Enter your heritage of freedom

January 27, 2026 | 18 comments

Do you feel enslaved today?  Perhaps to another person, maybe to fear, anger, anxiety, resentment, a shortage of time, disease, or age?  If so, it’s time for a change.

Mary Baker Eddy writes, “The enslavement of man is not legitimate. It will cease when man enters into his heritage of freedom, his God-given dominion over the material senses” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 228).

Eddy outlines a course of action that takes us out of mental and emotional slavery.  It’s something we can do to make a positive difference.  We can enter our “heritage of freedom,” which is our God-given right to reflect the Mind of God which is filled with helpful inspiration that enables us to live a Life filled with harmony, order, peace, and dominion.  No material belief can take that away.

Material sense is a deceiver.  Don’t believe its illusions.  Spiritual sense is your faithful guide to life and liberty.

No more excuses!  No more feeling helpless.  Take action!  Do something.  Enter your heritage of freedom and leave feelings of enslavement behind.  It’s time to live free!

  1. Dear Sarah, What comes to me is claim it !! Claim your freedom from anything unlike God ! And as always, thank you ,dear Evan , for your always inspiring post !

  2. I never thought along the lines of enslavement, but it is, isn’t it? So claim your freedom, listen to your angel guide, shut down that jarring voice of error and see only what God sees. Thank you for this.

  3. Here are twi verses that came to me from Hymn 66 which I find helpful to pray with.

O perfect Mind, reveal Thy likeness true, / That higher selfhood which we all must prove, / Joy and dominion, love reflecting Love. / Alleluia! Alleluia!

Thou, Soul, inspiring—give us vision clear, / Break earth-bound fetters, sweep away the veil, / Show the new heaven and earth that shall prevail. / Alleluia! Alleluia!

  4. I feel this was written for me as I’ve felt enslaved and how can that be? We are born free I needed to wake up to what’s true living at one with God
    Thanks Evan

  5. Thankyou Evan for this Inspirational message. I certainly needed this for today, Every day is a Blessing here on Spirit View, Thankyou Spirit View family you all are Inspirational also. love to all.

  6. What a great topic !! Thank you Evan
Sarahs , I love ❤️ your question , What does it mean to take action ?

While prayerfully working mortal minds challenges out often something comes to me as an actual action to take , inviting one to lunch , or sending a loving card for example , if it’s a resentment to be free of , taking the action of reaching out when prayerfully led to has been the final step in the healing at times .
Prayer in itself is also a mental action in kicking out the wrong thoughts !!

    1. Thank you…I take a lot of mental action, but notice this ‘take action’ being mentioned alot ….& this has made me wonder maybe I should be doing something.

Anyway thank you so much for your reply.
      Sarah

  7. You’re right Sarah!! I know God’s guiding you and hearing your prayers
You’ll have your own angel messages and unmistakeable way’s that you’ll know thats what it is when it comes !!
And when to take an actual action
For me it’s always less McKenzie and more God , and the stillness and sense of peace that comes just ahead of the healing ❤️‍

You’re welcome !! Have a Wonderful day – Free of enslavement
    The battle is Gods

    1. Dear Deb,
Mrs. Eddy writes, “Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind.
Under divine Providence, there can be no accidents, since there is no
room for imperfection in perfection”. She also confirms, (pg 397 S&H),
“When an accident happens, you think or exclaim, ‘I and hurt!’ Your
[THOUGHT] is more powerful than the accident itself, to make the
injury real. Now reverse the process. Declare that you are not hurt
and understand the reason why …”
I know that mortal sense can SEEM to be very real. Deep snow, ice
all can be visually seen and sure do appear to be able to harm us, but
we must try our best to turn our thought away from this way of thinking
(fear) and like Evan says, “Material sense is a deceiver. Don’t believe
it’s illusions. Spiritual sense is your faithful guide to life and liberty”.
I hope this helps ease your fearful thoughts. Big Hug!

      1. wow thank you dear Carol! This is a wonderfully clear passage by MBE, and therefore I love it. Actually one can apply this passage from Science and Health for every error trying to bother us. Every seeming error is an accident and unknown to God as it is not coming from Him!

  8. In an email exchange with one of my neighbors, she thanked me for helping her with something and she wrote “you will get your reward in heaven”. I responded with the following and highlighted “at hand”:

Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

This neighbor attended CS Sunday School for part of her childhood. She responded with “Do I really need to repent and if so what have I done specifically.”

So I responded with “You have to repent from believing the kingdom of heaven is NOT at hand. LOL”

Isn’t it believing the kingdom of God is not at hand that enslaves us? By that I mean, believing God is not omnipotent, that God is not the only cause, that what a materially based viewpoint suggests to us is real and Jesus’ (and other inspired people mentioned in the Bible) spiritually based viewpoint is something not at hand but something we might transition to after we die?

Yesterday I submitted a comment and mentioned a Sentinel Watch podcast with Honor Hill. I thought in that podcast she mentioned how “new”, not just “young”, is the opposite of “old”. It wasn’t in that podcast after all, but I enjoyed listening to the podcast so I thought I’d share it.

I was struck by the expression of the Holy Spirit that Ms. Hill exemplified during this podcast. Jenny Sawyer, whom I think always does a great job, seemed to “channel” the thoughts of many Christian Scientists during the podcast by trying to pin down Ms. Hill into providing specific details of how to pray that we can use to make us better healers. Whereas over and over Ms. Hill exemplified to me the spirit versus the letter…how gratitude heals…how once we have realized the truth, we can TRUST it and let that trust silence doubt, impatience, outlining, etc.

I’ve recently thought how I wish Mrs. Eddy in her definition of Church had listed Love before Truth (i.e. the structure of Love and Truth). There seems to be so much emphasis on how strenuously we need to “know the truth” in CS today and Ms. Sawyer brings that belief out so well in her comments during this podcast. When what we really need to break the enslaving beliefs of a material view of life is more love of God and of our fellow man. Gratitude for all God is and manifests through us and all God’s ideas as Ms. Hill brought out so beautifully during the podcast.

One day, in an effort to improve my ability to heal, I decided to read the chapter Christian Science Practice from S&H. I thought I’d read about tips and tricks to make me a better healer. But instead Mrs. Eddy starts that chapter out with defining the “spirit” we need…a spirit of love, patience with others, kindness, etc. It’s that spirit I believe that helps us break out of slavery versus spending 3-5 hours “studying” the books. Yes, study is important, but I now believe all we really need is our “daily bread”. And once we gain an idea or two from our daily study, we don’t need to keep studying, but instead go out and live what we’ve learned!

  9. I love our hymn # 64 which, I think, has a certain relevance to Evan’s today’s SpiritView :

From sense to Soul my pathway lies before me,
    From mist and shadow into Truth’s clear day;
The dawn of all things real is breaking o’er me,
My heart is singing: I have found the way.

I reach Mind’s open door, and at it’s portal
    I know that were I stand is holy ground;
I feel the calm and joy of all things immortal,
The loveliness of Love is all around.

The way leads upward and it’s goal draws nearer,
    Thought soars enraptured, fetterless and free;
The Vision infinite to me grows clearer,
I Touch the fringes of iternity.

Thank you dear Evan for your wonderful SpiritView of today. I needed it a lot and enjoyed taking in that Truth!

Thank you all for your inspired and helpful comments and links to so inspiring articles. Lots of love!
