Feeling a settled rest

Would you like to feel more settled?

Perhaps there is upheaval or turmoil swirling around you, uncertainty about the future, or trouble looming on the horizon. Whatever appears to be materially generating the unsettled feeling can be replaced by a calm settled peace that comes from knowing God.

God is predictable good, certain harmony, and enduring peace. There isn’t anything uncertain, disordered, or turbulent about God.

Turbulence and disorder are the products of mortal mind.

Harmony, order, and peace are the outcome of identifying with and reflecting the divine Mind.

When thought rests in the omnipresence of God, it feels settled and anchored. It finds peace.

A verse from hymn 534 in the Christian Science Hymnal reads,

The sure provisions of my God
Attend me all my days;
O may Your house be my abode,
And all my work be praise.
There would I find a settled rest,
While others come and go—
No more a stranger or a guest,
But like a child at home.

Abide in a consciousness of God’s allness and goodness and you’ll find a settled rest.

    1. Thank you for the article Angie. “Can Truth be uncertain?” What a good question to ask oneself! Or can God be uncertain? Well of course not! And this Spiritview topic is timely for an upcoming meeting I have where I can know there is no uncertainty. Thank you Evan!

  1. This is so special Evan…thank you. It’s very helpful personally too as one of my sons is seeking new employment .
‘Pilgrim on earth, thy home is in heaven; stranger thou art the guest of God.’ S&H pg 254
This always comes to mind to still any turmoil trying to usurp Gods harmony about us.❣️

    1. I heard a young girl remind her parents, when she was seeking employment, that ‘the place you seek is seeking you’. I often bring this thought to mind. Xx

      1. Just what I was saying to him yesterday Maureen. No failures , just the right fit for everyone…Gods law revealed. Thank you for your thoughtful reply.B.x

      2. Thanks Maureen, I love this line, “the place you seek is seeking you, the place you need is needing you.”

Here’s a link to the full article, sometimes going by the name “Place.” There is some controversy over who actually wrote it (sometimes attributed to Adam Dickey, Mrs. Eddy’s personal secretary). But regardless of authorship it is a powerful piece and has been a big help to me many times.

  2. Thank you, Evan.. perfect thought for this very minute as our young granddaughter is staying overnight and has just told me she feels sick .
So I have a great focus for my thought right now!

  3. Thank you so much Evan! Your daily messages mean so much to me. This post reminded me of:
    Mrs. Eddy’s writing: Mess ’02 19:15-20
To the burdened and weary, Jesus saith: “Come unto me.” O glorious hope! there remaineth a rest for the righteous, a rest in Christ, a peace in Love. The thought of it stills complaint; the heaving surf of life’s troubled sea foams itself away, and underneath is a deep-settled calm.

  4. How wonderful. It is the most comforting to know that God has only Good in store for us. Thank you very much.

  5. This is perfect for me this morning as a family matter threatens to stir things up from an outside source. I am turning to God, the source of all good. “Come unto me, all those who are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

  6. Evan, thank you dearly for giving us these truths about true rest and where it comes from. We are fortunate to be on the receiving end of your spiritually-guided messages.

That “unsettled feeling” you mention seems to be so prevalent in the world. Now we just heard that today the former Prime Minister of Japan, while giving a public speech was shot from behind and killed by a local man. Even more shocking because this took place in a country where guns and gun violence are almost non-existent.

As you said, “turbulence and disorder are the products of mortal mind.” We all desperately need that “calm settled peace that comes from knowing God.” I pray that for the people of Japan and for all of us everywhere. Thank you also for sharing Hymn 534, it is beautiful.

  7. Thanks Angie for the link to that helpful article. This really stood out to me:

Thanks Angie for the link to that helpful article. This is what stood out to me: In view of the uninterrupted continuity of good, the scientific fact of no unpredictability is helpful in relation to bodily action. Knowing that all action originates in and is controlled by the divine Mind, not by matter, confers the assurance that action cannot suddenly get out of control or lapse into abnormality. There is no unpredictable action, because there is no unpredictable God. As Mrs. Eddy says on page 187 of Science and Health, “There is no involuntary action.” She continues, “The divine Mind includes all action and volition, and man in Science is governed by this Mind.”
