Be wise about what you listen to

August 4, 2026 | 10 comments

Are you listening to information that is helpful to you?  Are you paying attention to words that bring joy, health and happiness into your life?

If not, it’s time to change what you’re listening to.

Mary Baker Eddy has these wise words of instruction to help thought stay in a good place.  She writes, “Let discord of every name and nature be heard no more, and let the harmonious and true sense of Life and being take possession of human consciousness”
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 355).

God gave us dominion to listen to the good and reject the bad.  We do not have to idly stand by and soak in negative reports, descriptions of disease and depressing outlooks.  We can listen to the voice of Truth instead.

We can entertain inspirations of truth and love coming from God that keep our thought in heavenly places.  The ability to be spiritually minded is built into our being as children of God.  We can turn a deaf ear to the discords of mortal mind and keep an open ear to the harmonies of divine Mind.

We can be discerning about what we listen to, and we can choose to listen only to what is helpful.

  1. The little birdie pictured brings a chuckle to my heart. That is what I will picture all day! Thank you.

    1. Me too! We go out for a nature walk every morning and listen to the birds tweeting, which so greatly outranks the other kind of tweeting (or whatever it’s now called). We moved recently to the mountains in Colorado under spiritual inspiration, and we found there is an app that identifies birds, and you don’t even have to be online. The other day there were 14 different birds in a chorus of praise!

Always, thanks to Evan and to all for singing the true song.

  2. Thank you so much for this inspiration of Truth. If what we are listening to
or sharing with others is discord, inharmony, and bogs us down with
mortality and materialism, then we don’t have to continue it and just shut
it off and only tune in to what Does cause our thoughts to be peaceful.
Seeing, hearing or partaking in the mortal senses does not bring joy, health
or happiness to our lives, but the opposite. Thank you, Evan, for starting
our day off in the Right direction.

  3. In reality, I, we, can only hear, see, feel what divine Spirit has established! I see a sweet meadow lark singing unto the Lord joy in dominion and freedom! …Of living and moving and having our being in the kingdom of heaven… here & now! So grateful for this thought! Let it be manifest ! We can stop listening to the serpent’s lie and stay engaged with Love’s angel messages!

  4. Thank you, Evan. Greatly supports us as we go forward with joy.
    I often think about harkening—
To hearken— to listen, hear, and heed.
What we listen to is so important!!!

  5. I often think about harkening—
To hearken— to listen, hear, and heed.
What we entertain in thought is so important!!!

  6. The August 10, 2026 Sentinal editorial re AI, etc was so helpful, as I have been trying to understand what is going on with AI and concerned about
its effects on the world. AI is based solely on mortal mind’s concepts, and as such can be helpful in research of human claims, but when we apply divine Mind, Spirit, etc. and God’s infinite power and understanding, Ai conclusions are not final and have no real authority.
or power. I am being more and more cautious and discerning about what I listen to. Is this really factual news, or merely gossip, speculation, made up? What is the real Truth from Mind, God? Tune it
out! THANK YOU SO MUCH, EVAN, for being a listener of Mind and
    sharing with us.
