Are you hungry all the time? Eating more food than you need? If so, take heart, for there’s a cure.
Jesus Christ gave us a solution for dissolving unnecessary hunger in his beatitude, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6, NKJV).
The human mind is often educated to believe that every sensation of hunger is a call to eat more food. But in a society where food is abundant and easy to consume, this may be a gross deception. The “hunger” is often not a call for more material food, but for spiritual food. For spiritual mindedness!
This type of hunger is to know God better. It is a call to feel God’s presence, to be comforted by God’s love, and to experience the peace of mind and heavenly contentment that abide with knowing and feeling God’s truth and love.
Be wise about hunger pangs. Be discerning. Instead of mistakenly believing that every hunger pang is a call to eat more food, discern whether it’s really a call for more spiritual food.
If you’ve already had plenty of food, and it’s obvious you don’t need to be eating more material food, make the right decision. Seek spiritual mindedness instead of chips and crackers in the kitchen. Fill up on spiritual truth! You’ll be much happier with the result.
Love this so much Evan, thank you!❣️
Thanks Evan – I did not receive my email and when I went to website – the site would not come up at all was in error until now
Sharing how you pursued Truth, as error was tempted to interfere helped me see the path which Evan clarified, The next snack isn’t “IT”, Could be a temptation, could be a desire, could be human intelligence seeking “first place”. Then error scurried away, not bothered by the TRUTH; because Truth was the way forward. Another way of saying pray more, and eat less. Today I have seen TRUTH in action as we had a new garage door installed, for which we were very happy, all done before the afternoon ended. Corrections seem minor which will be corrected on another day, and with gratitude I am grateful they were mostly mis-alignments ONLY.!!!
Obrigada pois só o Espírito divino nos satisfais nos alimenta
could someone please translates these words. i suppose it’s French.
Portuguese!
Thank you, for only the divine Spirit satisfies and nourishes us.
(Google Translate -I don’t speak Portuguese)
thank you Debbie!
when thinking at nourishment in a mental way, i know and feel satisfied when I study the weekly lesson sermon.
In chapter 6 of the sermon on the Mount Jesus says that we shall not care what we shall eat or drink. And in verse 13 he says that we shall first look to God’s kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given unto us as God’s children, for our Father knows exactly that we need all these things. And Mrs. Eddy says, divine Love has always met and always will meet every human need. Wow, isn’t that a lot and very very comforting? Thank you God for your endless Goodness!
Thank you very much dear Evan for this weekend’s SpiritView ♡
I’m thankful for all inspired comments! ♡
Thank you, Evan. Your inspiring words can easily be applied to any false desire to reach for more matter. A greater understanding of God and our relationship to him as His reflection is always needed and answers every prayer.
Thanks very much for this helpful sharing. .
Thanks for this insight!
The heart needs its rightful nutrition. Peace, patience in tribulation and a priceless sense of the Dear Fathers

Thank you so much Evan! Interesting that I had just resolved to cut down on material food intake not more than two or three days ago, and now I’m reading your wonderful message about food and hunger.
I have read CS testimonies in past years where the person suffered, sometimes greatly, from eating. Various digestion disorders, etc. They were completely healed, and as an additional blessing, their desire for material food became less.
Love this! Loving, practical, wise and harmless! Thank you!
I commented on this but it appeared on yesterday’s post. This is very helpful Evan, thanks you
Whenever I have felt this challenge, I think of the term “carnal mindedness”. In Spanish, the word ‘carne’ means ‘meat,’ so I remind myself not to be a meathead and to walk out of the kitchen and go for a walk instead. That’s a way to humor myself.
Way too funny, Wendy, Super turning the meaning of “carne” into the ‘REMINDER’ for all time, with the best action to resolve, and WALK AWAY SATISFIED. Helpful, when tempted to eat more and pray less. I LIKE pray MORE and eat LESS. OK maybe ONLY one piece of chocolate occasionally.,
Mrs. Eddy’s interpretation of “Give us this day our daily bread” from the
Lord’s Prayer is “Give us grace for today; feed the famished affections”.
This is our true spiritual food, the grace of God, being filled with Love’s
,provisions, truly nourishes us . And we can take as much of this food as we
like, and it can only do us more and more good, and cannot harm us. And
we can accept as much as we like also to share with others, because it is unlimited.
Whereas material food can tempt us to “have just one more helping”
and perhaps even another one! when we don’t really need it. And material
false laws can produce unwanted and unpleasant discordant conditions.
The food of Love is completely free, and we have it available at all times
and we know that it meets all our needs.
Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah, / Pilgrim through this barren land: / I am Thine, and Thou art mighty, / Hold me with Thy powerful hand. / Bread of heaven! Bread of heaven! / Feed me now and evermore.
(Christian Science Hymnal, No. 90:1)
Beautiful hymn, Maggie. Thank you, I really appreciate this reminder.
Thankyou Evan, just what I needed to hear. Give us this day our daily bread ,he gives us what we need for the day and we’re satisfied.
thankyou to all for your inspiring comments.
Oh my goodness, thank you – this was PRECISELY what I needed to see today. 100% RELIEF.
Reminds me of what Jesus said in His Sermon on the Mount, “Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat or drink” – reminded us that since God provides and guides, we do not need to resort to excess or desperation.

Thank you, Evan.
I could not get on to Spiritview either for a lot of yesterday. Oh my goodness, how I missed you all. So glad it is back up and running this morning. Thank you for your wonderful words of Truth, Evan.
This could apply to any “false appetites”, couldn’t it. Believing in and
worshipping matter gods and gorging oneself on materiality – the senses.
Thank you Evan for your spiritual inspiration.
A practitioner once told me “feed hunger, not appetite”. I took this to heart and, thereafter, every time I had the urge to eat something, I would remind myself of this and examine why I wanted to eat. Very often the reason had nothing to do with hunger so I didn’t “cave in” to the urge of “appetite”. Within a relatively short time, I lost 15lbs.
Mary Baker Eddy mentioned what she called the small pleasures of the table. But she did say that food should be wholesome, skillfully prepared, and include variety. However, the greatest ingredient to her was an unction of love. People equate favorite dishes with loving family get togethers, but we need to be aware, that more and more food is being made in a laboratory. Just as bars serve salty pretzels for free to make patrons order more beers, many processed foods are formulated to make you want more food or drinks. Wholesome does matter, but we can know that the reason we choose wholesome foods, is that it reflects the spiritual fact that our true nourishment comes from God, through thoughts of love that satisfy and fill our hearts with joy.
