Look for the good and true

If there are any people in your life giving you grief, acting hard to get along with, or difficult to understand, it’s an opportunity to see past the mortal façade they are presenting to their identity in the likeness of God.

Mary Baker Eddy tells us, “Man’s genuine selfhood is recognizable only in what is good and true” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 294).  Only what is “good and true” with God, is true for anyone, including yourself.

Anger, stubbornness, blind-will, mindlessness, selfishness, dishonesty, and their kin, are not the realities of God’s man.  They are lies about God’s man, and they have no staying power.  They are destined to be dissolved and replaced with the truth about God’s man.

God’s child is compassionate, cooperative with right, thoughtful, unselfish, and honest.  These spiritual qualities are present in every child of God.  To a material sense they may appear hidden.  But to spiritual sense, they surface and make an appearance.  Look for them!  You’ll see them quicker.

  1. Thanks, Evan, and for Mrs. Eddy! Much to work with in this, certainly for me, and overcoming years, decades even, of critical and judgmental thinking and experience! It gives a powerful reflection and deepening understanding of “Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” Sobering, and enlightening and motivating, to see how this can be so habitually and unconsciously violated, even in all the spiritual “unreality” of our very human tendencies, perceptions, and stuckness. Away with it! 🙂 (Beautiful picture, too!)
