Demonstrate a healthy atmosphere

September 20, 2022 | 19 comments

To stay healthy while circulating in public venues, be sure to take a healthy atmosphere of thought with you wherever you go.

In Science, atmosphere is not physical. It is spiritual. It is a state of Mind that man reflects as a child of God.

Jesus Christ demonstrated spiritual atmosphere when he stilled the storm through a few words, when he cured contagious diseases with his prayers. He was not a product of what happened around him physically. He took control of what happened around him with his understanding of spiritual reality. He demonstrated spiritual atmosphere.

We can do the same. Rather than seeing ourselves as vulnerable mortals subject to material fears and false beliefs, we can exercise our God-given dominion to stay spiritually inspired and reflect good health wherever we go and in whatever we do.

In Truth, we are not vulnerable physical bodies. We are immortal spiritual thinkers and doers. We are not sponges soaking in mortal error. We are rays of light emanating God’s presence.

Mary Baker Eddy wrote, “If you decide that climate or atmosphere is unhealthy, it will be so to you. Your decisions will master you, whichever direction they take”
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 392).

To stay healthy, side with Truth! Side with Science and demonstrate a healthy atmosphere wherever you happen to be. Be a master of your situation, not a victim.

  1. If there is no matter, as Mrs Eddy tells us, then there can be no mortal mind, the supposed creator of matter. The only possible Realm then is entirely spiritual.
The recent exposing of ‘mass psychosis’ then can be seen as having no foundation in fact.
The above quote by Mary Baker Eddy , “If you decide that climate or atmosphere is unhealthy, it will be so to you. Your decisions will master you, whichever direction they take” points to man making the only possible choice open to him, being true to himself, the God-Identity. I found the following article so helpful in dealing with the claim of ‘critical mass’ as a so-called power and proving that ‘One with God is a majority’.

  2. “In atmosphere of Love divine we love and move and breath. Tho mortal eyes may see it not, tis sense that would deceive.” C.S. hymnal

    1. Thanks Jim, I was thinking of the same scripture when I read today’s message. God is the only atmosphere, the only environment. Nothing can change or cause us to forget this wonderful fact of Being. As I once read here on SV, “wherever we go, we meet in the Mind of God.” Blessed day to all of us!

  3. I began responding to the blog and comments with quotes from Mary Baker Eddy which you all have access to. So I was curious as to why I was called to bring forth instead, a summary of what is well known outside of this dominant culture when it comes to the “atmosphere of thought” and the correction of “contagious disease“, “unhealthy environment”, “bad government“, “climate out of control“ , “helplessness.”

From the perspective of physics, chemistry, climate, what forms the air and causes its movement and its content and temperature is the interaction of all the diverse living beings contributing to it. Healthy plankton in the ocean, algae in non-saltwater, and all sizes and types of plants on land produce oxygen. The right balance and interaction of plants and animals and other living beings and what they are breathing out create the chemicals that compose the air that cools or warms it and living beings in and around it, and that reflect or absorb heat, and through that exchange of energy and change of temperature create currents of air and water. Minerals from stardust flowing through space that compose our bodies recycled for recreating the atoms and molecules from those that lived thousands or millions of years ago also carry the thought or information in the DNA that forms a library of understanding shared between living beings past, present, and future. Viruses clip samples of that collected information to share with other organisms. Fungi connect that sharing of information and nutrients. In the natural world it’s all about mutual reciprocity of gift and grace in right balance and harmony, teaching mortals on how to correct thought and action. To get with the flow,

The currents of air, water, and nutrients in the soil, water, air, and living beings that absorb and give it back, are all calling us to reconnect to that harmonious unity of creator and creation.

To humbly cooperate with Love. To recognize that there is no separation or “other.” No division or divisiveness, no “us versus them”, no enemies, no such thing as meaningless or inconsequential. No such thing as “less than“ or “better than“ hierarchy. No excuse for dismissive contempt or irreverence or ingratitude.

This common sense sacred wisdom is core to those who live in harmony with their environment calling forth the healing of this dysfunctional dominant culture being called to wake up to living the law of Love, whether by discomforting us to change what we think and do by teaching us via unease or dis-ease or disharmony.

They are all calling us to get into right balance and restore right relationship of healing wholeness and holiness.

So it’s not just about refusing to fear and hate or dismiss others we label as a threat or not to be valued, by diagnosis, status, politics, economics, gender, age, religion, race or whatever, it’s not just about getting over a fear of germs or anything out of control. It’s not just about affirming our independence from the pandemic of pride, greed, loss, injustice and inadequacy.

Everything in the global spread of disease and pollution and environmental destruction and economic injustice that contrast the extreme differences between those the system gives to and takes from… Is calling us to recognize how we are all interconnected and equal and individually necessary, so to unite in love. Love is the answer. The oneness of divine Mind. The law of Truth and justice.

Replace fear with love and joy. Return to the flow and balance of grace. The atmosphere of love.

    1. That is beautiful Edith, thank you!

I woke up this morning thinking about Mrs Eddy’s phrase about “one stupendous whole”. and “all is God from the rolling of the worlds to a potato patch.”
All there is, is God, or divine Consciousness, Mind. I reason that to live rightly in this infinite Allness is as simple as seeing with Love. It’s not always easy to master our fears of the seeming. But to live with love and “Fear not” is doing much.

  4. This makes me remember a statement E van made in the September2, 22 Spirit View. “A child of God is not a sponge soaking in other people’s fears and false beliefs. A child of God is like a ray of light reflecting from the sun. It illumines it’s surroundings with the light it carries.”
I have this typed out and posted on my refrigerator.

  5. Thanks dear Evan for this SpiritView. I also think about the wellknown words from one of our hymns, namely: “In atmosphere of Love divine we live and move and breathe …” as also Jim wrote.
I often work with this truth when I am outside shopping or so. I find it very helpful in diverse situations.
Evan, I still am very very grateful for your yesterdays verse from Tony Evans with the topic “God comes to your aid”.
Thanks Angie and Fay for the articles you sent us. Printed it out to read it in a quiet time.

  6. Some. very beautiful thoughts here. Thank you
And thank you to the suggested articles. I learn so much from them and this blog.

  7. The only thing making any atmosphere unhealthy is the media, aka mortal mind, which thrives off creating fear.
If only people would get rid of their tv’s and stop paying the media any attention, everyone would be so much healthier, in body, thought and spirit.

  8. Dear Evan,
    Thanks for this great reminder.
We DO love to circulate in the world, without being afraid.
This reminds me of our Leaders command:
“Never breathe an immoral atmosphere, unless in the attempt to purify it.”
    (SH 452:14–15)
As we travel with others in the world, may we be alert to
“exercise our God-given dominion to stay spiritually inspired and reflect good health wherever we go and in whatever we do.”
