Let the best come out

April 23, 2025 | 21 comments

Are you facing a tough situation or stubborn person that makes you angry and upset?

If so, be wise to not let negative emotions take over.  See God in control, rather than anger and frustration.

Respond with truth and love, rather than with anger and revenge.

Commit to being a healer of the situation, rather than a contributor to further tension.

Be the presence of calm, sane, sound, wise reasoning and decision-making.

Reflect the Mind of God.  Bring the peace of God to everyone involved, including yourself.

Choose to love, not to hate.

Let the best come out that you can share and make a positive difference.

  1. Very beautiful and inspiring, Evan. Thanks so much.

When the world seems to be filled with anger and strife, it’s wonderful to know that the reverse is the treatment and that we can be happy as we express gratitude for all that our heavenly Father-Mother God has given us.

  2. Thank you, Evan! And thank you to Bob and Claudine! We can do this! God has given us everything we need! As hymn 589 says “Rise up and shine”!

  3. I think we can all think of someone who is affecting us like this, so this is a good message for every single day Evan- thank you. Reading your Spiritview posts each night is always a relief because you bring the train (of thought) back onto the tracks!

  4. This is a lovely message and the photo corresponds so well. What a
joyous sharing and so heartfelt. It really shines with affection and
lovingkindness. Love the hymn you mentioned, too Sarah.

  5. Just what is needed right now. Love not hate. Really working on this for myself. It’s a big challenge lol. God (Love) prevails, Now and forever.

  6. Thank you, Evan. I recently had a situation like this and boy, was it ever an aggressive suggestion. I felt so justified in my thinking that I was right and the other person wrong. I finally did pray about it to get a sense of peace. I prayed “God, you’ve got this! I don’t need to muscle my way and fix this situation”. Healing solutions came to thought and it has been resolved peacefully. Every time a disturbing thought presented itself, I simply declared vehemently “God you are in complete control, not me or anybody else”. I also prayed to bless this individual by seeing them how God knows him, focusing on whatever good qualities he expressed. I do wish I had arrested those disturbing thoughts more immediately but lesson learned. I hope to do better next time. Many thanks Evan for your post.

  7. Thank you Evan and all the commenters. This is such a powerful reminder to me both in my individual relationships and in my thoughts about our world today. I am learning more about how to love my “enemies” by seeing negative situations as opportunities for spiritual growth (as Mrs. Eddy tells us in her wonderful article on that subject.)

  8. “The “kingdom of heaven” on the subway” by Elizabeth S. Massey. From the February 3, 2025 issue of The Christian Science Sentinel:

*I’m sorry, I don’t have a shareable link so it may not open completely for you. Maybe someone would be interested in attaching a shareable link.

The pic above brings to thought a family member that would be homeless, due to addictions and other issues, but supports himself by stealing from another family member who enables it. I’m a work in progress at trying too see them, and everyone, as a child of God, instead of the inverted, mortal image. It can be challenging at times.

    1. Thank you for trying William E. 🙂 Unfortunately, the “Share” option to the left of the article is shaded out, which means you can’t add a shareable link (a link that ends in =copylink). It may not open fully for those that don’t have a subscription. Maybe someone would be interested in kindly adding a shareable link.

  9. Thanks J, I really related to the article about practicing CS out in the public arena as we go about our days.

Like the author, I am also a frequent subway rider and have seen some of the situations she describes, where individuals seem to be angry, fighting, upset, confused, on drugs etc. I had one just this morning. A man down at the other end of the subway car was shouting loudly, I believe into a phone, about some perceived injustice or trouble. He was very agitated and angry and was going on and on. I closed my eyes and got quiet, and began praying to know that nothing could keep him from experiencing the Peace of God that was his by divine right. That God was providing his peace without interruption.

I went back to what I was reading and after a few minutes he was just sitting quietly, maybe napping, then he was up and walked through the car asking for money, but calmly, and then got off the train.

Sometimes it seems easier to pray for and see the truth in these situations because I don’t personally know these people, so there is no added fear or concern that may seem to be present if praying for someone close to me or for myself. Either way very grateful that Truth is always available to us to pour on any situation.

  10. Yeppers, I get offers daily to accept or reject that I am NOT one with God.

Isn’t that the ONLY thing coming at us in the guise of variations on this ONE claim that we are called to face : the suggestion of a self-hood apart from God.

  11. The comments above are great and thank you all. I used to come across
some folks that seemed to be having issues, especially when joining my
friend for lunch at the nursing home I would visit her at. Often others
would seem to be upset by certain behaviors, (mortally understandably),
but seeing everyone as children of God helped to calm things down,
especially if staff were not readily there to get things under control.
God is indeed … a very present help in trouble and the love as pictured
in the photo above certainly is tribute to such thoughtful sharing.
