Fill up on truth

Are you tempted to overeat?

Do you feel a need to snack all day, even though you’ve had plenty of food to eat at meal time?

If so, it might be time to fill up on a different kind of food—on spiritual food!

Christ Jesus gives us a solution for overeating.  He teaches, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6, NKJV).  When we fill up on righteousness, which is another word for right thinking, spiritual thinking, or spiritual truth, we feel satisfied.

Eating food is a normal part of being human, but when the desire for food gets out of balance, lacking moderation and temperance, something else is off kilter in thought.  Hunger may feel like a desire for more material food, but it’s likely a desire for spiritual food.

Overeating happens when we reason that the hunger is for material food, when it’s really for spiritual food.

Satisfy the hunger spiritually.  Seek food that satisfies.  Seek spiritual understanding of God, seek spiritual truth, seek spiritual mindedness.

Growth in the body of your experience will be spiritual, rather than physical, and you’ll feel much better with the results.

Fill up on truth.  It’s the food that satisfies.

  1. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THIS MESSAGE. A BEAUTIFUL TRUE THOUGHT FOR US TO KEEP HANDY. SPIRITUAL THINKING IS SO FREEING OF WHATEVER WEIGHS ME DOWN OR HOLDS ME BACK FROM DOING MY BEST. BEYOND THE SKY IS THE LIMIT, LIMITLESS WITH GOD’S HELP.

  2. Thank you so much, as always, for taking the time to give us this
Daily Bread of Truth and inspiration, Evan. It is so much appreciated.
The term, “comfort food” applies here – where sometimes there
seems to be a void in our lives that we try to fill with food that is
comforting. But it is not truly fulfilling like the spiritual pearls of
wisdom that you mention that is spiritual and comes without
calories or physical nutrition. It fills us with the Spirit of God’s
presence and that is such a wonderful feeling of True fulfillment.

  3. With are impending arrival of our Canadian Thanksgiving this is wise advice. Most folks think this holiday is all about the bountiful harvest of food and look forward to or dread the idea of eating so much.
If we change our thought to the idea that this holiday is all about gratitude and not so much about feasting materially we will find the feast of eternal life and the satisfying gratitude that goes along with it. We can still enjoy a good Thanksgiving meal with friends and family but we can curb the material lust for food by keeping our thought on the basic reason for Thanksgiving. Happy 2026 Thanksgiving to our Canadian friends and later to our American ones

  4. WOW!!! This was just wonderful, Evan!! Brilliant actually !!! Thank you!!!!! Spiritual food satisfies!!
I have forgotten what Mary Baker Eddy, (maybe someone else can remember ?) but it was a lovely little saying about food that Mrs.Eddy had engraved on a tiny silver teaspoon at one time.

    1. As Mrs. Eddy says, “Not matter, but Mind, satisfieth.”
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 679:19–20)
