A lecture triumph

November 23, 2012 | 16 comments

I wrote a new lecture recently titled, “Prayer that heals.” My motive was to counteract the lack of faith in prayer to heal disease that I feel in public thought at large.
The vast majority of residents in the USA believe in the value of prayer, and they pray regularly. But few believe their prayer can heal the physical body. They run to the doctor first when faced with an illness, and then maybe pray. But their faith is in their doctor and their medicine, not in the infinite divine Mind. Even among some students of Christian Science, there is doubt expressed about the power of prayer to heal the physical body.
But the record proves otherwise. Truth heals. Jesus demonstrated it. Mary Baker Eddy demonstrated it. Legions of believers over the centuries have demonstrated it. It is being demonstrated by thousands around the world today. I have seen hundreds of physical healings in my own personal experience alone over the decades.
Yes, there are times when a trouble appears unyielding, and extra effort and a deeper love is needed to gain the final victory, but those instances do not disprove the value and benefit of prayer and application of truth. They accentuate the need for more of it!
I gave this lecture on “Prayer that heals” a couple of weeks ago back east. At the end of the lecture, a twenty-something eagerly greeted me, striving to maintain a collected manner, but bursting with enthusiasm for what he had heard and stumbling to find adequate words to express his gratitude. He said his faith in prayer had been strengthened in unimaginable ways, and that the lecture confirmed everything he believed about prayer and knew was possible. But until he heard the truths publicly articulated and with solid healings to back them up, he felt unsure.
But he didn’t feel unsure anymore.
He straightened up his shoulders, shot up a couple of inches in height, lit up like a spotlight, punched out his chest and declared, “I feel so empowered.” He glowed with happiness, confidence and joy.
His expression of gratitude made my day! As soon as those words came out of his mouth, I heard angels in heaven declaring “He got it! He got it!”
It was a life-changing moment for him, and from the composed, yet eager, intelligent and convicted look on his face, I felt sure he was in a good place to see fruition from his prayers in the future.
There were dozens of other gratitude expressions too, each and every one priceless, including physical healing that occurred during the lecture. But this one young man’s exhilarated proclamation of “I got it” will stay in my mind for a long time to come…

  1. I remember the first time I got a healing from prayers of a Christian Science practicioner. It was not a physical cure, but something that, by that time, was the toughest issue to deal with: family relationship. From a sense of discouragement and fear I was lifted up to the certainty of God´s Love presence sheltering me all over. In that day, for the first time ever, I had an harmonious meeting with family members and that experience changed my life forever !
And like Carol said, hope this new lecture will be available to be watched from Brazil 🙂
    Thanks, Evan !

  2. Dear Evan, you have line of people expecting to download your lecture.

I do remember my first instantaneous healing back a few years ago in front of my whole family from a severe clue that was screaming so loud and was hindering me from going to a party.
The healing happened when I was still talking to the practitioner on the phone.
Right after hanging off, we left to the party!

Thank you so much for your inspiration!

  3. I do hope, Evan, that when this new lecture of yours, “Prayer that Heals.” Appears so that I can download it to my I-PAD. Even though I have a hard time demonstrating healing of disease by prayer alone, I have not joined in those who gave up on C/S. I realize that it’s a mental change from a physical idea of the Universe to a spiritual one, and you have to work at it no matter what.

  4. Can’t wait to hear this one! Evan, your what “cannot God do” attitude permeates your work as blogger, lecturer, practitioner and surely your teaching! It is rousing the dormant thought! That young man’s life is forever changed. What good work you and God do–He as source and you as reflection.

  5. that is awesome to be doing such meaningful work & influencing others to look towards God! My husband & I attended one of your lectures & were just inspired Evan. We have found another on line, hope to be able to hear this one soon too, thank you for your guiding influence!

  6. Dear Evan
Wonderful to hear these encouraging truths and what they can do to some people. I’m affraid to say that I am one of those who hasn’t benefited from such prayers, neither my family, in this case my aunt who has been tortured by an agonisig tooth pain. Well, I’ve been praying for her for the pain to go, nothing, I’ve given her to read and pray and study some of the simplest Christian Science Truths, yes she did it and she understood them, then me praying, well nothing absolutelly nothing. It is heart brakind to know that my aunt has been tortured in this barbaric pain, which is not true, of course but how come prayers didn’t do anything? So she had decided to go and see a dentist which is much better than waste time in this way. My aunt is very sorry that she waisted precious time instead of seing a dentist straight away and now she would have been sorted. I am affraid to say that these things only work for some people. Others unfortunatelly have to suffer for whatever reason. I know it is very disheartening but I can only give the facts; I wished I could have done the opposite and said has been a healing but unfrotunatelly this doesn’t belong to my aunt and it is sooo sad… words fail me. I hopw I haven’t upset you Evan but I can’t say something else, can I? By the way is there a prayer website where I can pun my aunt’s name down and let others who know how to pray and try this other avenue, just as a last resort? My aunt hasn’t got much money, she is in Romania and probably everyone knows that Romanians are not reach and hope this option will give better results. I appreciate this and thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  7. Hi Paula,

Keep praying! It does make a difference and it can lead to healing.

No doubt, we all have much to learn about the truth that heals, but as we persist in gaining an increased understanding of Truth and how to demonstrate it everyday, we see better and better results.

Jesus said, “Know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” Knowing the truth is not always easy. To know the truth we have to un-know error. This is when healing looks delayed, when some error seems more real to us than the truth we’re praying. Until the understanding of truth supersedes and cancels out the error of belief, the struggle continues. But the reward is worth the effort. So, even though it seems like we lose a battle now and then, Truth inevitably wins the war! Stay with it. Through daily study and prayer, keep growing in your understanding of God’s omnipotence, and you will see increasingly better results from your prayers.

    Lots of love,

  8. Well, I’d certainly love to hear the lecture since I’m one who’s been praying in C.S. for eons about an aggressive health claim, not seen yet. Will it be available, or do we have to hope to be in the right town at the right time? 🙂

  9. Hi Evan
Thank you for your encouraging words. I do find it extremelly hard to keep up with it, to be honest, exausted I can say trully and sometimes rather puzzled and confused. Evan how does one understand the truth? Maybe I have some weak points I still don’t get them and I don’t know about it,maybe that’s why healing is not working. You know, my aunt has already been to the denstist and she’s got an infection and she is now taking antibiotics. Evan I take it that there is no such a think as Prayer website, right? I think what I need is a lot of explanations, I mean someone to explain to me what this and that means, as one would explain to a child who first learns about whatever subject. I think that’s what I need to get it into my head because if I am not 100% sure what it means. I simply can not ask questions every time I come on this blog, because is not fair on others who want to discuss things more important than my very humble and basic desire to understand about God,Christian Science. Well, I do read on my own but if I don’t understand how can I undertand it fully to make manifest what I understand; do you see what I mean, Evan?
Anyway I am glad that I got myself couragious enough to come on this blog and this is a good thing and I am so grateful and thanks Evan for your inspirations and patience. You’re great.

    Love, Paula

  10. What a wonderful blessing is given to Moses and to all of us as well on Exodus 4 – 12 “Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say.”

  11. Everybody would be a Christian Scientist if everyone who practiced it was healed! But unfortunately, I have noticed that church members and devout Christian Science friends pass on all too often and too young as they relied on C.S. treatment to heal them. If it is truly a law, it shouldn’t be so hard to prove it. The law of gravity is easily proven by anyone, everytime. If it truly was a law that worked every time, this world be a better place and there would be no need of struggle, war, chaos, sin, disease, and death. We are only fooling ourselves if we declare that they are unreal if we can’t eliminate it from our experience. It would make front page news every day if it truly worked as promised.

  12. That’s an interesting point about the law of gravity working. Yes, it does work in physical belief, but you still have to work with the law to experience its benefit. If you expect to roll a big boulder up a hill as easily as you can roll it down a hill, you will have a difficult time. It’s the same with God’s laws. They are just as easy to benefit from when they are understood. Unfortunately, mortal pride, ego, fear, ignorance and sin sometimes get in the way and try to roll boulders up hills, working against the divine law instead of in accord with it. So, we humbly strive to learn more about God’s laws and reap their benefit. As of today, gravity is much more widely understood…

  13. Good for the Law of Mathematics/Arithmetic as well as physical sciences they are included in our Educational curriculum and so the teachings are implanted in the human thought.

This healing as Christ Jesus demonstrated is only being taught to students of this Science on Christianity which is in direct opposition to physical sciences, etc. To me this is the ‘straight and narrow way’ and the only way to keep out from suffering. Although it doesn’t seem so easy but along the way to healing we are able to come to appreciate the ‘beautiful even pity flowers along the way.” I am looking forward to listen to your new lecture as soon as it will be ready!
