Demonstrating enjoyable employment

June 3, 2011 | 5 comments

So, what are your thoughts employed with today? That’s a question that came out of my mouth to an individual looking for a job recently.

Employment is often thought of in an economic way, as a paycheck producing position that keeps a worker occupied for a certain number of hours each week.

But it’s much more.

Productive employment is the result of productive thoughts employed. Profitable employment is the outcome of profitable thoughts employed. Enjoyable employment is the effect of enjoyable thoughts entertained and acted upon.

Every experience we have originates in thought first. First there is a thought. Then there is an outward effect. So, if you don’t like the present outward effect you are experiencing, it’s time to change your thought. And a good place to begin may be with the question, “How are my thoughts being employed today?”

Are they employed with fear? That’s impoverishing. Are they employed with worry, doubt, disparagement, uncertainty, anger, frustration, disappointment, or apathy? Those too, are all paths to lack and suffering. They need to be laid-off.

Lay-off the unproductive attitudes in your mind and employ the productive workers of trust, faith, and increased understanding of God’s ever-present opportunity to demonstrate usefulness, value and worth.

Enjoyable employment starts with you and God. God gives you the inspired ideas and perspective you need to keep your thought productively and profitably employed. Make that demonstration first, and the outward manifestation will correspond.

Enjoy!

  1. As usual Evan, this is a deep thought (!), simply stated. Wow. Powerful. And how the world needs this message. The talk of unemployment is like a contagion. Nonstop in the media. Employ our thoughts profitably. No one can do that for us.

Thanks for your great thoughts and deep spirituality.

  2. In the media recently, I heard a man talk about how we as a society need to break the joblessness cycle. Any inspiring thoughts for this false belief? Thank you, Ann.

  3. Our #1 job is to express the creativity, inspiration, wisdom and capacities of God. As we do that faithfully, we find new opportunities for work, new job possibilities. Employment is about meeting needs. And there seems to be no end to humanity’s needs right now! We can’t rely upon old job-models to improve the future. We have to launch out with fresh new expanded perspective with a readiness to move along with the demand of the times. It’s the brave of heart and courageous that often launch out first, but launch out we must to break old warn out routines that don’t work anymore.

  4. I just reread your blog for Friday and it was so timely with the unemployment report. Also, your comment later in the day – that we must “launch out”. The thought of enjoyable employment really hit home with me. Must learn to see that as a reflection of God, can see joy in everything I do. Thank you for that insight. Vicki
