How prayer saved me

December 18, 2019 | 21 comments

In my early twenties, while working on the family farm one summer, I had a terrible accident with a deadly pesticide. I share in this video how I prayed during that chemical exposure and what happened as a result.

This vlog was filmed last September when Kathy and I were making our way home by road from Alaska. It’s part of my series on the healing benefits of Christian Science.

  1. Beautiful story and scenery, Thanks Evan I really needed this today. I really appreciate Spiritview , a wonderful way to start the day

  2. Thank you so much Evan for posting this. I’m so grateful for all that God helps us with. That he is always there for us. …with God all things are possible,
    Working on something that I know will be healed as I am God’s perfect daughter,.

  3. Thank you Evan, such a wonderful healing. I stood in awe before that gorgeous healing of you already when you brought that healing to us during a lecture which I had the privilege to see and hear on YouTube. Am so grateful for all your lectures I could watch, thank you Evan.
    Yes, so comfortng we learn in Christian Science that God is our Life, and that this Life is totally spiritual with not a bit of matter in it. And therefore all things, all good is possible with God, as we read at least twice in our this weeks lesson sermon. Healings of all sorts we need are possible with our loving Father-Mother God. Am very grateful for Evan`s blessing blog and that God guided me to Christian Science, already in joung years to Sundayschool!

  4. I too remember you telling this before. It has always inspired me, and it does again today. I am working at quietly understanding God’s total power over everhing in my life today, and this is helping me on my way!

  5. Evan,
    Thank you for sharing your testimony.
    If applying this to the general population in combatting DuPont’s poison story or Monsanto’s poison story, or any other story of poison in the world, would we start first with seeing God’s perfection and then see man/woman/life as only reflecting that perfection? Only God as cause and therefore only a good effect? One Mind that is good and therefore no mortal minds to invent poison? Were you so concentrated on God and the good and health that you reflect that you didn’t take your eyes/thought off God when tempted with material cause or material story? Mortal mind’s story or stories/claims were not convincing since there is only one Mind that is good? One Mind that is omnipotent, omnipresent and you “know” that to be the truth?
    And, claiming it is not your own mortal mind that is creating the good story of God’s creation but seeing all creation as reflecting the good of the one Mind?
    Do we need to understand truth for healing to take place or are we understanding that no healing needs to take place because we have never been separated from that truth to start with? That mortal story is not our story and cannot for a moment become our creation story?
    Am I on the right track for applying this to everyone?

  6. Thank you, Evan. I had a similar experience but it involved me looking into a battery that exploded in my face being only a foot away while I was looking into the cells for the water level. When I took off the cell cover a nearby spark caused the vapor to explode the battery to the level that only the lead isotopes and the bottom of the plastic case were left. Of course the sound of the explosion made my head ring and my face was pelted with small cuts and bruises from the particles of plastic flying around from the explosion. At the time I was using the Christian Science Tenets and would carry a page of them from the quarterly in my upper pocket. I would in these situations refer to the tenets for my aid. The result was I was fine and the next day able to go back to work. My partners in this building project could not believe how I was not hurt more as they all looked at what remained of the battery having witnessed the accident. The law of life is true and Christian Science has much to offer us in the understanding of our spiritual basis for life as being tributary to divine principle of love. Thank you for this most special post and healing example.

    1. Thank you, Evan, for sharing this wonderful healing! It is so uplifting and inspirational!

  7. My son was working for an engineering firm and while spray
    Painting equipment the sprayer broke showering his. Face. His coworkers rushed him to the sink and. Washed his eyes and rushed him to the hospital. He came home later that day and said he just kept saying “the scientific statement of being” all the way.Imet aDoctor on the street the next day or so and he related. To me how “lucky” my son was. The law of God preserved him . He was a teenager working for
    College entrance . This law works .Thanksforall your proofs o f this.

  8. Merry Christmas, Evan. This testimony was so powerful. We are blessed as well as yourself, by reading your blog.

  9. Thanks Evan, Josef and MJ for sharing your experiences of healing. It is always so inspirational to hear how Christian Science and its teachings support any spiritual thoughts we put into practice when challenged in these ways. So grateful for everyone’s sharing on SpiritView daily.

  10. I would also like to thank all for sharing your testimonies of healing giving us all something to rejoiice in. Each and every healing in Christian Science is a cause for rejoicing!

  11. Thank you very much, Evan! ! I recall reading the Sentinel article about your wonderful healing just after I was introduced to Christian Science in the early 1990s. It was very inspiring and your immediate affirmation that “God is my Life” in those first ghastly moments, remained with me and was pivotal in a healing I experienced in 2013.
    I had nodded off while driving out in the country and my car rolled down a steep 30 metre ditch, crashed into a bank at the bottom and the air bag activated. In a daze I remember saying out loud several times : “God is here. God is my Life”. The driver’s door was jammed against the bank, and the passenger door seemed to be locked. I recall just sitting calmly repeating the words and listening. Then the idea came to turn the ignition on….and .for a split second the sight of the smashed windscreen etc and dust from the airbag inches from my face prompted the fear of fire and maybe even an explosion. But I felt sure that God was indeed there and had told me what to do. So I turned the ignition on. The door immediately unlocked. I turned the ignition off and got out and walked up to the road where cars and people had stopped. Some looking down at the car voiced amazement that I was still alive. .
    The Fire Service officer told the 3 Ambulance staff to check an ankle because it would have been wedged in at the impact and most likely fractured. Both my ankles were normal. All the necessary medical checks carried out at the scene showed normal results, which caused some puzzlement. A police officer then showed up and wanted to know about any injuries. There were none. One ambulance lady asked if I did yoga. I said “no”. Then she asked if I did meditations etc etc.. I then asked them if they knew about Christian Science. They all answered “No”. Well, by the time we all said our thanks and goodbyes 20 minutes later, they had heard just a little about this wonderful Science and how living it heals. I know God is being their Life too!
    Needless to say, my car was a “write off” that day, but for me Hymn 64 in the Christian Science hymnal: describes what happened that day when I clung unwaveringly to the powerful truth that “God is my Life”.

    “From sense to Soul my pathway lies before me,
    From mist and shadow into Truth’s clear day;
    The dawn of all things real is breaking o’er me,
    My heart is singing: I have found the way.”

    I reach Mind’s open door, and at its portal
    I know that where I stand is holy ground;
    I feel the calm and joy of things immortal,
    The loveliness of Love is all around.

    The way leads upward and its goal draws nearer,
    Thought soars enraptured, fetterless and free;
    The vision infinite to me grows clearer;
    I touch the fringes of eternity.”

    My heartfelt thanks, Evan, for all your unselfed loving and giving! And thank you all commenters!

  12. Beautiful sharing of experiences, while applying Christian Science to healing, instaneously applying the Truth, Life and Love, freely ours, just as light turns away darkness. A gift I treasure, at this season of celebration of Christ Jesus’ appearing!

  13. “All consciousness is Mind; and Mind is God, — an infinite, and not a finite consciousness. This infinite consciousness is reflected in individual consciousness, or man, whose source is infinite Mind. There is no finite mind, no finite consciousness.” (Un. 24:12-16)

    “All consciousness is Mind; and Mind is God, — an infinite, and not a finite consciousness. This infinite consciousness is reflected in individual consciousness, or man, whose source is infinite Mind. There is no finite mind, no finite consciousness.” (Un. 24:12-16)

    One of my ‘extra-curricular’ activities included the joy of participating in equestrian care and training; and on one particular evening, while riding my young ex-race horse along with others riding quietly in a large indoor arena, the front door rolled back and someone brought in an apparently frightened horse, up on his hind legs. Startled horses and their riders scattered left and right, but my young horse bolted and flew to the far end of the arena where he stopped feet-first at the back wall, tossing me over his head into the wall like a pancake. Soon I re-gained full consciousness on the floor of the arena and realized I’d not been hurt. Someone came and asked if I’d like “someone to put your horse away?” I was already on my feet and said, “no thanks, I’ll be remounting.” This I did without assistance, and my young horse was thoroughly composed and at peace as well. Infinite Mind never loses sight of Its Oneness and Allness.

  14. Thank you Evan for relating your beautiful healing experience. I recently had a wonderful healing while I was flying back from the Midwest. The weather was causing the plane to buck and sway and I began to think in a mortal way when a suggestion of motion sickness popped into my thought. It struck me so funny that I laughed out loud and repeated the healing words “in Him we live and move and have our being”. I’m pleased to say that my thought was so cleansed by the Truth of Christian Science and I had no difficulty the rest of the trip.
    I would also like to thank Josef, Mj, Mimi and Barbara for sharing such blessings of healing. I’d also like to encourage them to write an article for the Christian Science Sentinel.
