Engage worthwhile activity

Beware the barrenness of a busy life.

~ Socrates

It’s possible to do a whole lot of things and accomplish little that is worthwhile in the Big Picture of understanding and demonstrating Life in Spirit.

Seek the spiritual above all else, and you’ll be headed down a path that brings good results over the long term.

  1. A brilliant reminder that our Unity or at-one-ment with God, Spirit, Mind is more beneficial & vital, than material business. The calm & exalted thought is at peace.

  2. Busy-ness..filling up the space and time, but just listening quietly can yield spiritual rewards unexpected. For me at least.
    Thank you Evan.

  3. Barrenness includes fixation on texting, emailing and immersion in social media. It’s not very often that it’s productive, uplifting or inspiring.

  4. Yes. I can sense the shift when my focus is on the business of life. Start correctly acknowledging the one Mind

  5. Oh, how sweet a thought. And now the sun is back after flooding rains and my day has just taken on a new twist. Thank you for pointing me in a less meaningless direction. As Mrs. Eddy says “Today is big with blessings.” Thanks again.

  6. “Beware the barrenness of a busy life” had special meaning for me today as I read it. By my own admission, I tend to be someone who is very busy with a lot of mostly career-related activities and had ‘liked it that way.’ Until I had a few wake-up calls this last year, I was comfortable with that mode of thinking and behavior until I realized that it was negatively impacting my daily study of the Lesson-Sermon and my marriage. Learning to stop, be quiet, and to listen to God’s unerring direction, and to let my husband know in many small and large ways how important he is in my life, has been very beneficial to my growth Spirit-ward and to our daily life. I am glad that I have learned the importance of shucking superfluities (less time on social media, i.e.) and to focus on the bigger picture. The result: more inner peace and a perpetual loving ‘glow.’

    1. Anne thanks for sharing that great healing experience. We all must keep an eye out for that pull of “busyness” that may be nothing more than error’s hypnotic tactics of trying to keep us distracted and keep our attention away from resting in the quiet Truth of God and hearing His direction.

      1. Thank you Rose. Oh so very true. As a Christian Scientist there are times in my spiritual journey when mortal mind suggestion continually try’s to busy-me-away. I rebuke and reject these lies.

  7. Thank you so much for this blog today. I am finding that being busy busy busy with church committee work can also be the subtle distraction that robs me of time needed in the spiritual contemplation of the Real and eternal!

    1. What a powerful Truth with capital T. Your comment goes along with something that stood out to me this morning in my study of the bible lesson on Christ Jesus. I get some notes from a friend on the Bible portion of the lesson and today in reference to Bible citation 13 in section 4 it reads: “The needs of people – sick, ignorant, disconsulate, and also hungry, meant far more to him than his own ease and convenience.” What if we all strove for that in our daily lives! Thank you for your comment Billy.

  8. ANNE….thanks for sharing your thoughts. It is SO easy to be distracted by our human life experiences looking at the news, emailing, etc. Thanks for mentioning your change in thought and the wonderful results you had! We all need that kind of change!
Reading the CS lesson daily, hearing the Daily Lift and reading SpiritView daily brings such huge spiritual blessings!

  9. Thanks Evan for turning my attention to what is most important in my spiritual growth. Material endeavours in Noway can benefit me. I am so grateful to be reminded that my Father-Mother governs all situations.
