Where is God

A woman was distressed about all the evil things going on in the world, listing them off, and feeling so discouraged about the future of humanity.  “Where is God in all this?” she asked.  “How could God allow such evils to happen?”

God is not in all that, I said.  God is not conflict, discord, suffering, pain and chaos.  God is Love.  God is the solution to all that evil you see in the world.

Mary Baker Eddy writes, “This material world is even now becoming the arena for conflicting forces.  On one side there will be discord and dismay; on the other side there will be Science and peace” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 96).  The side of “Science and peace,” is a position of understanding the power of Love to dissolve hatred, to resolve conflict, to heal suffering.

Evil is not God’s creation.  Evil is the carnal mind acting out the belief of a power opposed to God.  And thankfully, it does not possess power equal to God.  In truth, it possesses no power at all.  It is not what it claims.  However, it needs to be seen that way to prove it.  As Jesus taught, “the devil is a liar” (John 8:44).  Every claim of evil is a lie.

When we side with God, live Love, and demonstrate Love, we overcome evil.  We find solutions that resolve conflicts, that improve mankind’s outlook and make the world a better place.

To help, each of us can be one of the people that make a positive difference.  We can refuse to agree with evil.  We can side with Love.  We can live Love.

When we live on the side of “Science and peace,” what appears to be so impressive to material sense, dissolves in spiritual sense.  Evil doesn’t appear so real and powerful any longer.  In fact, it diminishes and disappears into its native nothingness.  The peace of God takes over, and hope abounds.

  1. Eddy is wonderfully clear in her explanation of how we are to handle these erroneous claims – SO helpful to realise that , when confronted by these aggressive beliefs we can ‘ ‘, Expose and denounce the claims of evil and disease in all their forms, but realise no reality in them.’ ( S&H )
No good just ignoring the tumult of worldly beliefs , but KNOWING they have no power- because they are not of God and have no substance , intelligence or reality to them – is wonderfully
    liberating !!
We are so privileged , as student of this Science , to help ourselves and others see through the mesmerism of the claims of evils

  2. We only need to SEE the world that God has so lovingly provided and then everything will become pure and holiness will abound until that ALL that we SEE and adhere to will bless all humanity.

  3. Thanks Evan- I am understanding more that the errors that seem to be are coming to the surface to be annihilated. We must not ignore the evil but must deny it and deprive it of any air with the power of Truth. We know what is right and what is wrong. Just like an expert can detect the difference between a counterfeit dollar bill from the real one. God gave us a heart to know Him and dominion over all beliefs in a power or mind opposed to Him. Standing up for what we know is right in the face of hateful opposition and lies takes moral courage. There is a moral, spiritual uprising happening. Divine Love is marching forward and cannot be denied. Truth cannot be denied but will assert its omnipotent power and authority. God loves us and is meeting every human need and will show us “how to go.”

  4. Hymn 5..by Irving Tomlinson……
    ..”with God alone agree ..”
“Depart from sin, awake to love : Your mission is to heal…”

  5. God is in your heart and intent to live with others. The evil that is supposedly witnessed lacks foundation. The only power it has is power we give it to deceive us. But, once that is realized, evil fails in the vapor of nothingness.

  6. Please don’t call Mrs. Eddy just Eddy even though grammatically correct. Mary Baker Eddy is our Leader and deserves the respect and honor to be called by her formal or shortened name Mrs. Eddy.

    1. This is off topic but in answer to the Doug Patti….Actually I don’t like it when people refer to MBE as Eddy but only because it makes me think of roll call in the army or something… it sounds rude but people who do say that don’t mean it .in that way. They are being impersonal in referring to Mrs Eddy as an author which she would probably prefer. I don’t like it when people refer to her as “ our leader” because to anyone outside our church , this makes us look exactly like a weird cult and who would blame them for thinking that?
“Take me to your Leader!” In films !!

    2. This link to the Mary Baker Eddy library article refers to the topic Doug brought up. I too think it sounds weird but I don’t really think there is anything wrong with it. Everybody has their own preferences and as long as they don’t hurt others I’m fine with letting others express themselves in their own unique way. Embrace diversity I like to say!

    3. I SO agree! Even though it’s been done in the periodicals for a while now, I still find it grating and disrespectful. Her full name or her last name with “Mrs” sounds so much better. While we don’t worship her, we do hold her in high regard, and she’s not just “an author.” Think that the relatively recent change is the modern trend toward laziness in our forms of address.

  7. “The devil is a liar”. . There does seem to be much lying going on in the world today,
whose only remedy is Truth or God/Love. When Truth is omitted from the media, or
wherever, or slanted in favor of mortal lies, imposters of Truth seem to take over to
fill the void. Whatever is not part of the solution, is thus, part of the problem. It can’t
be both. If we make anything, other than Truth, our God, our idol – the peace of God
is not realized in our thinking and then there appears to be chaos, hatred, disrespect
for others, disrespect for values of Truth … and conflict seems to arise.
I agree, Robyn, that the “contemporary” way of viewing women is “grating” to me, also.
It was revering for so many years and a very loving and endearing, respectful way of
cherishing all that Mrs. Eddy accomplished and to (in my eyes), degrades her womanhood
in a more “woke”-way of seeing her and does not give credit for her outstanding
revelations that we so lovingly appreciate. Imho, Mrs. Eddy championed woman’s
rights as we all, as being Equal without anyone having more or less rights than anyone
else. In No and Yes, pg,45, she wrote, “In natural law and in religion the right of woman
to fill the highest measure of enlightened understanding and the highest places in
government, is Inalienable, [God given] and these rights are ably vindicated by the
noblest of both sexes. This is woman’s hour, with all its sweet amenities and its moral
and religious reforms.” … We are all equal as children of God and reflections as perfection.

    1. And I’ve commented this before….‘’If feeling distant from God…who moved! ‘’
God is ALWAYS here, constant , all knowing …Love. Nearer than the air we breathe. God, good will always be victorious over the erroneous claim of a mortal personality..❣️

  8. A little comment about seeing the difference between counterfeit and real money. In Canada the bank clerks are not taught the difference so much as they are just educated to recognize a true bill. Everything else is rejected. This is a very good analogy for seeing only the true life we have to live and express.

  9. I, too, cringe when I see or hear Mrs. Eddy referred to as “Eddy,” probably because all my life Mrs. Eddy is what everybody called her. I know it’s not incorrect to remove the Mrs., but I feel it’s significant to acknowledge that she was a woman, and “Eddy” buries that fact. She did AMAZING things for a woman of her time…or any time, and in view of the struggles women are still experiencing not to be seen as second class citizens, I think the Mrs. should be retained. Just my opinion.
