Cherish no resentment

March 9, 2023 | 25 comments

The Christian Scientist cherishes no resentment; he knows that would harm him more than all the malice of his foes.

~ Mary Baker Eddy, Message to The Mother Church for 1902, p. 19

There is no benefit from holding a resentment.
The better way is to find forgiveness through an understanding of God’s unconditional Love.

  1. Just the Angel message I needed this morning in healing some hurt feelings.. Thank you, Evan, for the perfect message and beautiful picture!

    1. Thank you Anne. Yes this one opens fully without having to subscribe. Looking forward to listening later.

  2. Where I live now is wonderfully peaceful, but where I used to live, my former
neighbors were indeed a challenge and the temptation to hold resentment,
extremely great. It was a seemingly alcoholic, abusive family of three teenage
boys who seemed to get enjoyment from making noise, hitting baseballs over
on to my property, where their dog would retrieve them, thus infuriating my
dogs, fumes from dirt bikes, four wheelers in a very small area, paintballs, guns,
intimidation, etc. etc. My challenge was to see them as children of God, which I
must admit, was a constant spiritual learning experience. But with patience
and trying to see them, without resentment, they eventually moved, before
I did, but the lesson of unconditional love that I learned from it all, was really a
    blessing in disguise.

  3. Oh Evan, the subject line stopped me in my tracks! I’ve wallowed this week in plunging down the murky depths of old resentments, and feeling the ensuing jealousies & hurt feelings which emanate from this despairing practice. I thought that I had thoroughly ”expunged” my history of old treatments, but today’s reminder told me I had more work to do.
Forgiveness is the ONLY way out of this pitfall. Gratitude is the best tool for ridding ourselves of such outgrown memories…. which really are only lingering dreams, with no substance at all. LOVE, Divine Love, enables me to stand firmly and acknowledge that Love was ALWAYS with me, that Love has led and guided me forward throughout my life, and this Love/Mind was mine during those old ‘remembered’ moments or actions.
I have clung to Christian Science as my Life-line, and I am turning again – turning, repenting-rethinking in the new way: the Gospel/ Good News announced and demonstrated by Christ Jesus.
Thank you for this SpiritlView today. As so often happens, today’s blog is proof that God knows the ideas, and you receive the good ideas God sends forth.
    Love

    1. Hi Annie. I know from personal experience how challenging this kind of thing can be, but it’s clear that you are up to the task. You have all the tools you need to experience your full, joyful healing. Sending love and support, as I’m sure are other Spiritviewers. You have the divine right to be free of this mortal mind imposition that is no part of you.

    2. Thank you Annie. I loved your description of your prayerful work to overcome resentment. It matches mine EXACTLY, including the resurfacing of these suggestions after you thought you had overcome them. So I just wanted to let you know you are not alone with that. With great love for you I encourage you to keep at it and you (and everyone else having these struggles) will be victorious, as I’m sure you’ve already experienced with certain feelings of resentment you have overcome completely. And as Carol put it so well in her comment…”but the lesson of unconditional love that I learned from it all, was really a blessing in disguise.” Christian Science practice always teaches us more about God and God’s idea, and that is the ultimate blessing.

  4. Thank you Evan and all. Let me share this experience.
I lived in a family home with family members who were not christian Scientist for almost eighteen years. Their actions and activities called for constant forgiveness, seeing them right, as “image and likeness” of God. Although it seamed impossible in the first few years, God taught me how to do it better and I should say, that it became a normal way of life to refuse that which God does not know, and does not see. This line in the Lord’s prayer “Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors” and it’s spiritual interpretation as given by Mary Baker Eddy in Science and Health 17:7 “And Love is reflected in love.” has greatly contributed to my spiritual growth.

    1. Dear Grace, thank you very much for your great testimony how you came to Christian Science, how in the beginning you studied Science and Health from the beginning to the end and today you are a practitioner. This wonderful article is published in the German Herold of March or April. That is such a wonderful demonstration totally under God’s loving guidance!

Thank you very much dear Evan, for your very needed SpiritView today. I must lovingly understand another person more patiently and forgive also myself. As you say, to know us both under the government of God’s unconditional Love!
Am really grateful for Evan’s healing SpiritView Blog!♡

    1. THANK YOU, J❤️
This article is exactly what I needed today!
Love & gratitude to you, to Evan, & our precious SpiritViewers

    2. This is a wonderful article. Thank you for sharing it. The tools it presented are very helpful. This. business of resentments long past popping back up with the slightest suggestion after I have thought to have forgiven and handled this problem, has puzzled me. Definitely more work to do on this subject.
I really like where she said “This does not mean we ignore what was upsetting, but rather that we replace those upsetting thoughts with the understanding of God’s infinite love and with our expression of Love through forgiveness.”
Evan, thank you again and again for following divine Mind to bring forth such wonderful subjects for discission.
