A wiser way than personal arguments

July 1, 2022 | 17 comments

If ever stuck in endless arguments with a neighbor about an issue, perhaps there is a higher way to resolve that issue. It may be an opportunity to rely more upon spiritual sense to decide a proper course of action, and less on personal sense which tends to feed a conflict rather than resolve it.

Mary Baker Eddy wrote to one of her students:

“Never deal with evil as evil deals with you. Never return personal arguments to meet personal arguments, or you will be continually subject to their return. Evil is not real, there are no talkers on the side of evil. Know this, dear one, and demonstrate thus your knowledge of Christian Science” (Christian Healer, Amplified Ed., p. 246).

God always has a solution, and it is heard through spiritual sense. The more one listens to spiritual sense, and shuts down personal sense, the faster the needed solution appears.

Following spiritual sense is the wiser way to go and brings the best results.

  1. I try to remember to bless my neighbors often in thought and thank God for surrounding me with His good all around. I was having a tendency to negatively judge the way new neighbors on both sides of me were doing things. Feeling that the previous neighbors’ behavior was “better,” that they were tidier, quieter, more considerate etc. But I am working with the truer idea that if God placed us all near each other it must be for our mutual good. That one idea of God cannot disturb or harm another ideas of God. My harmony can’t come and go based on material changes of who moves out and who moves in.

Loved the line from the MBE quote Evan shared, “Evil is not real, there are no talkers on the side of evil.” Not even my “own” thoughts, which certainly sound like talkers on the side of evil at times. This idea she states neutralizes any wrong thoughts that try to invade our pure God consciousness.

Thanks and love to my SV friends.

    1. Thank you very dearly, J for that uplifting article! It is just what i needed very much! I’ll read it several times and will print it out. The spiritual ideas therein are very helpful!
And so is the SpiritView this weekend. bringing us away from acting and reacting against mortel opinions; and instead through our prayer and listening to God leading us to divine thoughts which satisfies everybody .
Thank you very much dear Evan, you help me a lot with this topic and all the wonderful comments. Thank you all – with lots of Love and a blessed weekend to all!♡♡♡

  2. Dear Rose,- thank you for the gentle reminder to bless my neighbors in thought, and to thank God for surrounding me with all His goodness. There has been an increasing trend of lawless fireworks in our neighborhood this past three weeks, in anticipation of the approaching 4th of July holiday. The explosions seem to terrify and traumatize our dog, and create a sense of noise disturbance in our area. It is so helpful to read your post, especially that “one idea of God cannot disturb or harm another idea of God.” Your words have inspired me to drop negativity and judgment, and to know the truth that the harmony and peace of my home cannot be invaded. Bless you for all your loving contributions.

J,–Thank you for the concise article you posted “No Conflict in God’s Kingdom”. It is also so helpful to me. And thank you Evan!

    1. Grateful to read your kind words dear Linda and sooo happy to hear that you are knowing, “the truth that the harmony and peace of your home cannot be invaded,” (including your dear pup), because God is in control, and loving you AND your neighbors. It’s challenging to stick with this, but worth it.

This holiday is also called Independence Day. Let’s declare our independence from the tyranny of mortal mind beliefs and declare our reliance on one God, good. Blessings to all!

  3. Yep, we can fight with the same tools as evil would use to cloud our thinking. More clouds don’t make the perspective any clearer. Love must shine through and clear the clouds away. thank you Evan for this wonderful post.

  4. The different colours of the houses in the picture remind me of the fact that the occupants may be equally diverse…
But we are continually learning to disregard personality and concentrate more on our true individuality as Gods children. It’s not an easy task at times…but with any goal, how grateful we are to have divine Love to lean on. Yes, whatever the cloudy situation it’s worth remembering that the sun is always shining above those clouds …waiting for us to ‘break through’ and experience the harmony that is everyone’s to bask in….
    Happy weekend all❣️

  5. Barbara your comment raises a question for me. I just have a blank square at the top and wondered why there was no picture. Did anyone else have this problem?

    1. Hi Lori, glad that you shared that you were able to see the picture…. This whole topic has been good for me. And I especially liked what Rose said: “I am working with the truer idea that if God placed us all near each other it must be for our mutual good. “

  6. A thought ‘what was hidden, especially the Truth, will be revealed”. So happy to read/enjoy Lori’s ‘revealing “a beautiful, colorful picture of houses”. Spending much more attention onseeing what was revealed, each MOMENT, than forgetting the good which surrounds me. Thank you Evan for blessing us today with this topic, you hit a home run here.

  7. Thank you, Evan,
This is so appropriate for me. Nothing to do with neighbours, but a reminder that if people won’t listen, or believe me when they do listen, that it is just an aggressive mental suggestion and there’s no point in trying to get through to other minds. Much better to do as our Leader says!

  8. Thank you. I’m always working on this. I’m trying to love the spiritual idea and not the material person.
