Adopt the unlimited view

May 16, 2025 | 25 comments

Are you entertaining an unlimited view of possibility today?  If not, it’s time to get a grander perspective, a more spiritually inspired perspective!

Mary Baker Eddy writes, “In league with material sense, mortals take limited views of all things” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 255).

Feeling limited is the result of sizing up one’s position from a material point of view.

For instance, if you examine the balance in your checking account to see how wealthy you are, you may not feel very wealthy if the balance is low.  However, if you understand wealth to be spiritual, flowing to you in the form of wisdom and understanding from divine Mind, you won’t be tempted to feel poor.  You know that real wealth is spiritual, coming to you without end from Mind, the source of all wealth to begin with.  And you can benefit from it at any time.  That’s what prayer is all about!

Break out of feeling limited by breaking out of material sense.  Rely upon spiritual sense.  See what God sees.  Know what God knows—infinity, eternity, immortality.  In spiritual mindedness you find the Good Life to live, and it’s abounding with unending possibilities and opportunities to excel, achieve, and demonstrate.

Adopt the unlimited view, the spiritual view, and thrive.

  1. The most appalling limitation to limit God to be useful only to make our personal lives more comfortable. We must fervently know God’s almighty, unlimited power of Truth and Love, the oneness of Mind, filling all time and space, as able to end the terrible cruelty and indifference which allows mass starvation in Gaza and killing of innocents there and elsewhere, as well as rife corruption, and the justification of the destruction of human rights at home and abroad, etc. etc. etc. Mary Baker Eddy prayed this way, so unselfishly, three times a day!

    1. Thanks for sharing that perspective of being absorbed in matter – in the lie we are here for personal gain and pleasure..
When we ignore the “stranger at the gate”-when we are unaware “that the world is asleep in the cradle of infancy dreaming away the hours” we miss the whole point of Christianity , and that is to awaken ourselves to unselfed Christly living that blesses others and redeems us.

    2. Thank you Diane for this outstanding article. I will also add to my daily prayer for our country and the world. We can’t be apathetic but must address these issues daily through recognizing that there is one Mind – God in control – not many mortal minds Hate and corruption are no part of man’s true nature and must be rendered powerless but knowing that man is honest, pure minded , good and morally courageous. I love where the article quotes Eddy as stating,”Bloodshed, war, and oppression belong to the darker ages, and shall be relegated to oblivion.”

    3. Dear Diane w a , thank you for sharing this excellent article !
When I looked at the publish date…1968… it struck home how much we must persist with our world prayers as the evil of war can seem very tenacious. But we know that there is no power or law behind it.
I’ve added this article to my constant daily read list. B.xx

    4. A wonderful article – thank you Diane for focusing on the impersonal nature of God’s power and control over our human affairs . I loved the requirement to handle the content of our own
Consciousness first – before ‘ blaming’ others . Quote : Christ Jesus declared, “First cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.”
      That says it all !!

  2. Thank you Diane w.a. for an excellent article = another
one to add to my collection to help with prayers for world peace.

The help we are given to contribute to the healing of the world’s conflicts is really quite simple – but we need to make the consistent effort to comply – as the article quotes :”Let everyone sweep in front of his own door, and the whole world will be clean.” This is the way we can all help in beginning with our own thoughts and actions. What a wonderful and worthwhile activity – and by turning away from
personal needs and personal sense, and loving God, and caring for our fellow man, this can also bring to light the help we may need for ourselves.

Hymn 179 is very helpful I feel: “LOVE .ONE ANOTHER …. The last verse sings::

“Love now is dawning over every nation,
    Showing true brotherhood, publishing salvation
    Love bids all discord cease,.
    Conquering hate, enthroning peace,
    Love, Love alone is power.”

  3. Great. article on peace Diane, thank you!

What comes to mind of late is hymn 521.
“Let there peace on earth and let it begin with ME”

To handle or cure our own warring thoughts lends to peace on earth, no matter the human picture showing itself as war, unrest, human will, death, etc.

See what God as the source of all Good is seeing about war, cause as we know, GOD ENDS WARS (conflicts of every kind) as we take up our peace work.

Thank you Evan for sparking thought today about our unlimited view and how we have Dominion.

  4. Thank you Diane w.a. very inspiring and meaningful article! I will add the article ideas to my daily prayers for all mankind!

Mary Baker Eddy, writes of prayer as follows (No and Yes, p. 39): “True prayer is not asking God for love; it is learning to love, and to include all mankind in one affection.
Also Mrs. Eddy writes in “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” (p. 306), “Undisturbed amid the jarring testimony of the material senses, Science, still enthroned, is unfolding to mortals the immutable, harmonious, divine Principle,—is unfolding Life and the universe, ever present and eternal.”
Thanks to everyone for their thoughtful comments and prayers.

  5. Sometimes we are tempted to take in the world view of conflict, limitation,
opposition to others no matter what good they are doing. Nuclear and other
inharmonies of war seem to loom over us in mortal, limited views of mankind.
Material sense seems to be all powerful and resistance to Truth, tries to pull us
down in thought. But we need to see God’s Love as being the liberator of these
false beliefs that would make us part of the “problem” rather than being part
of the solution – the ever presence of peaceful thoughts from spiritual thinking.
In conjunction with the very inspiring messages, article and hymns, I would
like to add from Hymn #277,
“Peace be to this congregation; Peace to every heart therein …
    Peace that speaks the heavenly Giver; Peace, to worldly minds unknown;
Peace, that floweth as a river From the eternal source alone.”

      1. Thank you J and Cheryl…
After reading the first article shared by Diane w.a. I find this a perfect follow on….and another keeper. B.xx

    1. Thank you once again, J, for supplying another “spot on” article to inspire our prayers. To be honest, I struggle in doing what is required here, the impersonalizing of evil when considering corrupt public figures in government. I know that being appalled is not helpful or healing. I must do better.. Thank you, Evan, and all for your inspired contributions.

      1. You’re welcome Joan. 🙂 It is a challenge and I struggle too. I really like this paradigm shift of impersonalizing evil. I don’t have to have a knee-jerk reaction or feel “obligated” to “feel” outraged, offended, angry, hurt, fill-in-the blank. etc. about a person or scenario. It puts things in a whole different light and is freeing.

    1. Amen to that Josef. It made me think of what Mrs. Eddy said in Misc Writings (p. 307):

“God gives you His spiritual ideas, and in turn, they give you daily supplies. Never ask for tomorrow: it is enough that divine Love is an ever-present help; and if you wait, never doubting, you will have all you need every moment. What a glorious inheritance is given to us through the understanding of omnipresent
Love! More we cannot ask: more we do not want, more we cannot have. This sweet assurance is the ‘Peace, be still’ to all human fears, to suffering of every sort.”

  6. Too many comments about corrupt government. Leave out your personal takes. There is only one governing body…God. He igiverns and us in charge. Let’s always remember “In God We Trust.”

    1. Yes very true Mimi, God governs and is in charge. We do though have to apply this truth to treat whatever contrary thoughts about government or anything else may seem to be paraded before us. Perhaps that’s what the commenters were intending.

    2. Thank you, Mimi. I completely agree with you. As an example, as far as I am aware, Evan has not once included in SpiritView his personal opinions/views of national and world events. He reminds us to seek the grander view which takes us higher and higher from a boundless basis. It seems like speculating on personal views of misperceptions about the world does little to accomplish our upward spiritual growth. But I understand this is a forum intended to “keep the conversation going.” I greatly appreciate every inspirational comment shared here, and look away from the opposite.

  7. The heavenward perspective of the message today, along with the lovely
photo is very spiritually helpful. Thank you to Evan for starting us off in
such a wonderful insight of Truth with every Spirit View and thank you for all of
the shared thoughts. When we are at peace in our thoughts, we contribute
to the commingled thoughts of others in a spiritual way, which helps to multiply
Goodness in the world. Mortal thoughts come to the surface to be swept
away – like cleaning house of things that shouldn’t be there and this cleansing
of thought, helps to heal and express Love and helps to bring our perspective
God-ward. I find such comfort in all of these shared thoughts..

  8. Dear Evan such an inspiring subject for the weekend…..and very helpful personally for myself at present too!
My mother sometimes used to refer to ‘’ personality ‘’ as ‘’ poison-ality ‘’. I’m not sure it was very scientific but it was a wake up call to break up the imposition of material sense on occasion.
It’s sometimes quite hard to see human situations as a lack of spiritual growth and understanding. We know there is only one Ego….and consequently only one loving principle guiding everyone.
What a blessing it is to read all the comments here on SV and share articles and hymns etc.
Love to all here and across the world.❣️
