Gulf oil spill

May 6, 2010 | 5 comments

The massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has millions of people concerned and worried about major and yet to be fully seen damage to the environment and wildlife in that area. From a material point of view, it’s not looking good, to say the least.

We need some heavy duty prayer focused on the crisis. Human effort alone just isn’t going to resolve the monumental challenges facing clean-up crews, scientists, politicians, environmentalists and activists, calculating what to do to minimize damage.

I take heart in knowing that God is a forgiving God. When humans make mistakes, divine mercy is present to reverse the effects of those mistakes and restore harmony.

It’s tempting to spend time pointing fingers, lobbing accusations at guilty parties and getting very upset. But these reactions don’t bring the kind of healing that is needed. More than anything, we need a reign of thoughtful listening, working together, united effort, wise action, and potent action to discern what steps are going to be most helpful. We need to love one another to allow this kind of mutual camaraderie to occur.

I pray for ingenious, creative solutions to appear in the mind of those close to the situation that work!

I find encouragement in this verse from Isaiah, “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.” The spread of oil slicks is an enemy to the health of the ocean and its wildlife. The Lord, or divine power reigning over this universe, is capable of “lifting up a standard,” or bringing into play some type of cure that stops the oil slicks from spreading. I pray that our scientists and engineers hear possible solutions that work and are safe. The one Mind is speaking to every one of them, helping them figure out what to do.

And there are also other ways divine nature can reverse the negative effect that are totally unforeseen by the human mind. God has an infinite arsenal of options to bring to bear on the situation. And one of them works!

There is a solution. We do not have to accept unavoidable and massive damage. We live in a mental world where a change in thought can change outward conditions and restore health. Prayer is what changes thought and allows improvement to occur.

God has a solution to this problem. The one Mind knows it and gives it to us. Divine Love is not helpless in the face of this crisis. Evil is reversible. Oil spills are reversible.

Jesus said faith the size of a mustard seed could move mountains. Well, it can stop oil slicks from spreading too.

I’m with you…let’s pray!

  1. My husband tells me that there was some sort of wind or tide change that has slowed the spill from coming to shore so quickly. Could that possibly be a result of prayers already at work?

  2. Thank you so much. This is refreshing. This gives hope and understanding that God is All. Sometimes one feels so helpless in these disasters. This is only an opportunity to rise up higher and love God more. There IS an answer! Thanks again.

  3. “When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.” I like moving the comma around in this quote:
“When the enemy shall come in, like a flood the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.” Makes me think of Mrs. Eddy’s statement to the effect that “the way to extract error is to pour in truth through floodtides of love.” Not sure of the capitalization there, but will look it up. Along with other “flowing” and “currents” references.

  4. Pray signs and wonders, that all involved wonder in amazement that the spill contracts instead of expands, because accidents are unknown to Divine Mind. Pray they ask, “Where is it going? until they finally ask “Where did it go?” Pray also that Spirit reveals to them the answer to these questions.
