You have a choice of what you listen to

February 16, 2016 | 14 comments

Have you ever tried to work with an individual who listened only to what they wanted to hear? If they like what you say, they may nod their head in agreement and voice approval. Or if they don’t like what you say, they ignore you, turn the other way and go about their business like you don’t even exist.

Well, you can be the same way when it comes to monitoring suggestions knocking on your mental door. If you don’t like what you hear, you can keep your mental door shut to their entry. If you approve, you’re free to welcome them in.

For instance, suggestions that you have to suffer health woes should fall onto the unwelcome guest list. The human mind experiences what it believes, so it is always in your best interest to keep out suggestions that you have no desire to live out and express. When they come knocking, be rude! Don’t listen to them. Ignore them. Turn away and keep your thought headed in a positive spiritual direction.

God gave you dominion over what you think to side with the right, identify with Truth, and stay healthy and well. When evil comes knocking, that is your opportunity to exercise your dominion with full-blown spiritual authority and decide not to agree!

You have a choice. You do not have to soak in evil suggestions.

Like deciding which channel on TV you are going to watch. If you don’t like the channel that is airing, you change it. You decide which programming is going to transmit over your screen. And the same rule applies to deciding what type of programming is going to transmit over your mental screen. When the channel is not in your best interest to watch, you can opt for a different channel.

The best channel is G-O-D. There’s always healing truths coming your way from its broadcasting station.

  1. Thank you Evan!

When my nephew was young, it always amazed me how he interpreted the two words “no” and “no”. For example, if he were about to run out into traffic and his mother yelled “NO!” he would immediately stop in his tracks. However, when he was reaching into the cookie jar for another cookie and his mother yelled “NO!” he would often go ahead and take another cookie anyway.

Recently I was thinking about this and decided that in the traffic case, my nephew’s mother understood completely why running out into traffic was bad for little boys and therefore my nephew could sense that. But his mother was not as convinced that having another cookie was such a bad thing and therefore he could also sense that lack of conviction when she said “no” in that case.

When a negative suggestion comes to thought, I’ve learned that I need to reject that suggestion with complete understanding for why it is untrue, and with total conviction in the truth, to be effective.

For example, a couple of weeks ago I got distracted and reached into a 450 degree oven to remove a pizza pan without using a pot holder. When this happened I immediately rejected the suggestion of a burned hand by understanding that a loving God would not cause such a thing. I was so convinced of that truth that I had no temptation to look at the hand. The pain stopped within seconds. But about a minute later as I continued preparing dinner my left hand happened to feel the texture of burned flesh on my right hand and the pain returned. I was again tempted by the suggestion I had burned myself, but I was alert and gave another “run into traffic NO!” to that suggestion and the belief of having experienced a burn was totally forgotten. I didn’t even think about it until hours later and realized I was completely free from any evidence it had ever happened.

Unfortunately I was tempted by the belief in poison ivy recently too. When that suggestion came to me I responded with a wishy washy “have another cookie NO!” and suffered the consequences. Later, when I was honest with myself, I realized that I didn’t respond with complete conviction when I was tempted with the poison ivy suggestion as I did with the burn suggestion. I gave the poison ivy suggestion reality in my thinking so now I’m working to gain a better understanding of why that suggestion is not true so that I can eliminate it from my thinking.

  2. Thanks so much Evan and Brian! I woke up with concerned thoughts about someone going through my head. So – not only are those thoughts completely false, but the suggestions that they’re MY thoughts – or that it’s MY “head” they’re going through – are false too!

Big “TRAFFIC NO” to all of it!

  3. Thanks Evan. Yes of course God has given us dominion to side with the right. We can exercise our God given authority to resist vehemently, any wrong suggestion that is trying to pull us down. Strong conviction in the power of God, good is important to crush out wrong suggestions. “Side with Truth and Win.”

  4. I find the best proof at times of the nothingness of evil is how the popular evil changes. What seemed all important fades when a new version of evil appears. When I was a kid it was all about shoes at times. My father owned a shoe store and a lot of his business was special order shoes. Not such a popular idea now. The root of all evil was improperly fitting shoes. We watch TV and we see the disease of the month, and how it changes: now its diabetes, stomach troubles, etc. Thought can cling to these ideas but they are just the ‘new kid on the block” so to speak, nothing important. I remember as a parent of young children that what I held to be true, what I cherished, what I feared was heard by my children no matter what I said or didn’t say.. I used to tell them it is not the ‘doing’ but the perspective or the thought behind it that counts. Be discerning not fearful. thank you for this reminder to be vigilant as to what we allow to ‘roost’ in our consciousness.

  5. Thank you Evan for this important reminder. It is one I needed this morning. And Brian, I so understand the “wishy washy” no. It is one I catch myself doing when I should be giving the adamant No! Such good ideas to work with today and each day as suggestions come to my thought.

  6. Thanks, the best is G-O-D. That’s right by starting wit GOD we begin our needed direction in the challenges we face.

  7. I just love the “big traffic NO”. Also, I find it important, as did Brian, to not delay in claiming our dominion over the material lie. I love the fellowship shared with fellow responders here.
If chilesands is reading these responses today, I would like to share with them and anyone else that is interested, I did find the SpiritView blog that caught my interest, but that I couldn’t find again. I found it and am anxious to delve into it today. It’s from November 2, 2015, entitled
Be God’s help in action.” The wonderful response came from Diane Allison. Thank you for your wonderful feedback.
Also, there is reference this week in the Bible Lesson to Jesus and the “mighty works wrought by his hands.”
Thanks Evan for furnishing this format for us to enjoy and share!

  8. Thank you Evan, Brian and other commenters for such a wealth of inspiration this morning!
I love the no and no declarations you mentioned Brian. That is a great analogy to remember when choosing what we are going to let into our consciousness and how adamantly we will “stand porter at our door of thought” and choose only to let in what is right, moral and what brings harmony and peace to all involved. Thank you all for helping to start the day with such inspiring thoughts.

  9. Thanks to everyone for very insightful comments. I had worn out the mute button on my TV control and had to get a new one. I mute not only the commercials but any content I don’t want to take into my consciousness. I was not quite so alert last week when shoveling my driveway after a heavy wet snowfall. I prayed with the idea that God gives me the strength to perform whatever tasks are necessary and sang hymns. It took me two days to complete the task just in time for me to get ready for our Wednesday afternoon testimony meeting. However, I wasn’t as alert to praying about all cause and effect belonging to God, and spent several nights and days with considerable pain in my legs. That’s a lie that should never been allowed into my thinking. More alertness is needed in the future!

  10. Thank you to Evan and all who commented. Such inspiration today and always. And thank you Brian for that link to Diane’s comments responding to Evan’s blog of November 2, 2015.

  11. Today there is big talk about Flu shots to protect from getting the Flu. When you fall for this what you’re doing is getting a taste of the Flu and this is supposed to protect you from it. It just doesn’t make sense to me. What does is the idea of a bird flying into the home through an open window and flying out through the next open window. I never got the Flu and I am 79.
