If you’re going through hell, keep going.
~ Unknown
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Don’t stop in the valley. Keep moving until you find your way out. God is with you!
There is a lovely article, or Lecture, about this “Valley” which I have somewhere, but I can’t recall
who wrote it. But the following is helpful in explaining that it is a real valley which
the Shepherd tending the sheep in old times had to lead his sheep across.
“This steep, narrow canyon between Jerusalem and Jericho is widely identified as the physical setting that inspired the imagery. Shepherds historically moved flocks through the 4.5-mile gorge where high rock walls block direct sunlight, creating deep shadows, flash-flood risks, and dangerous paths”
The article explained that the sheep weren’t afraid because they. knew their Shepherd
was with them making sure they were safe, If perchance one did happen to slip,
the Shepherd was right their to haul them back up with his crook.
The article is so lovely, and very helpful to apply to ourselves, so that we can confidently
keep going through what seems to be dangerous conditions of any kind, knowing we will be led safely through this valley with our Shepherd beside us throughout.
I am grateful to be reminded of this, as I seem to be walking through
this valley at present. So many thanks Evan, this is so good for me to hold onto
as I keep going.through this valley.
This is so helpful! Thank you.
Thank you, Evan, for today’s lovely thought. It reminded me of hymn 81:
God is with me, gently o’er me
Are His wings of mercy spread;
All His way made plain before me,
And His glory round me shed.
Safely onward
Shall my pilgrim feet be led.
God is with me, and His presence
Shall my perfect guidance be,
Till my heart that peace inherit
God alone can give to me.
His all-power
Helps and heals, and sets me free.
Thank you Evan. Thank you Maggie and DavidM. I seem to be stuck in this valley. I know it’s an illusion but the longer it goes on the harder it seems to be to rise above the discouraging thoughts and stick with the knowledge that God is with me. Your posts as well as Evan’s are very encouraging. God is with all of us.
Yes. A number of us appear to be going through this valley and it is taking far too long to get to the end of it. So Spirit View and the wonderful contributors are like balm. Thank you everyone for your uplifting comments, they are so so valuable. Thank you also to Evan who encourages us along the narrow way.

Sending love to all in the valley. God is infinite, all powerful, ever present Love, right there with you, closer than the air you breathe.
Thank you,Evan for your wonderful inspirations.
Another wonderful lecture tying in this theme is by Lona Ingwerson on the 23rd Psalm. It is on YouTube….you can Google it. Truly inspiring and healing.
Thanks to everyone for their comments and suggestions. ❤️
These are such wonderful thoughts to hold on to as we all navigate
through the seeming valleys of life. But as Mrs. Eddy has written,
“Trials are proofs of God’s care”. (pg. 66-10 of Science and Health).
She goes on to write, “Each successive stage of experience unfolds
new views of divine goodness and love”. We all have our challenges,
which sometimes seem insurmountable, to a mortal’s way of thinking,
but with perseverance and with Love’s guidance, step by step, we
move forward out of the valley and into the heights of spiritual
understanding. I am so grateful for this Spiritual View and all of you
sharing the journey here together and Thank you so much, Evan, for
having this venue for us all to learn by.
Thank you all for the love and guidance I find with your thoughts and words.
Read this lecture this morning and want to share it.
