“A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it! It only takes a spark, remember, to set off a forest fire.”
Because it’s so easy to form thoughts and verbalize them, it can be tempting to speak before we think. Sometimes this works out fine, but other times…well, maybe not.
A word of encouragement can work marvels for another boosting their spirit. And a poorly chosen critical word can produce the opposite effect. How important it is that we watch our words and produce the best effect possible!
So true! Especially all the words relating to “am” and “have”. My mom had a way of always holding a beautiful image of us, and we always felt it when she corrected us. “That’s not like you!” she’d say, or “You are kind and loving. That’s no part of you!” If it’s not of God, it’s not who we are, and it’s not ours.
I love this! What a gentle way of correcting others – with Principle and Love intertwined. Thanks for sharing!
Yes a word of encouragement can work wonders and unpleasant words may drift you away from a loved one. Its very important to think before we speak. Better to maintain silence and say a short prayer when we are tempted to react or lash out. Relations are very delicate and need to be nurtured with love and care.
I have lost a good friend, perhaps because I did not choose the right words. In spite of a written apology, I am not forgiven. Would request Evan and all of you, my friends, to please pray that my friend forgives me.
Dear one,
At the very moment of this mistake, God was All-in-all, all-loving, all-knowing, all Life, Truth, Soul,– her Life, her Soul, her Mind, and yours. Shed any sense of the reality, causality of anything that never existed in the one and only consciousness of Mind. If God didn’t say it, it never was said, never heard, never feared, never known. And God made no glue to attach unreality to anyone, any time or any place.
Love is the universal solvent, and Love makes free. Rejoice in God’s love for both of you, and in your reflected awareness of this, loving each other as you recognize there is nothing else but God’s love for all to feel. It’s a law.
Thanks Evan. This reminds me of the saying:
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
I love it! Thanks for sharing.
Nargis, I pray that your friend will see your true identity(as well as theirs) as always loving and caring and so can each forgive yourselves, and each other. God is love.
Nargis just remember and hold to the thought that “Love is reflected in love.” Your consistent and constant loving thoughts about your friend will result in love being returned. You both exist in the kingdom of heaven where harmony always reigns.
Dear Evan, How did you know I needed this today, even the other day in which I lashed out. I was wrong spiritually to do that even though I thought I was right materially. From a human material standpoint, I was right but from a spiritual I was wrong. Yes Nargis, we all fall into that trap. But it teaches you to use your mouth wisely and intelligently. I wish every one would take up the study of S&H. We all will benefit.
Be patience with your thoughts. Patience must have her perfect (words)
Thanks to Claudia, Laurel and Tobias for your lovely thoughts, prayers and encouraging Truths shared with me.
The original message and the loving comments made me think of church, a group of people – probably strangers – caring for one another in a tender, loving manner. All based upon the truths of the Bible as explained in Science and Health. I am so grateful for the precious gift of Christian Science.
