WOW! What a statement from Martin Luther King. he was a loving wonderful representative of God’s precious love for mankind, bless his heart. Thank you Evan for your insight and this message it’s very timely and needed so thank you for keeping up this wonderful truth revisited every day in the work that you do. Bless your heart too!
This is a lovely message. There are many references made to light in the
CS hymnal and reflect the all powerful presence of God’s divine Love shining on us,
always, even as the sun is always shining, even though we may not see it during the
night or on cloudy days.
In Hymn # 496,
“Holy Spirit, Light divine, Shine upon this heart of mine;
Kindle every high desire; Cleanse my thought in Your pure fire.”… and
Hymn # 499,
“I am the Truth, there is none else; There is no Truth beside Me.
Infinite light, bountiful, bright, Is ever present to guide thee.
Beloved and free, eternally, Perfect peace and joy I provide thee,
For I am the Lord, there is none else; There is no God beside Me.”
My thanks too, Evan, for the verse by Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. No one can see in the dark, and our great Master, Christ Jesus said, “I am the light of the world, he that follows me will never walk in darkness. ” Sometimes we allow dark thoughts to cloud our day, but like the sun that always shines, we can be freed from those dark thoughts with the light of everlasting Love, which our master proved to us as something we can never lose. Thank you Carol for the hymn references, a good way to start one’s day.
Thank you Evan and All. There is something about the warm light of a candle
that pierces the darkness in a very spiritual, comforting way. The flame leaps
through negativity like a graceful ballerina dancing above materiality into
transcending heavenly thought..
The new artificial candles are just not the same as the glow of beauty that
transforms darkness into light. Spiritual thinking – the light of love – Does drive
out hate and gloom as Martin Luther King, Jr. so rightfully says, where division
of thought which is trying to creep into society again, is replaced by the Truth
of Love with beams of light.
Yes Angel I also love candlelight. Someone once said to me that when a candle is lit, no matter which way you turn it, lean it or tip it the flame will always continue to point upward, toward the true Light, God.
I was grateful to see that today’s post is about Light. I have been struggling with a (false) sense of darkness that is trying to be very loud, clouding my thought. It’s trying to push the light of Truth into the background. I thought to look up references to Light and there are some good ones here to get me started. Thank you all. Any loving thoughts would be very welcome.
Awww, dearest Rose … Nothing can in Reality cloud your thought.
You have always been such a “shining beacon on the hill” and lighthouse
of comfort with so many of your wonderful shared messages here, there
is no way your light of Truth can be pushed to the background.
Some other thoughts you might find helpful:
“There are two ways of spreading light … To be the candle or
the mirror that reflects it” – Edith Wharton You, dear Rose, have
been the candle in such awesome shares, but I hope you may find comfort
in being the mirror that reflects it, too. Also…
“Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle. Happiness never
ceases by being shared”. – Buddha And…
“All the darkness in the world can not extinguish the light of a single candle”
– Francis of Assisi
I hope you find these helpful, dear Rose. Look up to the Spirit of Truth to
rise above whatever mortal mind seems to be troubling you with. Big Hug!
Dear Rose. Your comments are always so helpful. Hopefully this will be helpful. The Daily Lift from Yesterday by Mary Beattie CSB, from Australia was very illuminating and uplifting in fighting darkness and depression. She also was on the Sentinel Watch with Jenny Sawyer in a podcast called “You can count on God.”. The thoughts put forth apply to both themes. https://sentinel.christianscience.com/shared/view/2gn12qf6yle?s=copylink
Thank you Evan for the photo and the thought by Martin Luther King. He was also a great light for that time.
Dearest Rose….Elisha encouraged the widow to believe and demonstrate the ever presence of oil (Life ) there and then in the face of adversity.. Many times you have shone your light here sharing divine ideas ( enlightened thought ) for the good of all the readers. No prayer or faith returns unanswered. You will meet your challenge because , in truth ,all your needs are met by everlasting Love. B.x
This is a very comforting message to our dear Rose,
dear Barbara.. The love shared here is so endearing and
genuine and I might add, Effective, as you had written…. “in
truth (or Truth/God/Spirit) all your/our needs are met by
everlasting Love.” Whatever Seems to be a challenge is not
true in God’s divine kingdom of Love’s ever presence.
I don’t do facebook, so am unable to open most, but was able
yesterday to see the wonderful lecture, “You are the light of
the world”. Your precious being, dear Rose, is shining through
any mortal sense that would try to deter from your God-given
expression of God’s Love.
Thank you very much, dear Evan for these words of truth by Martin Luther King jr.
I remember that the teacher in Berlin I had in CS decades ago wrote to all his students a card at Christmastime with only 5 significant words on it, namely:
“A Light illumens the world”. Immediately I thought, yes, the Christ light illumens the whole world!
Thank you very much Angel, Pat W. and Joan C for your kind comments and loving suggestions. Joan I did listen to that Daily Lift and Sentinel Watch with Mary Beattie last evening, very good. I have the expectancy of Good and my loving God to lean on (the sustaining Infinite, as Mrs. Eddy says). Love Love Love to you all.
Dear Rose – As added thoughts on illumination, Mrs. Eddy writes on pg 596 of
S&H , …”Christian Science reveals Spirit, not matter, as the illuminator of all.
The illuminations of Science give us a sense of the nothingness of error, and they
show the spiritual inspiration of Love and Truth to be the only fit preparation for
admission to the presence and power of the Most High.” and … on pg. 584,
“The objects of time and sense disappear in the illumination of spiritual
understanding, and Mind measures time according to the good that is unfolded.
This unfolding is God’s day and ‘there shall be no night there'”.
I just finished listening to the Sentinel Watch and a take-away I loved from it is,
to “challenge materialism”. Materialism is so forefront these days, even on sites
not expected to be seen and it is quite saddening on ads and it seems everywhere.
Exploiting and making idols of materialism can be very challenging to not get upset
about and to try to ignore the power it tries to give itself, but to rise above it, we must.
Thanks dear Angel for your comforting and healing comment. The passages you mention are very helpful.
I love the passage from page 596 from SH, it’s very uplifting.
much Love to you and a l l. ♡
Thank you dear Uta and to you also. Two more thoughts on light,
“You may think your light is small, but it can make a huge difference in
other people’s lives” and
“How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed,
in a weary world” – William Shakespeare
Wonderfully helpful angel thoughts, thanks a lot!!!♡
Much Love to you, dear Rose.
As I said, the Christ light illumens the whole world; therefore there can be no darkness at all, as God, Truth is All in All. And we all are the spiritual reflection of the Christ Light! Thank God for it!♡

On an old Sentinel postcard.
“When it comes to LIGHT and darkness
how will you draw the line.”
A friend said, it is the line of demarcations between good and evil.
The second sentence on the postcard
was vertical line with the words going down.

What problem has error solved?
Excellent point Josef. Why do we sometimes cling to the mortal view when it has never done one bit of good or solved anything?
