“The road to success is dotted with many tempting parking places.”
~ Author Unknown
Highways in the USA are often dotted with Rest Areas that drivers can pull into and take a rest while on a long drive. But these rest areas are not meant for long term parking. They are designed for short term breaks.
The same rule applies to life.
There may be times when we need a break or time-out from a pressing schedule, but the parking spot we drive into is not meant to be occupied forever. To be successful in demonstrating the maximum good life has to offer, we must press on with learning life’s lessons and continue to grow and progress.
Don’t get stuck in a parking spot! Drive on…
Thank you, Evan, for pushing us forward mentally – thats good for our progress in understanding and healing.
Very appropriate
Love the title! My mom used to say”:There are only green lights on God’s highway.” But I do love the idea that we can stop at the rest area a bit, refuel mentally, and press on! Love this for a Monday morning, Evan!
Nice comments. This rational is most needed because my actions are not always responsive enough and I need to continue to move on both mentally and physically and I know expressing the Love, God continues to be our guide.
I love how Mrs. Eddy assures us that “Progress is the law of God”. So, even if we wanted to, we couldn’t ever stop progressing! Even our rest stops are progress, even going backwards is progress, there is just no escaping being moved forward on Life’s path. After all, God is our Good Shepherd and is always nudging us along – it’s only we who need to be humble and heed the nudges! Yeah God!
Recently when I was feeling a little down my husband gently asked if I felt like I was going backwards. When I said yes he responded. Think of a bow and arrow. OK. Think about how you have to draw the arrow back just before it shoots forward. Brilliant! I asked him where he heard this and he said it just came to him. So thank you Bevi …”even our backwards is progress.” And thank you too Evan for always urging us on.
I love that analogy! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for this analogy! It seems especially relevant when thinking about church, after watching the Annual Meeting.
On a personal level, I appreciate it because when I developed health problems, when I hadn’t been a student of Christian Science for decades, I had to stop working. After several years I faced the fact that medicine could never offer me healing; it just tried to treat symptoms (and not terribly successfully, at that). I came back to CS, and it’s been a long, hard road, but I now have a life again! I’m doing so much better. There are times when I get discouraged, but I keep working at it, knowing that complete healing is guaranteed – for all of us!
It can be tempting to sit in the parking lot at times, especially when difficult challenges arise. But I keep pulling myself together and moving on, with the help of friends, family, and CS. As long as I continue to listen for what God wants me to do, I know S/He will guide me on the next step!
