Don’t stand aghast at the suffering. Be a healer!

April 6, 2020 | 39 comments

With the constant stream of reports of suffering around the world from the pandemic, it can be tempting to become alarmed and overwhelmed by the evidence, to even stand aghast at how many people are being affected.

However, to be a healing influence, it’s critical to not let one’s thought get overwhelmed by an evil sense. One must keep their spiritual mindedness intact and pray to see the truth about God’s universe where good reigns supreme over man and health is a right to existence.

In telling words, Mary Baker Eddy wrote,

“Human sense may well marvel at discord, while, to a diviner sense, harmony is the real and discord the unreal. We may well be astonished at sin, sickness, and death. We may well be perplexed at human fear; and still more astounded at hatred, which lifts its hydra head, showing its horns in the many inventions of evil. But why should we stand aghast at nothingness?”
(Science and Health, p. 563).

As active healers for a world in need, let’s resolve to not become astonished, perplexed or astounded at the claims of evil now coming forth. Our job is to defeat them, not to become mesmerized by them.

Jesus Christ did not become astonished with evil. He destroyed it with his understanding of God’s omnipotence. We can do the same!

Waste no time “standing aghast.” Tune into the realities of God’s power and presence and shower humanity with the truth and love that inspire thought, conquer sickness and restore health.

Be a healer!

  1. Evan thank you for helping to motivate us all on the right direction. Your article, in magnifying the good Ways each of the examples lay out so clearly, leaves the reader in no doubt as to how important this change of thought is, to quell fear or apathy, loneliness or sorrow.
Sharing, caring and action in all aspects of a Love-filled environment…that’s the wake up call needed which makes us warriors not worriers, each joining Christ in action, seeing as God sees Reality, all harmonious and not to “stand aghast at nothingness” as Mary Baker Eddy stated so demonstratively, keeping our thoughts, prayers and actions above the mist…what a bugle call..Thank you

  2. Science and Health p. 410-30

“Christian scientific practice begins with Christ’s
keynote of harmony, “Be not afraid!”

    Marginal heading. Be not afraid.

    Keynote. Fundamental or central theme.

  3. Thank you for this magnificent message! How beautifully stated. How vitally important. I am so very grateful.

  4. Thank you, Evan. You are helping the world with your love of God and humankind. And you are empowering us to do the same. God bless us, -everyone.

    1. Spot on! Thank you for doing so much good! Bless you Evan! ( and I love what Maddie says “ God bless us, -everyone )

  5. Thank you for reminding us that a response, even sympathy for suffering is a form of mesmerism. We are seeing the suffering and giving it power in that act of recognition at its existence. I think truly loving is acknowledging and affirming the Truth about someone and a situation. Love everyone and the world by knowing, understanding and affirming the Truth about them. We live in the consciousness of good. We are held by Love, perfect and harmonious in Love’s active, joyous expression of Herself.

    1. YES!!! Knowing, understanding and affirming. “From strength to strength we go. What wisdom is revealed to us, what freedom we may know” #65

  6. Thank you for being a light in these times. When I woke up this morning, I wanted to say thank you. I was amazed that everyone was saying the same thing. Again thank you.

  7. This being a global emergency, we are free to do prayerful work and this article is vey helpful to me, Evan. Thank you.
When I awaken in the night, I affirm there os no Life Truth nor Substance in matter, and that God is ALL in ALL… there us no disease only His allness, which is all GOOD.
Know this: God didnt send the problem – He does give solutions to our human woes, tho – when we listen for His divine guidance. ✌

We need focus upon Truth and not error! Let fear dissipate, as we elevate our thoughts to the true and the real. Lets not be upset nor mesmorized by the numbers, material data, since we know LIFE is eternal, and there is no FEAR where LOVE reigns. ❤

  8. I LOVE this sentence above Evan…”Tune into the realities of God’s power and presence” and it reminds me that we keep hearing news people and reports by frightened anxious people on TV saying “THIS IS REAL!”
and every time I hear that I KNOW what is really real..GOD’S Power and presence..THAT is real.. Seemingly physical attacks from an unintelligent matter are NOT powerful and are NOT reality..that is UN REALITY!

  9. Thank you Evan! Love this wake up call! :). “As active healers for a world in need, let’s resolve to not become astonished, perplexed or astounded at the claims of evil now coming forth. Our job is to defeat them, not to become mesmerized by them.

    1. Kirsten I really needed the article you posted this morning, I was confronted with a problem and the Allness of God article helped put everything in order and I could see things as the really are. Thank You for your post it really was helpful

  10. Thank you Evan for your steadfastness & love for mankind. Thank you Kirsten for that great article on The Allness of God. Thank you everyone! Such comfort in a time of need.

  11. Thank you for your consistent posts on what we can do to eradicate this error and keep our thought filled with the Truth. They have been so uplifting and encouraging.

  12. Thank you, Evan! This post and others really have been of help! Just a quick demonstration of the importance of handling fear. Yesterday, I seemed full of fear and was struggling to get thought out of it and the body was well corresponding with thought – not feeling well. I finally just shut everything else out and prayed and read and studied. What came so clear was I need to just shut off the news and social media for the most part and spend more time in prayer. When God tells me I need to turn the news on to truly learn something new, I will be led. Spending time with the repetitive news reports of negativity and fear is not learning anything new, but spending time with God always brings some new insight and truth to thought. I awoke this morning feeling and claiming my wholeness!

  13. The article mentioned above is very helpful in seeing u nreality
Of the physical conditions. Thanks Evan for being so consistent
with your very helpful blogs . Very useful and encouraging for
    Us all .

  14. I have found that not watching the news gives me freedom of thought and never fear or concern. I clearly remember a CS lecture entitled “Probabilities, Possibilities and Percentages”. We have to “accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative…..” a very old and helpfully positive song from many, many years ago. The alternative to regular news is PBS stations with cooking and travel programs that enlighten and educate. Try it out for a few days and it will become a good habit!

  15. We will prevail as a world. Thank you Evan for your steadfast love and support of what is really true for everyone right now. You are a beacon!

  16. Thank you so much for all of the healing inspiration that has brought my husband and I great comfort. These blogs have given our prayers direction when we are feeling overwhelmed.

We look forward to continuing to read your posts! We appreciate everything you do as a practitioner!

    God Bless!
