Fiery furnaces of today

I love the Old Testament story of the three Hebrew boys thrown into the fiery furnace. The story is so relevant to events happening in the world today.

You and I might not be thrown into a furnace of roiling fire flames as Shadrack, Meshack and Abednego were, but other types of fiery furnaces abound plenty.

The Libyan people fighting for increased human rights and freedoms are walking amidst the fiery flames of hate, lust for power, greed, and brutal despotism.

Other examples of fiery furnaces include fear of pandemics, disease or contagion. Also, medical belief that man is a material organism governed by mindless ruthless mortal laws that lead to pain and suffering. That is a very hot furnace of mortal mind in these times. Any type of mental persecution, aggressive suggestion, malicious intent, or mortal mind pride and ego striving to assert selfish control is a fiery furnace.

As Jesus taught and the Hebrew boys proved, you can’t fight fire with fire and come out a winner. Love triumphs over hate. Truth is the victor over error. The fiery flames of mortal mind that would devour hope, peace, harmony and health are most effectually countered with Truth and Love.

So, whatever fiery furnace you may walk through today, fear not. Don’t be impressed. Don’t be intimidated. Don’t fight it on its terms. Rise mentally, spiritually above it. Know God is in control protecting, guarding and guiding, and you will walk through the furnace untouched by the flames and unsinged by their taunts.

God, good reigns supreme. There is no counter power to threaten, hurt or harm.

  1. The story of the 3 Hebrews being thrown into the firey furnace and when they came out had not even the smell of fire on them is especially meaningful to me. My father’s factory was burned and completely demolished December 7th 1945. We had the fireproof file cabinets stored in our basement afterwards, and the smell of fire lasted well over a year. It was very pungent! It stands out to me that God’s protection was so complete.
