Choose Victory, Not Defeat

This quote got me to thinking…

“Being challenged in life is inevitable,

being defeated is optional.”

~ Roger Crawford

There are times when defeat appears real. For instance, if someone does everything they know to live, and they die. Did they choose defeat? Not likely.

But in the Big Picture, that person will continue to live. Death did not defeat them. Life goes on and death never happens.

Of course, we want to make our demonstrations over evil here on earth, without having to die first. Step by step we grow in spiritual understanding and are able to overcome the more aggressive claims of evil.

But what I’ve seen, and experienced, is that the more we understand that we live in the Big Picture of Life in Spirit now, the less fear we have of death and disease, and the easier it is to conquer their temptations when they appear.

So, the spirit of Crawford’s insight is right, don’t consent to defeat—ever. God’s Truth is true forever, and no claim of evil will deny it.

Challenges are okay. We all face them. God gives us what we need to meet them.

Choose victory and not defeat, and move on.

  1. “The Big Picture of Life in Spirit”! What a perfect phrase. That one will stick with me! Thanks, Evan.

  2. Death is a misplaced word when used to define the opposite of which is Birth. There is really no birth or death or matter. God is invisible, therefore the true image and likeness of God must be invisible also. A physical man is but a symbol of the invisible God and is necessary to show signs of God’s existence.

  3. Someone once told me

“Christian Scientists are sometimes like tea bags…they don’t really go to work until they find themselves in hot water.”

I know this has been true in my experience.

I used to feel resentful over the challenges I’ve faced in the past and think “why did that have to happen to me”. But no more! Now I view the challenges I’ve faced as incredible learning experiences (i.e. focus on the victory and not the challenge) and I’m grateful I experienced the hardship because of how much I learned from it and how much I’m now able to experience peace on a more consistent basis because of what I was *forced* to learn. Sometimes it takes a challenge to force us to change our view of life from material to spiritual.

Thanks again Evan for this wonderful blog!

  4. Mrs. Eddy’s words on this huge subject are so instructional. It is impossible not
to follow and heed her logic (and considering her LIFE, and that of Christ Jesus’, her
Teacher, and ours). Reading her words, I think I have lost my belief in death, mine or anyone’s. Considering that this [topic] is “the great fear that besets human existence,” it is so vital to thoroughly clear this up in one’s thinking, whatever it takes!

Thanks, Even, (once again and again) for keeping our thinking-tools sharp!

    :<)))

  5. After reading the article I gained a lot of strength. Yes ofcourse God gives us what we need to face up the challenges. Thanks so much Evan

  6. Thank you so much Evan – 🙂

It`s so relieving that you write “Challenges are okay. We all face them. God gives us what we need to meet them”.
Years ago I thought by feeling ill I had failed, I was not good enough, I was not watchful and so on: I felt guilty and condemned myself,… and therefore I thought, it was right for me to suffer.
These thoughts were such a nonsense and I am so grateful for a right understanding of Christian Science: it shows us always that God`s love for us is unconditional and can only bless us.
Thank you so much for your wonderful blogs and your love for all of us by writing,… what a blessing!
