Do you know your purpose?

“Many persons have the wrong idea of what constitutes true happiness. It is not attained through self-gratification but through fidelity to a worthy purpose.”

  1. Thank you for this wonderful message. It seems to be something individuals and the world need to relearn over and over. What a key word is “worthy”.

  2. Thanks, Evan! Mrs. Eddy talks about, “The purpose and motive to live aright can be gained now.” And then she goes on to talk about begining at “the numeration table of Christian Science……” And in the preceding paragraphs she talks about giving up material systems to gain the Christ. The purpose to live aright by gaining spiritual understanding….to travel the path from sense to Soul……looks like a good purpose, bringing wonderful Healing Results!

  3. Brings to mind the hymn by Irving Tomlinson, one of the workers in Mary Baker Eddy’s household, who certainly would have felt the urgency of this call to purpose. Might be a good time to review his book, “Twelve Years With Mary Baker Eddy”:

    A voice from heaven we have heard,
    The call to rise from earth;
    Put armor on, the sword now gird,
    And for the fight go forth.
    The foe in ambush claims our prize,
    Then heed high heaven’s call.
    Obey the voice of Truth, arise,
    And let not fear enthrall.

    The cause requires unswerving might:
    With God alone agree.
    Then have no other aim than right;
    End bondage, O be free.
    Depart from sin,
    Awake to love:
    Your mission is to heal.
    Then all of Truth you must approve
    And only know the real.

  4. Now that’s casting a good light for everyone. Wonderful idea to wake up to discover this morning. Thanks Evan and all for your comments. Great start to my day.

  5. Love the wake up message(s). Loving, honoring God first—number one! Thanking Him for all.

    S&H: P.506:18 “Spirit, God, gathers unformed thoughts into their proper channels and unfolds these thoughts even as He opens the petals of a holy purpose in order that the purpose may appear.”

  6. I became interested in C/S in my early twenties when my first wife, Judith, died from medical mal-practice. Since I was a child the question was why was I born? I somehow felt that there was a purpose in life, not bad but good. My purpose was to know God better and what was my relationship to God. I didn’t believe at all the religious dogmas of any religion for they did not fulfill my quest of what God was until I was led to study Mrs Eddy’s book S&H with key to the scriptures. In fact I found that all of Life’s purpose is to understand God and revere him as Love itself.
