Spirit. And I am very grateful for that. However, one can also mean it by words and practice it like I did.
I had a high hedge against my neighbor so that the rose of my neighbor did not get the morning sun for the blossoms. I took 3 of the high Bambus bushes out and made a nice bed with 3 plants lavender which let the morning sun into the garden of my neighbor so that the rose gets more sun to get nice blooms. It was meant a nice act of neighborly love. These neighbors also helped me very lovingly when I was in a time of need. I am grateful we can love one another which results in comfort and healing!
You are a treasure, Uta – You are so appreciative of all the good comments.
That was very thoughtful of you to think about the roses next door, and I
would love to know what are Bambus bushes – I Googled them, but
couldn’t find them in our English dictionary. The nearest that came up was
Myrtle – but that is probably not correct..
Hi Maggie. I googled too and it said bambus is bamboo. Linda x
Thank you, Linda – I don’t know why I didn’t manage to find it. It bamboosled me!
Sorry Maggie, I wrote it in German – Bambus. It’s indeed Bamboo.
Thanks for your so kind reply!♡♡♡
Thank you everyone above. Kim, your making thought receptive to the
right ideas is great. Thank you : )
Also, Maggie, your way of describing, was excellent. Lovely ideas there.
And Uta, so very kind of you to let the roses of your neighbor get sunlight
and nourishment to produce lovely flowers. In doing so, you will reap the
joy of seeing and perhaps enjoying the fragrance of them, too. Lavender
is a perfect choice also. Heaven scent! What blesses one blesses all.
When I moved here, Everything was grass…what I consider a wildlife
desert and I don’t like to mow, so I had planted many flowers which,
being perennials, have multiplied. I love where God has decided to plant
them, which makes them that more natural … I love sharing it.
