Go ahead and prove it

March 28, 2025 | 31 comments

I chuckled when a friend shared a saying he picked up from a fortune cookie.  It read,

You are good, you are happy, and you are free.  Prove it!

I like the “Prove it!” part.

It’s not enough to repeat spiritual truths in our mind.  We must live them.  We must prove they are true through our actions.

God made you intelligent, competent, wise, able and capable.  Go ahead and prove it today!  You can, because it’s who you are.

  1. So insightful, powerful, helpful, inspiring, comforting, lovely, etc. etc… Thank you
so much, dear Evan, and all, as I have a challenge today that I can Prove God
being in control and write on that fortune … how grateful I am that everything will
work out in a smooth, easy way, where anxiety wants to try to rule the day. God
already has everything planned for a peaceful outcome and I can see the writing
    on that fortune, that
    All is Well.
It is truly so lovely to have the spiritual support here as I, We, go through our day(s).
Thank you, with all my heart!!!
    : )

    1. Thanks Carol, for your clear thinking. Reminds me of our topic here from two days ago about how God knows the end from the beginning -and it is good,

We can all write ‘All is Well’ on our fortune cookie.

“We are good, we are happy and we are free.” God knows it and helps us prove it.

So good to be here on SV in the company of Truth.

      1. Thank you, dear Rose. All was well today. Every time when
the thought came that maybe it wasn’t, the Truth of God’s
Love shone through and countered with proof of a good
outcome. It is a very freeing feeling.

      2. Thank you, Rose, I love “ in the company of Truth”, also God help us to PROVE IT!
Thank you, Carol, you are a brave soldat in Christ and
Whatever bothers you and also sometimes all of us, cannot stick and Stay in our mental screen forever, because like Eddy says the love of God is like a baum that brings and nourish our Spirit.
Thanks to all inspiring writers and Evan for the eternal vetities.

        1. Thank you for your kind words, dear Pp. Although the
issue is not yet totally resolved, the urgency has lessened
and I am finding peace with it this weekend. One of the
hymns that I found very helpful was #190:

“My God, my Father, make me strong,
When tasks of life seem hard and long,
To greet them with this triumph song,
          Thy will be done.
          With confident and humble mind,
My joy in service I would find,
My prayer through every task assigned
Thy will be done … ”

I have felt the help and “service” and with
God/Love’s ever presence, so kindly … and
Knowing it is in God’s hands is a good feeling
and I am very grateful for the good already
          unfolded.

  2. Evan, Thanks for this reminder. We have a lot of opportunities to “go ahead and prove it” on daily basis. These letters from Miscellany, pages 241 and 242, have come to mind:
    Instruction by Mrs. Eddy
We are glad to have the privilege of publishing an extract from a letter to Mrs. Eddy, from a Christian Scientist in the West, and Mrs. Eddy’s reply thereto. The issue raised is an important one and one upon which there should be absolute and correct teaching. Christian Scientists are fortunate to receive instruction from their Leader on this point. The question and Mrs. Eddy’s reply follow.
“Last evening I was catechized by a Christian Science practitioner because I referred to myself as an immortal idea of the one divine Mind. The practitioner said that my statement was wrong because I still lived in the flesh. I replied that I did not live in my flesh, that my flesh lived or died according to the belief I entertained about it; but that, after coming to the light of Truth, I had found that I lived and moved and had my being in God, and to obey Christ was not to know as real the beliefs of an earthly mortal. Please give the truth in the Sentinel, so that all may know it.”
    Mrs. Eddy´s reply
“You are scientifically correct in your statement about yourself. You can never demonstrate spirituality until you declare yourself to be immortal and understand that you are so. Christian Science is absolute; it is neither behind the point of perfection nor advancing toward it; it is at this point and must be practiced therefrom. Unless you fully perceive that you are the child of God, hence perfect, you have no Principle to demonstrate and no rule for its demonstration. By this I do not mean that mortals are the children of God, — far from it. In practicing Christian Science you must state its Principle correctly, or you forfeit your ability to demonstrate it.”

    1. Thank you Harmony. Sadly, I’ve also had the experience of other Christian Scientists trying to convince me that in to some material belief, so thank you for sharing this. We need to be alert at all times…even when with other Christian Scientists.

  3. This is delightful!
I always love how the conversation develops after Evan has introduced the “ theme.”
This isn’t particularly metaphysical, but i I remember the song from childhood :
“ if you’re happy, and you know it, clap, your hands!
If you’re happy, and you know, it, clap your hands…
if you’re happy, and you know it,
Then your face will surely show it…”
It’s silly, but it does the trick!

It is true, that we must be especially diligent at proving we ARE good brcause Good/ God IS All-in-all!

    Love

  4. Evan, your thought for today reminded me of a fortune cookie I received which said “You are in your right place”. I am in Broadview a Christian Science Nursing Facility in Los Angeles, California. It is definitely my right place for now,

  5. There’s a saying that “a picture is worth a thousand words.” I’ve coined a new phrase of “an example is worth million words” or “an example is worth a thousand pictures”. So for those wondering “exactly how do I ‘prove it'” let me give you a few examples. 🙂

I live in a forest on over an acre and one year a feral cat gave birth to some kittens somewhere on our property. After the mother weaned the kittens the mother left but the kittens stayed and my wife lured them into our house with some cat food. The two kittens enjoyed the food and then started playing in our house and, being curious, they ended up finding an opening and getting into one of our HVAC ducts. We knew if they continued to go into the duct they might get stuck so I put on a glove and reached in and grabbed the kittens one by one to remove them. The first kitten to be removed wasn’t too happy, but he didn’t put up much of a fight. But the second kitten came out with his paws spread wide and his claws extended swiping at me and showing all of his teeth. This kitten was fighting with everything he had to get free of my grasp. I thought it was interesting how one kitten just seemed to accept his fate of being in my grasp while the other kitten tried with all of his strength to get free.

I thought of these two kittens yesterday when I read this statement from S&H:

Instead of blind and calm submission to the incipient or advanced stages of disease, rise in rebellion against them. Banish the belief that you can possibly entertain a single intruding pain which cannot be ruled out by the might of Mind, and in this way you can prevent the development of pain in the body. No law of God hinders this result.
(Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy, p. 391:7–13)

Then today in the Bible Lesson for this week I noticed this citation:

Lulled by stupefying illusions, the world is asleep in the cradle of infancy, dreaming away the hours. Material sense does not unfold the facts of existence; but spiritual sense lifts human consciousness into eternal Truth. (S&H 95:28)

It occurred to me how often I allow myself to be lulled into accepting some discord as “real” or “my fate for the moment” instead of fighting with all of my mental might to rebel against those type of lies. For example, one time I took a step and a sharp pain shot through my foot. The pain was so bad the color in my face left and my wife asked “what happened?” But in this case, I immediately recognized this not as having “broken some material law” but as “an aggressive mental suggestion” and I refused with all of my might to give in and stop using my foot as normally as I could. I continued walking and doing everything I normally would in spite of the pain for about 2 days, while praying the entire time as described in the citation above (knowing that God didn’t cause a discordant foot condition and therefore I couldn’t experience something that God, Love, never created), And I don’t want to give the impression I was just using human will here by continuing to use my foot as if there was no pain. I really knew in my heart this was just an aggressive mental suggestion (not a problem with a material foot) so I treated it that way in my thinking and actions. During the second night I woke up and was praying and I became “conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well” (Science and Health, p. 14). I went back to sleep and the next morning I woke up and hopped out of bed and my foot was perfectly fine. About 5 minutes went by before I remembered how painful the foot had been the prior two days. Then I remembered how, just for a moment, the prior night I’d become 100% conscious that I was spiritual, not material, and therefore couldn’t suffer from a material discordant foot. And again, it was just for a moment I realized that clearly, but that’s all it took for me to be free from that moment on.

I’d like to say that I’ve had other experiences where I’ve not been so alert to something being an “aggressive mental suggestion” and instead I’ve believed there was something wrong with a material body that I’m living in and by accepting that false belief I’ve ended up living with some discord for a lengthy amount of time…until I eventually woke up to the fact the discord was just a false mental suggestion…or a lie about my true God reflected identity.

The Daily Lift today also illustrates how refusing with everything you have to accept a discordant condition helps to free you from that condition. Notice how John Biggs’ brother refused with all his mental might to reject the claim of a rugby injury. As John put it, his brother had an “insistent sense of no!” You can listen to the Daily Lift by clicking on the link below:

  6. Yes! Essential that we add SPIRITUAL to that list. Entirely spiritual, entirely children of light, where human history has never cast a single shadow on. us or anyone.

  7. I have a little collection of “fortune” cookie inspirations. A few I would like
    to share:

    – The future is a blank canvas; paint it as you wish.
    – Faith is knowing there is an ocean when you can only see the stream.
    – Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.
    – Don’t forget to express your love to those who matter most.

I once had gotten a totally Empty cellophane wrapper. LOL No cookie, no
fortune, nothing … just air, so that was Truly a blank slate to fill in whatever I
wished as a fortune. Of course, we know God is in control and nothing is left
to chance or “luck”. How lovely … God is Love.
    Have a great weekend, Everyone. : )

    1. Hi Carol. I love-‘’do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you CAN do’’
So, as Evan says we must Prove what is ours…eternal Life, Love and freedom.
Mary Baker Eddy has made our understanding more tangible.
—Shadows cannot adhere to sunbeams. Trouble cannot affix itself to God’s man.— From an article by Paul stark Seeley.
      Blessed weekend to all❣️

    1. Thank you very much dear J for the link to this very helpful article “What’s the Demonstration?” by Barbara Vining. ♡

Dear Evan, thanks for this topic for the weekend. And I’m very grateful, too for all the enspiring and so loving comments which I do read thoroughly! Thank you all, dear SpiritView friends! ♡

    2. J I also thank you very much for this revealing article. The author says there is sometimes misunderstanding about what the demonstration part of a healing actually is. This article has really cleared it up for me and I’m grateful. Will surely ponder it more and read again but already I see a change in thinking.

      1. Yess, dear Rose, I also must read it oncemore. It is such a clearing and wonderfully metaphysical article. It needs another thorough read!

    3. Thank you J. I had this article in my JSHOnline bookmarks but I can’t remember the last time I read it and I really got a lot out of reading it again!!!

  8. Such beautiful and wonderful sharing here! Thank you, All .. J , the lovely
article has such profound messages. The author’s demonstration of seeing
the sun (“symbol of Soul governing man – of Truth, Life and Love” – Mrs. Eddy)
and also her eyes (“spiritual discernment – not material but mental”) awoke
her to the Truth of her being … spiritual.
She wrote, ” We must live as God’s reflection – let our thoughts and actions
be governed by God as we go about our daily actives” and ” …. allow [y]ourself
to be governed by God, as you actually are. This demonstration is the highest
prayer – the prayer of love reflected in Love”. What a treasure Love is !!!
