A friend was lamenting to me that he had retired from a career of decades and hadn’t found a purpose to replace it with. He felt listless, without direction. And coincidentally, his health started to decline.
As I was thinking through what to say, I realized that we need to have a strong sense of direction in our life. If we don’t, mortal mind is liable to set one for us, and it might not be in our best interest. Like my friend experiencing declining health.
Christ Jesus has laid out a very clear direction for us to follow. “Follow me,” (Matt. 16:24) he commanded, and he meant right to heaven.
Heaven is not a place we die in to. It’s a state of Mind we demonstrate here and now.
To enter heaven, we need to part with sin, part with any negativity, triumph over fear, and live at-one with God in Spirit. This is not done in a day. It requires, vigilance, diligence, persistence, and perseverance. It’s a full-time job! To follow Jesus successfully gives us a very strong sense of direction. It keeps us on the straight and narrow way. It keeps us occupied with worthwhile activity. It keeps us healthy and happy.
Be sure to have a strong and clear sense of direction—a spiritual sense of direction! It will serve you well.
This is me Evan. Retirement has been difficult.
My purpose is now 100% to follow Jesus.
As Mary Baker Eddy writes in Miscellaneous Writings p.118: ‘Be of good cheer; the warfare with one’s self is grand; it gives one plenty of employment, and the divine Principle worketh with you…’.
I will follow this as closely as I can now, and be as awake and mindful as I can to continually bring this to mind.
Love this PW, thank you! ❤️
“This is not done in a day “…
A very encouraging reminder.
Thanks again Evan.
Oh, and the opportunities to express Mindfulness will appear and inspire and lead and fulfill you! God already has a plan for you! Listen and follow.
With Love.

MY 165:18 I am able to impart truth, health and happiness and this is my rock of salvation and reason for living.
I mourned for a long time the best times in my past business life. But through the study of Christian Science I am learniing that life and goodness are immortal. To be grateful for all the good times and to now understand what it means to put off the old and put on the new. And that I will only ever have one job and that is to be about my Father’s business. Also each successive stage of experience unfolds new views of divine goodness and love. Goodness and mercy are before me. love to all.
Love this md! I can totally relate!! So loved my job!!!❤️
Thank you for reminding me of this passage from My. I believe it ends “reason for existing”. And thanks Evan for the daily manna of inspiration!
With fewer demands on one’s time, retirement can certainly give opportunity for more time with our pastor, time for deeper study of CS. Reason and revelation can lead to unforeseen ways that God can put us to work, to demonstrate the truths we learn and to understand our usefulness and purpose never ends. There is always more to be unfolded as we rise higher and higher from that boundless basis and learn to express our Godgiven unlimited capacities.
❤️❤️
