For Today

February 7, 2012 | 3 comments

O God:
Give me strength to live another day;
Let me not turn coward before its difficulties;
Let me not lose faith in other people;
Keep me sweet and sound of heart,
In spite of ingratitude, treachery, or meanness;
Preserve me from minding little stings or giving them;
Help me to keep my heart clean,
And so to live so honestly and fearlessly
That no outward failure can dishearten me or take
away the joy of conscious integrity;
Open wide the eyes of my soul
that I may see good in all things;
Grant me this day some new vision of thy truth;
Inspire me with the spirit of joy and gladness;
And make me the cup of strength to suffering souls;
In the name of the strong Deliverer,
Our only Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

  1. Thank you for that beautiful prayer, Evan. I’m going to have to do something today that is causing me great fear, and I’m sure the prayer’s message will help. sas

  2. Evan dear:

    Thank you sooo much for this lovely prayer and for the photographs you pair with your ‘thought-gifts’ to us.

    I am reminded of a specific idea that may help your Anonymous commentator: We are familiar with the Bible passage, ‘Perfect Love casteth out fear’ but I wanted to go deeper with this truth. I was led to an older dictionary that defined the word perfect with the phrase, “fully informed”. So, ‘fully informed Love casteth out fear.’ Part of fear includes the unknown, but with ‘fully informed’ Love guiding one, the fear has to dissolve replaced with this divine intelligence and our confidence in this wisdom. I hope this helps us all rejoice in our at-one-ment with this ‘fully informed’ divine Love. Bless you dear…….
