Getting the facts straight

One of the most provocative statements of truth in Christian Science is that disease is a lie; that it’s not the reality it appears to be. Science explains that suffering is a temporary phenomenon of the human mind that can be removed with spiritual truth. And this leads to physical healing.
Naysayers of Christian Science who don’t understand its teachings will belittle and deride its affirmation that disease is not real. And this is unfortunate, for it deprives them of the benefit that comes from understanding the unreality of disease in light of God’s omnipresence and omnipotence.
I have a friend who learned this lesson from experience.
When he was an older teenager, he developed horrible allergies that made three months of every spring hell for him. The doctors did everything they knew to help, but to no avail. They gave him antihistamines to alleviate the suffering, but declared the condition incurable. He would have to suffer the rest of his life, they said. He accepted their decree and moved on.
Thirty-five years later, in an effort to find some spiritual healing in his life, he discovered Christian Science.
He read Science and Healthand was enthralled to read Eddy’s statements about the unreality of disease in light of the eternal health and life bestowed upon him by God. This was news to him! He thought he had a life-long illness to carry around. But not according to Eddy. It was a lie about him. He could be healed of it.
He took the teachings to heart.
As he put the ideas of Christian Science into practice, he gained faith in God’s ability to heal him spiritually. After several months, he decided to throw out all his medicines and rely solely upon Spirit for health.
And guess what? It worked.
He went through his first spring with no more suffering, then another, and another, and several more since then. He found his health again.
He was so happy and felt so free.
He has had many other physical healings in Christian Science over the last few years. And he is grateful for the progress.
But for the healing to happen, he had to see that the doctors’ original pronouncement of “incurable,” was a lie. It wasn’t true. It was curable. And spiritual truth was the cure. Once he got that figured out, he found his health and strength again.
You can too.
“Ignorant of our God-given rights, we submit to unjust decrees, and the bias of education enforces this slavery. Be no more willing to suffer the illusion that you are sick or that some disease is developing in the system, than you are to yield to a sinful temptation on the ground that sin has its necessities.”

~Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. 381.

  1. Thanks for these insights on healing. My son told me the other day he was no longer afraid of zombies. When I asked him why, he told me it was because it took twenty four hours for the virus to activate, and he could escape by then. It was so clear to me in that moment that the human mind assumes the reality of the mental picture and then tries to fix it humanly, instead of seeing the mental picture as an illusion. You don’t have to fix an objective reality, you only have to deal subjectively with your own consciousness. Wipe the dirt off the lens of the projector, and you won’t waste time trying to wipe it off the screen.Pease keep the healing insights coming. Bless you and thank you.

  2. Thank you for sharing. I had a very similar healing many years ago when I was very new to Christian Science. I remembered reading in Science and Health how something as beautiful as a flower should not cause us discomfort and that helped me to see the light! Love the picture of the flowers.

  3. I did not specifically pray for a physical healing of allergy which I had for years. But I have religiously delved into the study of Christian Study. This year, the media is saying that the last 2 years were the worst outbreaks of allergies yet, but it didn’t bother me.
