Are you willing to let go?

July 7, 2016 | 9 comments

“To live a pure unselfish life, one must count nothing as one’s own in the midst of abundance.”

~ Gautama Buddha

It sounds so radical, to claim nothing as your own. But it can be incredibly freeing.

How often has your life filled with stress and anguish from arguing or agonizing over things?

The more we understand the riches of Spirit and that our All-in-all is in God, the easier it is to let go of things that perhaps we don’t need anyway, and find a higher joy in the completeness of our spiritual being.

  1. Great message! Thanks!

I will keep this in mind while working to clean out my apartment.

I like to think about the stuff I have, and haven’t used in a while, as going on to bless other people. It helps in letting go to think it will be used and appreciated, as opposed to sitting in my closet or around my apartment not being used.

  2. Yes of course, true happiness comes from realizing the completeness of your spiritual being. Since we are spiritual, only the resources of soul can truly satisfy our being and bring us abundant joy and peace. As Mrs Eddy says “Happiness is spiritual born of truth and love.” Being truthful, honest, selfless, kind, just, merciful, holy and loving, can attract a lot of happiness and peace to us.
Since we are just pilgrims on earth and our home is heaven, we can not truly claim anything as ours in this world. Of course the good that we do, always belongs to us and is our most priced possession.
When God the creator of all good is with us, what more would we want? God Himself is the source of all good, from whom flows our every gift. Learning more about Him daily, and being good, enriches us, meets our every need and brings us joy which can not be compared with any material pleasures.
Thanks Evan for this very wonderful inspiration.

  3. that also means, to let go of old material views of things, of thoughts that are not from God, that means no good thoughts. Or perhaps all the old stuff from your past life which doesn`t belong to God, and therefore not either to me – let go, let go and let Gods thoughts in which give joy and health and what ever you need as Gods child – thank you very much, Evan, for this important reminder!

  4. Thank you so much Evsn. This reaffirms the streamlined direction I’ve been taking my life. Today I have been cherishing the qualities presented in the 3/30/46 Christisn Science Sentinel Article “Lamb of God” by Hazel Wood also Mary Baker Eddy’s statement on page 22 of Retrospection and Introspection. ” The human history needs to be revised and the material record expunged.” Now that’s liberating.

    1. Yes, step out of the dream of life – and ownership – in matter. we should be good stewards of the things we have, but God owns everything. Thanks Diane and Evan

  5. Thanks so much, Evan, for this….and Thanks also to Uta and Diane…..for the ideas on letting go of our material past. Whatever happened in our material, human past……good or bad…….never really was us and the more we can let go of it, the faster we will realize our true spiritual individuality, which always has been and always will be us! The ultimate Sacrament or Sacrifice is to Let Go of our false individuality and to embrace our God-given Identity! Travel On!!

  6. Have been doing a lot of letting go and it is so freeing when done as stated by Ellen. Uta, loved your comments.

  7. Letting go is sometimes difficult. When realizing that God will fulfill our daily needs it becomes easier to let go, especially material things that do not support the necessity of life.
