A few weeks ago, our daughter’s family was spending the day at our house helping my wife with spring cleaning in the yard. They have an adorable 20-month-old girl, which we all love to pieces and are so happy to have around.
During dinner, our daughter decided to take off our little one’s shirt to avoid it getting spoiled, and to our alarm, discovered that her body was turning red all over. Within seconds, bumps and welts were forming on her from head to toe. It looked like some type of reaction wildly out of control. We did a quick oral survey amongst ourselves to determine if she had gotten into anything unusual outside, or with food, but no one could think of anything out of the ordinary. Our daughter escorted her charge to the bath, and I followed, telling the rest of the family that, “I needed to have a talk with our loved one.”
As I kneeled at the tub to speak with my granddaughter, alongside with her mother, I looked her square in the eyes, as she looked back, and talked to her about her spiritual safety and protection with God.
In my prayers, I identified the condition as some type of overly aggressive evil belief or fear trying to take over her thinking and body and deny her harmonious reflection of God.
While talking to her, I prayed to see that there had been no harmful reaction between her and any plant, poison, or food. That she circulated in God’s universe of Love, and there were only conditions and circumstances of Love for her to encounter and to be part of. That if she did contact with something poisonous, according to mortal belief, that Christ was at work in her being to neutralize that poison and render it harmless.
I also prayed about Covid-19 fears just starting to circulate in our community at that time, one of them being, that disease could spring upon you at any moment without warning. Her symptoms had nothing to do with the coronavirus, from all I know, however, I suspected that it could have been manifesting pent-up popular fear that disease can suddenly erupt without warning, which is what happened in this case. To counter this error, I reminded thought that there are no surprises with God, only predictable good and certain health always.
As her mother and I continued to pray for her at the edge of the tub, I mentally insisted that a turnaround happen quickly. I knew that Truth was in control of her being, not fear, thus the charade of error on her body had to stop immediately, desist, back off and leave without delay. I was firm on this point.
I continued to talk to her about what it meant to be spiritual, and how being spiritual protected her from harm. Within two or three minutes, I could tell that the increase of swelling and reddening had stopped and gone into retreat. It was a sign to me that the leading fear had been neutralized. So, I left the bathroom while her mom and dad ministered to her, comforted her, and wrapped her in love. I went into the kitchen and continued to pray and see that she was safe in Spirit, protected in divine Love and healthy in God’s care.
When I returned to the threesome a while later, all was well under control, and she was showing rapid signs of improvement. Mom and dad were doing a beautiful job of staying peaceful and calm, loving and caring for their daughter, and being assured that everything was going to be okay, which it was.
The next time my wife and I saw our granddaughter a few days later, there was no sign of the incident. Just one big happy smiling toddler lighting up the atmosphere with love wherever she went.
I am so grateful for Christian Science. It gives us a calm and authoritative way to rapidly respond to trouble when it appears and to bring out good results.

And I am very grateful for showing us, how you prayed and knew with conviction the absolute divine Truth about that situation. It is nice that this matches somehow with today’s Daily Lift, where the speaker uses the Bible expression of Christ Jesus saying to the devil “Go thee behind me, Satan.” And the devil left Jesus by whom Jesus was tempted.

Often, as grandparents, we have the little grandkids over and ours are all young so its good to read how quickly you recognised that fear is the problem and worked to see it off. I think Mrs. Eddy calls it “taking off the mask”?
I love how the Truth knowing, firm, insistent, cancelled fear about the picture of your granddaughter exhibiting a red skin outbreak. Instantly, consistent with Divine Love’s picture of joy and purity of the real child of God, knowing how she was created at the beginning, in God’s image and likeness, reflecting only good.
Tears in my eyes at the sheer Truth of being. Imagine the day when every parent sees and communicates purely through Truth with their child as our heavenly father sees and communicates with us. I must know that we all have the power to denounce anything opposing God, Truth, Love, Health, Happiness, Safety, Security, And to know that it all exists abundantly. Fear not little flock…xoxox

Wonderful healing Evan. I loved reading the helpful healing thoughts which came to you and how you stayed firm in knowing them. I had a message this morning to tell me my practitioner had just passed on. I was upset to hear this as I had always had so much help from her and I thought “what am I going to do without her”. Suddenly it was as though I heard her voice saying to me “Why? Where do you think I’ve gone!” I laughed out loud at that as it was just the type of thing she would say. That was my own rapid turnaround and I knew I would never lose sight of her humour, wisdom and steadfastness in the truth. It made me think of Mrs. Eddy’s directive in S&H on pg. 421:15 — “Insist vehemently” she says. And you did!
Man was given DOMINION over ALL the earth … including all the “creeping” suggestions of evil. That means we have a DIVINE right to harmony and to the obliteration of creeping evil …. whether in the form of sickness, sin, or death … and that includes the death of ANY good!

Thank you for sharing this quick healing and the way you vehemently prayed. Years ago when my baby was still being breastfed, she manifested a high temperature and started to convulse. It was about 2am but when I called a CS practitioner, she sounded awake and alert. She congratulated me on not being afraid. In fact, I had been feeling afraid but was consciously trying not to put alarm into my voice. Her spiritual treatment had an instant effect on me and the baby. I sat with the infant sleeping on my lap in the quiet house, rejoicing that Christian Science could meet this emergency. Thank you, Father-Mother God.
